Chapter Twenty-Six: The Fight Began

Liu San suffered internal injuries from Yan Xiaoqiang's punch, and was in excruciating pain. He tried to get up, but Yan Xiaoqiang stomped on him. He could only shout with all his might, "It wasn't me who said it, it was Widow Zhang who said it."

Widow Zhang was hiding in the crowd watching the excitement, her face flushed with excitement. She never expected Liu San to suddenly betray her, and immediately shouted:

"Liu San, you coward, it wasn't me who said that, it was your wife who said it. I was just imitating her."

Suddenly, Cuihua rushed out of the yard, grabbed Zhang the widow's hair and started tearing it down hard. Zhang the widow did not expect that Cuihua, the most honest woman in the village, would make a move, and she was so angry that she started to fight back.

Upon seeing this, Xuemei rushed over and struck Zhang the widow on the back with a rolling pin, making Zhang scream in pain.

Cuihua said fiercely, "Widow Zhang, how dare you curse my daughter! I'll beat you to death!" Then she grabbed Widow Zhang's hair again.

Xuemei slammed the rolling pin down again, cursing, "You widow, you stinking widow, you shameless widow! You dare to curse my family? I'll beat you to death!"

Widow Zhang was being relentlessly ripped at by Chen Cuihua in front and beaten repeatedly by Xuemei from behind, she was on the verge of going crazy.

Just then, Liu San's wife, Liu San Niang, rushed over with a shovel and shouted, "Liu San, you and Widow Zhang were sneaking around in the haystack, and when I saw you, you deliberately cursed my sister, didn't you?"

Liu San Niang stopped abruptly, her triangular eyes shifting from Zhang Widow's direction to Liu San's. Liu San and Zhang Widow had indeed crawled through the haystack, and were stunned by Southeast's shout.

The two women's flustered and guilty looks enraged Liu Sanniang, who raised her shovel and struck Zhang the widow on the head, shouting, "How dare you steal my man! You'd better die!"

Xuemei quickly pulled Cuihua away to a distance, admiring Dongnan's cleverness. After all, Liu Sanniang was an unreasonable and brainless simpleton.

No one in the village wanted to associate with Liu Sanniang, because even if you were in the right, Liu Sanniang would force you into being unreasonable.

Just as the shovel was about to hit Widow Zhang's head, a loud shout startled Liu Sanniang. You should know that Liu Sanniang was not afraid of anyone, except the village chief, and she was terrified of him.

Village Chief Ma rushed over, panting, and saw Widow Zhang crouching on the ground with her head in her hands. He breathed a sigh of relief when Liu San Niang's shovel did not come down.

You have to understand that if that shovel hits, Widow Zhang will basically be dead. Although I really want Widow Zhang dead, someone dying in the village I manage would be very bad for me.

Yan Dongnan walked up and called out "Uncle Ma," then told the village chief about Widow Zhang's vicious curse and Liu San's malicious slander.

Most of the villagers in Mushroom Village are kind and simple, and Yan Xiaonan's cuteness is loved by the vast majority of them. The villagers are indignant that such a young child is being cursed and slandered.

They all demanded that the village chief punish the two of them. Suddenly, Liu Sanniang jumped up, pointed at Zhang the widow, and shouted, "Village chief, what about her crawling into the haystack with my husband?"

Village Chief Ma was pondering how to punish the two people when Liu Sanniang's words nearly made him choke. He took a breath and asked, "How do you want to settle this?"

Ma San Niang seriously considered it: "Village chief, this widow Zhang is always flirting with other women, I'm not comfortable with her, and the other women in the village might not be comfortable with her either. Why don't we marry her off to an old bachelor? Then someone will keep an eye on her."

The village chief thought it was a great idea, but the marriage couldn't be arranged; both parties had to agree. Just as he was pondering how to bring it up, Widow Zhang snatched a shovel and hit Liu San Niang on the head.

This happened so suddenly that blood streamed down Liu Sanniang's head, and then her eyes rolled back and she collapsed to the ground.

Yan Xiaoqiang released Liu San when the village chief rushed over. Liu San saw that his wife had been knocked unconscious by Zhang the widow with a shovel, and he hurriedly crawled over to her.

The village chief acted decisively, sending several men to take Liu Sanniang to the village doctor and several others to tie up Zhang the widow. If anything happened to Liu Sanniang, Zhang the widow would have to eat peanuts.

No one expected that what started as a few people talking nonsense would escalate into a brawl, then a fight over a man, and finally a murder. It was terrifying.

Every household began warning their wives not to spread rumors outside, and the wives also started keeping a close eye on their husbands, afraid they would sneak into the haystacks.

On the second day at noon, Yan Xiaonan finally woke up. Grandma Yan and Cuihua were overjoyed and cried tears of joy, holding Yan Xiaonan and constantly murmuring to each other.

Yan Xiaonan, who had just woken up, was still a little disoriented. However, her memories were quickly triggered by her grandmother's and mother's nagging. She realized that she was still in this era.

Seeing that Yan Xiaonan was awake, Dongnan went up and touched her little hand, smiling as he said, "My little darling is awake. Are you hungry? How about Xuemei makes you some porridge?"

With a soft rumble in his tummy, Yan Xiaoqiang thought, "Alright, no need to answer." He picked up his daughter and kissed her, saying, "You scared Daddy to death, you little rascal."

Southwest wiped away his tears, picked up his fishing rod and bucket, and said to Yan Xiaonan, "Nannan, let's go fishing by the river. I'll catch you a big fish to eat, okay?"

Yan Xiaonan was touched. This family cherished her wholeheartedly, so she had to repay their love for her no matter what.

Thinking of the thousands of kilograms of rice on the mountain, Yan Xiaonan became excited and hugged her grandmother, whispering, "Grandma, rice."

Grandma Yan immediately covered Yan Xiaonan's mouth and whispered in her ear, "My dear, let's not do it anymore, your life is more important."

Yan Xiaonan nodded. This matter is not urgent; it will be easier to handle once they have all left.

Southeast was very good at reading people's expressions. He sent Southwest and North South out fishing, and sent Xuemei to the kitchen to cook porridge for Nannan. He then made an excuse to go and see how Liu Sanniang was doing and went out.

Yan Xiaonan looked around and saw that only his parents and grandmother were at home. He closed his eyes and produced 500 jin of rice.

The entire kang (heated brick bed) was covered with snow-white rice, burying half of Grandma Yan and Yan Xiaonan who were sitting on it. Luckily, Yan Xiaonan was standing, otherwise she would have been buried under the pile of rice.

Grandma Yan was anxious. Xue Mei was still in the kitchen. "Baby, change back first, change back first."

Yan Xiaonan nodded, then closed her eyes again, hid the rice, and left the kang (heated brick bed) spotless, as if nothing had happened.

Yan Xiaoqiang lost his balance and fell to the ground, knocking over a chair and hitting a table with a loud bang. Xuemei rushed out of the kitchen and was very puzzled to see Yan Xiaoqiang sitting on the ground.

Cuihua quickly ran over and helped Yan Xiaoqiang up. She said to Xuemei, "Your father can't even walk properly anymore. He bumped into a chair and fell. It's alright, you can go back to your work."
