Chapter 30 It takes only a mouth to spread rumors

As the sun began to set, the lush forests behind the mountain gradually darkened.

Xu Ningyan wiped the sweat from her forehead, knowing she couldn't go any further into the mountains, otherwise it would be very dangerous once it got dark.

Just as I was hesitating whether to go down the mountain, I heard a rustling sound from the bushes next to me, as if there was something there.

Xu Ningyan took two steps back, looking warily at the bushes.

Then he saw the lackey emerge from the bushes with half of his head covered in scabs of blood, wagging his tail at him.

Xu Ningyan's eyes welled up with tears, and she grinned, waving at the lackey: "Lackey, it's so good that you're still alive!"

The lackey slowly walked to Xu Ningyan's side, making low whimpering sounds.

Xu Ningyan squatted down and tentatively reached out to check the henchman's injuries: "Don't be afraid, lie down and let me check your injuries, okay?"

The lackey first hid back, then stood still, looking at Xu Ningyan with watery eyes, and obediently lay down, its tail patting the ground intermittently.

Xu Ningyan was certain that the lackey had allowed her to touch it.

After carefully examining the wound for a while, I found that the lackey's head was broken, but thankfully the bleeding had stopped.

There were still more or less wounds on his body, and it was unclear whether he was scratched in the mountains or injured by the Xu family. In any case, Xu Ningyan attributed them all to the Xu family.

Seeing that the lackey was alright, Xu Ningyan breathed a sigh of relief.

He took out two boiled eggs from his storage space, peeled them, fed them to the dog's henchman, and then led it down the mountain via a shortcut.

By the time we got back to the cabin, it was almost dark.

Xu Ningyan opened the door, gestured for the lackey to go in, and then closed the door.

She had to clean and bandage the dog's wounds to prevent infection.

They then rummaged through the space and found candles, scissors, saline solution, iodine, gauze, and cotton swabs.

Light a candle and, by its light, trim away the clumps of fur that had formed around the dog's wound, then rinse the wound clean with saline solution.

Finally, iodine was applied, and then gauze was wrapped around it.

Throughout the entire process, the lackey was very docile. Even when Xu Ningyan was cutting his fur with scissors and he whimpered softly in pain while rinsing his wounds, he didn't move an inch, nor did he bite back.

After the wound was bandaged, it wagged its tail and circled around Xu Ningyan.

Xu Ningyan smiled and patted its back, "Thank you for guarding the gate for me. You'll get a big bone as a reward tonight!"

After tidying up the house, she saw that it was already completely dark and there was no time to cook. She was too tired after a long day and didn't want to cook.

Since there were no outsiders around, I simply took two big bones from my spatial storage and tossed them to the side for the lackey to gnaw on.

I ate two steaks, drank a bowl of white fungus soup, washed up quickly, and fell asleep on the bed.

I slept until the afternoon, only to be woken up by the barking of the lackey.

When I opened my eyes, I saw the lackey warily staring at the door, letting out a low whimper from his throat.

Then someone knocked on the door: "Aunt Siya, are you home?"

It was the voice of Tiezhu, the grandson of the brigade leader.

Xu Ningyan wondered why he had come. Did the captain have something to ask her?

He called out loudly, "I'm home, wait a minute!"

After saying that, he got up and opened the door. When he looked outside, the sun was already in the west; it was already afternoon.

She overslept and missed work?

The door opened, but Tiezhu didn't come in. He stood at the door and called out, "Aunt Siya, my grandfather asked me to tell you that you shouldn't go to work for the next couple of days. Just tidy up the yard and rest for a couple of days—"

Xu Ningyan was taken aback. The brigade leader and others would not even approve the leave requests of commune members on ordinary days, so why would they take the initiative to let her rest?

After Tie Zhu finished speaking, he turned and ran away.

He hurriedly called out to him, "Tiezhu, don't go yet! Come on, explain yourself clearly, and I'll give you candy!"

He pulled a White Rabbit milk candy from his pocket and waved it at Tie Zhu.

Tie Zhu's eyes lit up, and his little feet, which had already run out of the yard, quickly scurried back.

"Aunt Si Ya, what kind of candy is this?"

Xu Ningyan gave Tie Zhu a wolfish smile: "This is White Rabbit milk candy, only city people eat it, it's much tastier than fruit candy!"

Tie Zhu's saliva dripped down the corner of his mouth as he tiptoed to grab the candy.

Xu Ningyan raised her hand so that Tie Zhu couldn't reach it, and said with a smile, "If you want candy, answer a few questions first!"

Tie Zhu's eyes and head were glued to Tang. "Aunt Siya, what do you want to ask?"

"Why did your grandfather suddenly stop me from going to work? Did something happen?"

Tie Zhu hurriedly replied, "I know that. It's all over the brigade. They say that you, Aunt Siya, eloped with Comrade Gu from the cowshed, but your parents saw you in the county town. They beat Comrade Gu so badly that he had to be hospitalized! Comrade Gu got angry after being beaten and didn't want you anymore, so you came back with your tail between your legs, Aunt Siya!"

"Now everyone's saying that you've ruined your reputation, that you're a slut even the 'Five Black Categories' wouldn't want! If that 'Five Black Categories' doesn't marry you, you'll never be able to get married! Nobody will want you!"

“Some people are saying they’re going to hold a denunciation meeting to criticize you! Saying you have improper conduct or something? My grandpa and grandma say you’re innocent, but everyone’s talking about you now. If you go to work, you’ll be drowned in spittle! So they’re telling you not to go to work for the next couple of days! To avoid someone getting killed!”

"And I also told you not to go out these next couple of days, and to be more alert when you sleep at night!"

Xu Ningyan immediately recognized that this was probably the work of the Xu family.

Even though she had severed ties with the Xu family, in the eyes of outsiders, she was still known as the fourth daughter of the Xu family.

These kinds of rumors passed down among family members are considered undeniable facts by the villagers.

Otherwise, who would go around spreading rumors about their daughter having an affair? How shameful!

As the saying goes, it takes only a mouth to spread rumors, but it takes a lot of legwork to refute them!

Especially matters between men and women, which are often difficult to explain.

People in the countryside don't have much entertainment throughout the year, so what they love to hear most is gossip about men and women's love affairs.

In the original owner's memory, there were many tragedies in the surrounding villages caused by such rumors.

So the team leader was afraid that she might do something rash and cause a death, which is why he told her not to go to work.

But if she doesn't go to work, those people will probably think she's ashamed and embarrassed.

Of course, if she went to work, she would be greeted with the spittle of the gossipy women in the village.

If she were just an ordinary, lonely little girl who had been separated from her family, she would probably be completely lost and at a loss right now, not knowing what to do.

But Xu Ningyan wasn't afraid; these rumors meant nothing to her.

She was only worried that if the big boss came back and heard the people in the production team talking about her and his erotic rumors, he would definitely be angry!

If he misunderstands and thinks I have designs on him, I'm doomed!

We need to find a way to stop this damn pornography before the big boss comes back!

While pondering to himself, he smiled and thanked Tie Zhu, saying, "Okay, I understand! Please thank the captain for me when you get back!"

He grabbed another piece of candy and handed it to Tiezhu, watching him skip away. He glanced at the cowshed and saw Gu Zhiyuan pushing open the door and slowly walking out.

Hearing the commotion, he turned his head to look over—

Xu Ningyan's eyes widened: When did he come back?
