Chapter 28 Just bear with it, you deserve it!

Sun Zhou followed.

Gu Zhiyuan stared blankly at the empty doorway for a while.

A short while later, Xu Ningyan turned back, followed by Sun Zhou, who, taking advantage of Xu Ningyan's inability to see, winked and smiled at Gu Zhiyuan.

Xu Ningyan no longer had the blackfish in his hand, but he had a set of half-dry clothes and was carrying the clothes he had changed into yesterday.

Xu Ningyan had already thought it through before she came in.

As the saying goes, time will tell.

Gaining favor with powerful figures takes time and effort.

There's still a long road ahead; the big boss will eventually have to go back to the production team.

Once they got to the production team, it was her domain! Who else could take care of and help the big boss besides her?

Wouldn't that be a perfect highlight of his personal performance?

So what's there to be disappointed about? I'm full of energy!

While hanging Gu Zhiyuan's clothes by the window, she smiled and instructed, "Comrade Gu, I've given the fish to the head chef at the canteen. He can make a soup for it, and Comrade Sun can pick it up later. Blackfish soup is best for wound healing, so remember to drink it! I'm going back to the production team in a bit. Is there anything you want me to tell the brigade leader?"

Seeing that Gu Zhiyuan wasn't worried about his injury, Xu Ningyan guessed that he had informed the brigade leader and asked for leave before coming to the county town, which is why she asked this question.

Gu Zhiyuan thought for a moment and said, "Then please tell the captain that I'm injured and need to ask for a few more days off. I'll go back once I've recovered a bit!"

Xu Ningyan nodded: "Then you can rest assured and recover! I'll go back and talk to the brigade leader. He's a good person and won't hold it against you! It's good that I'm going back sooner. I'll get you some hens from the production team and ask someone to catch some fish. I guarantee you'll have enough nutrition when you get back!"

After saying that, she wrapped herself in her clothes, waved to Gu Zhiyuan, and walked outside.

Sun Zhou didn't rush to follow. He shook his head and sighed, "Sigh, if someone treated me like that, I'd give my life for them! It's just a pity I ran into someone as heartless as you. The poor little girl had to force a smile after being rejected—"

After saying that, Sun Zhou turned and followed him out.

Leaving Gu Zhiyuan alone should have put him in a good mood, since he had at least managed to send Xu Ningyan away.

But Sun Zhou's last words left Gu Zhiyuan feeling uneasy and uncomfortable.

After Sun Zhou left, he sat up abruptly and began to reflect on himself, thinking, "I deserve to die!"

She's just a young girl! Why couldn't you have been more tactful? Or wait until no one was around to talk to her clearly? Why did you have to say it in front of strangers? The girl is easily embarrassed; heaven knows how uncomfortable she must have felt.

Sun Zhou escorted Xu Ningyan to the station, bought her a ticket, and then, seeing it was almost lunchtime, left for a while while Xu Ningyan waited for her train to depart. When she returned, she was carrying a large bag of things and handed it to Xu Ningyan: "Thank you for saving Old Gu. Here's some food for the journey. Old Gu may seem cold on the outside, but he's kind on the inside. He only said those things for your own good! Comrade Xu, you'll understand later!"

Xu Ningyan blinked, not quite understanding: "Comrade Sun, I know Comrade Gu is a good person! I understand now, no need for later!"

Sun Zhou: "..."

He didn't say anything.

With a wry smile, he watched the bus take Xu Ningyan away.

Only then did he return to the hospital.

Just as the IV drip finished, the nurse removed the needle.

Sun Zhou helped Gu Zhiyuan to the restroom, put him on the bed, and then hurriedly went to the cafeteria to get food and brought back the fish soup.

Without any hesitation, she scooped a portion from her lunchbox and took a bite, then couldn't help but exclaim, "That little girl was right! The fish soup made according to her method is indeed not fishy at all, it's so delicious!"

Turning her head, she saw Gu Zhiyuan staring at her expressionlessly. Only then did she realize what was happening and quickly filled a lunchbox for Gu Zhiyuan as well, making sure to put the fish head in it: "Eat the fish head, it's good for your brain!"

Gu Zhiyuan snorted coldly: "I think you're the one who needs brain-boosting treatment! Get me some water to wash my hands first!"

Sun Zhou muttered, "What a bad habit!"

She finally put down her chopsticks, went to fetch water, and brought back a towel for Gu Zhiyuan to wipe his hands.

He did a quick, perfunctory job and called it a day.

Gu Zhiyuan felt it wasn't clean enough, unlike last night when Xu Ningyan had carefully wiped his fingers, palms, and every single finger...

I can't think about it anymore!

Gu Zhiyuan had a dark expression. He wanted to drink the soup, but the bowl was full and difficult to hold.

Sun Zhou was oblivious to the situation and only cared about eating.

Those who knew him would think he came to the hospital to take care of himself, but those who didn't would think he came to the hospital to freeload off patients!

Gu Zhiyuan felt a tightness in his chest ever since Xu Ningyan left, and the tighter the tightness became, the more uncomfortable he felt.

It was better to rely on myself than on Sun Zhou, so I asked Sun Zhou to set up a simple table for me, just like Xu Ningyan had done yesterday, and to bring the food up. Finally, I got to eat.

Sun Zhou went to return the earthenware pot and wash the lunchbox. When he came back, Gu Zhiyuan felt that the room smelled bad and asked him to open the window to let some air out.

As Sun Zhou opened the window, he rolled his eyes and said, "You're such a troublemaker!"

As soon as he sat down, Gu Zhiyuan asked Sun Zhou to bring him a lunchbox of boiled water to cool down so he could drink it when he was thirsty in the afternoon.

As soon as the water cooled down, Gu Zhiyuan frowned, looking at the oil floating in the lunchbox and smelling the faint fishy odor: "The lunchbox isn't clean!"

Sun Zhou: I've never been so speechless in my entire life!

I couldn't help but complain: "Who's this picky when they're hospitalized? With you being so demanding, who can take care of you?"

Gu Zhiyuan sneered: "You're sloppy yourself but you look down on others? You always say you're a sophisticated city person, but you're not even as good as a country bumpkin!"

Sun Zhou jumped up and down: "Who is it? How am I inferior to those country bumpkins?"

Seeing Gu Zhiyuan's cold smile and silence, he understood.

He slammed the lunchbox on the table and sneered, "You must be Comrade Xu? Too bad, didn't you send Comrade Xu back to the production team? Now it's just me, this roughneck, all you can do is put up with it! Serves you right!"

Gu Zhiyuan's face darkened.

Meanwhile, Xu Ningyan was carrying a large bag of things that Sun Zhou had bought, but she couldn't open it to see what was inside on the way.

We arrived at the commune, swaying and staggering, and after getting off the bus, we found a secluded spot.

When I opened it, wow!

Inside, there is a pound of White Rabbit milk candy, a pound of steamed egg cake, a pound of glutinous rice strips, a pound of biscuits, a bag of brown sugar, a bag of white sugar, and two white sugar flatbreads!

I don't know where Sun Zhou got it from.

The sugar-coated flatbread had been sitting in the bag for half a day and had become soggy, unlike the crispy ones that were fresh out of the oven.

Xu Ningyan simply put it back, planning to bake it on the stove when she got home that evening for dinner.

As for lunch, after checking that no one was around, I secretly retrieved a self-heating rice dish from my spatial storage and ate it. Only when the sun wasn't so strong did I slowly walk towards the Unity Brigade.

They didn't encounter many people on the way. It wasn't until they reached the outside of the production team that Xu Ningyan took out the things stored in her spatial storage and carried them on her back.

A cast iron pot, a spatula, and miscellaneous oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and other condiments are all placed in a basket.

Upon entering the production team, it was almost time to finish work. Just as they reached the fork in the road, they encountered several teenagers, the same ones who had tried to bully Gu Zhiyuan last time and had been rebuffed by Xu Ningyan.
