Chapter 444 Extremely Ironic

The room was quickly emptied, leaving nothing behind except for a few pieces of furniture that the logistics department had provided.

Fang Dani went back into the room one last time to check, making sure nothing was left behind. She walked to the door without turning back and said, "Don't blame me for not reminding you, you're being sent down to the countryside tomorrow! Stop being so sentimental now, get ready to pack your things. Don't wait until you're sent down and find yourself with nothing! You'll be freezing or starving to death then, and that'll be your own fault!"

After saying that, he slammed the door shut.

Gu Yong heard the sound of a car starting outside and the voices gradually fading away. He remained motionless, as if petrified.

The room was eerily quiet.

It took Gu Yong a long time to raise his head; it was already dark.

The room was pitch black.

Gu Yong fumbled around for a while before turning on the light.

He hadn't eaten all day and found his way to the kitchen.

The kitchen was ransacked, not even a single bowl or chopstick was left.

I could only drink a couple of mouthfuls of cold water from the tap to sober up a bit.

The huge house was usually busiest at this time of year, with children's laughter and play so loud it could practically lift the roof off, and steaming hot meals laid out, with the whole family gathered around the table...

But at this moment, he was all alone in the empty room.

Gu Yong forced himself to stay awake and went upstairs.

Passing through the second floor, I saw that the doors to every room were open, the place was in a mess, and there were discarded papers and scraps of cloth on the floor.

Gu Yong closed his eyes and continued walking uphill.

The third floor wasn't much better.

When Jiang Yuan and the others left, most of their belongings had already been moved away, and their rooms were occupied by their grandsons.

The only closed doors were to the study and his bedroom.

These two rooms were always locked, so they escaped unharmed.

With trembling hands, Gu Yong used his key to open the bedroom door.

The inside is still neat and tidy, just as it was before he left.

Although he later got his marriage certificate with Fang Dani, he always felt that this room was the last place for him and Jiang Yuan, and he didn't want Fang Dani to get involved.

Therefore, no one is allowed to enter this room except himself.

Jiang Yuan moved out that day, having packed up most of her belongings, but she left behind a few unwanted clothes and small personal items.

Gu Yong carefully tidied them up and placed them in a conspicuous place. Every day when he came back, he would touch them, as if Jiang Yuan had never left.

He held Jiang Yuan's clothes tightly in his arms, as if holding onto the last bit of warmth.

I don't know when he fell asleep, but I woke up in the middle of the night feeling cold.

After waking up from the cold, he lay in bed for a while before fully waking up.

He recalled Fang Dani's last words, which, though unpleasant to hear, served as a reminder.

In the middle of the night, he began packing his things.

Over the years, at least he hasn't forgotten the skills he used to pack a pack.

After sorting through the items, I packed the most essential things: a set of bedding, a thick cotton-padded jacket and trousers, a sweater and long trousers, and a change of clothes. I also packed one of Jiang Yuan's clothes. That made up a whole bag.

These things are inconspicuous, neither new nor old.

Gu Yong estimated that since he would be sent down tomorrow, these things would probably have to be checked again before he could receive them, so he didn't dare to pack too much or too good stuff.

After tidying up his things, he went to the study next door.

After a sad glance around the study, Gu Yong quickly composed himself.

The safe was opened.

He didn't touch the documents in the safe, but pulled out an envelope from the bottom.

When the family divided the property, he used all those items to buy things for the family, and gave the rest to his two brothers, Gu Dajun and Gu Daikui.

He hadn't taken the envelope off in the first place.

Upon opening the envelope, I found a thick stack of ten-yuan notes inside; I counted them, and there were seven or eight hundred yuan.

He haphazardly stuffed it back in and put it in his pocket.

Then he closed the safe.

After getting up and rummaging through the bookshelf for a while, he took out a book from the back. The book had been hollowed out, and inside was a savings book.

Upon opening it, the amount on it was over three thousand yuan, along with two small yellow croakers.

All of this was accumulated by him over the years, and no one knew about it except himself.

Looking at the passbook, the money, and the two small yellow croakers, Gu Yong gave a bitter smile.

He didn't tell anyone about these things; they were his private savings, his retirement funds.

He had initially planned to secretly save a sum of money so that he and Jiang Yuan could take care of each other in their old age, without relying on anyone else.

When the family divided the property, he kept a backup plan, thinking that he would find an opportunity to secretly give it to Jiang Yuan and Zhiyuan when they were less angry. It would be a small token of his appreciation, and he wouldn't really leave them with nothing.

On the way back, he hesitated for a long time, but then changed his mind.

Considering that Jiang Yuan and Zhiyuan are not short of money, and their whole family is even more in need of money, it's likely that Jiang Yuan and Zhiyuan wouldn't care about this.

He still left the money to his parents and Da Kui.

I never expected this! I never expected to get such a blow as soon as I got home!

Now, the money is safe, but the family is broken up!

Holding this pile of things, Gu Yong felt extremely ironic.

However, he quickly regained his composure. Having survived a hail of bullets, even though he had been betrayed by his son, wife, and parents, he had now recovered.

Since they are so heartless, there's no need for me to think about them anymore.

I've been sent to the countryside anyway, and I don't even know if I'll make it back alive.

The people I feel most sorry for in this life are Jiang Yuan and her three children. Fortunately, these things didn't go to those ungrateful bastards like Da Kui. It's better to leave them to Jiang Yuan and her children, which can be considered as returning to the original purpose.

These things can't be censored, so we need to find a way to do it.

Gu Yong grabbed these things, went back to his bedroom, and tinkered with them until dawn before finally opening the door.

He had taken a shower, changed into a clean and tidy green shirt and green military pants, and shaved his beard. Apart from looking a little haggard, he had regained some of his former appearance.

Everything was packed up; the bedding was rolled into backpack rolls, there was a duffel bag and a small duffel bag, and nothing else was touched.

Carrying my things downstairs, I sat quietly in a chair, waiting for the troops to arrive.

The hands of my watch pointed to eight o'clock.

There was a knock on the door.

Gu Yong straightened his expression, stood up, strode to the door, and opened it.

The sunlight shone in, making it a little dazzling for a moment.

Gu Yong squinted and waited a while before he could see who it was.

Leading the group was an old acquaintance from the military, accompanied by personnel from the security department; all of them had serious expressions.

Gu Yong nodded calmly: "You're here, come in!"

They moved aside.

Without exchanging any pleasantries, everyone stepped into the house. Just as Gu Yong was about to turn around, his gaze fell on the last person to enter.

The two familiar figures were immediately stunned.

The familiar face at the front patted Gu Yong on the shoulder: "Zhiyuan called us yesterday and was waiting at the gate of the compound this morning to see you off! You and your son can have a chat!"
