Chapter 485 Benefiting from Your Wife

Xu Ningyan's face flushed red instantly, and she stammered, "It's still early! How about we have some tea, have a heart-to-heart talk, and do a couple of math problems to calm down?"

Jiang Zhiyuan sneered, "If I stay calm any longer, people will start to doubt my abilities again!"

"You can't do it?" Xu Ningyan exclaimed in surprise, then belatedly realized that Jiang Zhiyuan's face had darkened even more.

She gave a fawning smile, trying to change the subject: "Well, who doubted your stamina? Mom?" she asked tentatively.

Seeing Jiang Zhiyuan's expression, she knew she had guessed correctly and couldn't help but burst out laughing.

This is truly her mother; no wonder Jiang Zhiyuan's face looked so grim.

Cough cough, she didn't want to laugh, but she couldn't help it!

She had only laughed twice when she felt a tightness around her waist, and suddenly she was lifted into the air. After a dizzying moment, she was placed on the bed.

Then a burning hot body pressed down on me...

The next day, Xu Ningyan woke up to find herself alone, the room empty.

The spot where Jiang Zhiyuan had been lying was still slightly warm, suggesting that he had been up for a while.

It was quiet outside, and Xu Ningyan turned over and got up.

Her clothes were placed neatly folded and on a chair beside the bed.

They took them, put them on one by one, and came out.

A small pot of millet porridge was warming on the stove, with two boiled eggs and a small dish of pickled vegetables next to it.

Xu Ningyan opened the door to the main room and discovered that it had snowed outside sometime during the day, and the ground was covered in white.

The lackey darted out of the kitchen and ran into the main room, wagging his tail at Xu Ningyan.

After Xu Ningyan finished washing up, she sat down at the table to eat. She peeled an egg, gave one yolk to the dog's henchman, and then slowly drank the warm millet porridge while admiring the snow scene outside through the window.

The courtyard gate creaked open, and Jiang Zhiyuan walked in wearing a hat and covered in snowflakes, carrying some things in his hands.

After putting the things in the kitchen, they went into the main room.

As soon as you enter the room, a chill hits you.

Jiang Zhiyuan stood at the door, brushed the snow off his clothes, took off his hat and came in. He first checked Xu Ningyan's complexion and found that she looked fine, so he was immediately relieved.

I think I bullied the little girl too much last night; she's about to turn on me.

Today, things seemed fine again, so Jiang Zhiyuan didn't dare to ask any more questions.

If Xu Ningyan knew what Jiang Zhiyuan was thinking, she would definitely complain, "Can you really take what's said in bed seriously?"

He simply asked Jiang Zhiyuan, "What did you go to buy so early in the morning?"

Jiang Zhiyuan warmed his hands on the stove as he answered, "I went to visit Old Master Yu today, and I went out to buy some things; it wouldn't be right to go empty-handed!"

After saying that, he added a joke: "After all, this is our first visit after we got married. We should bring some gifts. Grandpa Yu should give us a proper greeting gift because of the gifts."

Although he resisted having Master Yu take his pulse, he still had to visit him in person.

Xu Ningyan thought for a moment and then said, "Since this is my first visit, I have some medicinal herbs sent from the Northwest Military Region. Would you like me to take some over to Grandpa Yu?"

Jiang Zhiyuan shook his head: "Those things are a token of our father's friendship. Keep them, you never know when you might need them! As long as Grandpa Yu asks, he can get any kind of medicinal herb! There's no need for such formalities between our two families! If you really want to send them, we can cut a piece of mutton and bring some winter pears over, just to show our appreciation."

Their interactions with Mr. Yu were naturally facilitated by his financial and logistical support.

Whether those little things of the little girl are valuable or not is debatable, and they represent different things. It's better to leave them to the little girl as a keepsake.

Xu Ningyan also knew that with Old Master Yu's wealth and status, he had countless good medicinal herbs in his possession, and he really didn't care about the ones sent by the Northwest Military Region.

She went inside to change into her outdoor clothes.

Jiang Zhiyuan went to get a knife and cut off a leg from the remaining half of the sheep, along with most of its rump, and put it in a snakeskin bag.

Then he went to the kitchen, found a basket, and filled it with seven or eight more pears. Adding that to the gifts he bought that morning, it was quite a lot.

Xu Ningyan changed into a brand new women's military green cotton-padded jacket and trousers, wore black sheepskin boots, a Lei Feng hat, and a scarf tightly wrapped around her neck, completely covering her eyes.

Jiang Zhiyuan was very satisfied with Xu Ningyan's attire. He then found a pair of thick cotton gloves in the house and put them on Xu Ningyan before taking out the bicycle, packing all the gifts into a net bag, and hanging it on the front handlebars.

Jiang Zhiyuan, being tall and long-legged, plopped down on the car seat, one foot on the pedal and the other firmly on the ground for support, gesturing for Xu Ningyan to get on the car.

Xu Ningyan appeased the lackey, secretly slipped him a braised egg, and then locked the courtyard gate.

Only when he turned around and got on the bike did he realize that Jiang Zhiyuan had tied a thick cotton pad to the back of the bicycle at some point.

With this cushion, my butt won't hurt anymore when I sit in the back seat.

After breakfast, the snowfall lessened considerably.

Xu Ningyan sat in the back, while Jiang Zhiyuan, wrapped in a military overcoat, stood in front, his broad shoulders shielding him from most of the cold wind and snow.

After rushing all the way, we finally arrived at Mr. Yu's home before noon.

The pharmacy where Old Master Yu is staying is unusually quiet today.

After all, although we haven't celebrated the Spring Festival for several years, the first month of the lunar calendar isn't over yet, and most ordinary people won't be going to see a doctor.

Several doctors on duty were so bored they started chatting idly.

One of the doctors on duty today was the same apprentice whom Master Yu had brought to the hospital to detoxify Xu Ningyan. His eyes lit up when he saw the two of them, and he led them to the back.

We led them to the house where Old Master Yu usually lived. Old Master Yu was quite old, but he had white hair and a youthful face. In the middle of the Lunar New Year, he was still testing his youngest grand-apprentice.

The young apprentice was so confused and anxious from the test that his eyes welled up with tears, but he dared not cry out loud.

Upon seeing Xu Ningyan and his wife, they reacted as if they had seen saviors: "Grandpa, I'll go back and carry it right now! I'll go first—"

After saying that, he slipped away and ran off, and we couldn't stop him no matter how much we called.

Jiang Zhiyuan led Xu Ningyan to pay their respects to Grandpa Yu and presented the prepared gifts.

As expected, none of the gifts Jiang Zhiyuan bought at the department store early in the morning caught Old Master Yu's eye.

However, Grandpa Yu nodded in satisfaction at the basket of Dongguo pears and the large piece of mutton.

He had a plate of winter pears cut up and brought over. He took a bite and nodded, "This is the taste! I had it once in Gansu Province and I've been craving it ever since!"

He looked at the mutton again and gave a thumbs up: "Good mutton! Judging from the color of the meat, it must be Tan sheep, right? It's hard to find authentic Tan sheep meat these days. Was this sent from the Northwest Military Region? We're lucky to have your wife today. We'll have this for lunch."

The young apprentice accepted the order and went down to instruct the kitchen.

Xu Ningyan and Jiang Zhiyuan bowed to Grandpa Yu.

Grandpa Yu accepted the greeting, took out a gift he had prepared beforehand from the shelf next to him, and tossed it to Xu Ningyan.

Then he gestured for Xu Ningyan to extend her hand so he could take her pulse.
