Chapter 516 Some are happy, some are sad

Jiang Zhiyuan suddenly felt a little scared and inferior.

Even though he knew Xu Ningyan wouldn't despise him, that they had a child and a family, and that he would cherish her for the rest of his life.

But in the end, she felt guilty, thinking that she had too little to offer that was worthy of Xu Ningyan now.

But getting him to let go is absolutely impossible!

The only person he ever truly loved, cherished, and held dear in his heart, his wife and the mother of his children!

Unless he closes his eyes in this lifetime, no one can take her away from him!

Jiang Zhiyuan bit his cheek, his eyes filled with ruthlessness.

Jiang Zhiyuan finally made it to the end of the workday and rushed home.

I ran into my subordinate downstairs and wanted to report something, but he just waved me off, saying, "We'll talk about it tomorrow!"

After saying that, he went downstairs, got into his car, and drove away.

The subordinate blinked and asked, "Boss, what's the emergency? You seem to be in a real hurry."

Sun Zhou strolled over slowly. "What do you know? The eldest brother got a call from home saying his wife got into Peking University! The eldest brother's ability to wait until after get off work to go home is already impressive! If it were me, even if my wife got into a junior college, I'd rush back home like a madman—"

The people around Sun Zhou laughed, "Come on! We don't know if your wife is going to take the college entrance exam, but I have some freshly baked sweet potatoes here, do you want some?"

"Yes! Of course I want it!"

...

Jiang Zhiyuan was the last person to arrive home.

The whole family was dressed and waiting for him. When he came in, they all stared at him.

Even someone as composed as Jiang Zhiyuan couldn't help but pause and look at everyone with suspicion.

Jiang Zhixing jumped up first: "Brother's back! We can set off now!"

"Where to?" Jiang Zhiyuan was completely confused.

"My sister-in-law got into Peking University! Mom said she's treating the whole family to Peking duck tonight! Hurry, hurry, or they'll all be gone!"

Jiang Zhixing was about to push Jiang Zhiyuan out the door.

Jiang Zhiyuan shook off his hand and went into the room, where he saw the admission notice on the table.

After calming myself down, I stepped forward and opened the acceptance letter, and couldn't help but smile.

She lovingly touched the admission notice, reluctantly putting it down. Unable to contain her excitement, she hugged one of the two boys, gave him a big kiss, and proudly said, "Son, Mom is amazing, isn't she?"

Jiang Chen giggled as he was kissed; the two little brothers can now say simple single or double words.

Although she didn't quite understand what her father was saying, she only heard him say "Mom, you're great!" and she clapped her little hands enthusiastically and echoed, "Mom, you're great!"

Jiang Zhan, not to be outdone, chimed in, "Great!"

Everyone laughed, and after Jiang Zhiyuan changed his coat, they happily headed to the roast duck restaurant.

Two days later, Jiang Zhixing received his admission notice from the School of International Relations at Renmin University of China.

After receiving his admission notice, Jiang Zhixing, who was usually cheerful, burst into tears while holding the notice.

It took her a while to realize what was happening, and she hurriedly tried to wipe away her tears, but the more she tried, the more tears she wiped away.

Xu Ningyan and the others smiled understandingly and stepped back, allowing him to calmly compose himself.

After waiting for quite a while, Jiang Zhixing finally came out with red eyes.

He thought everyone would laugh at him, but he was greeted with a sweet surprise from his two nephews, one of them hugging one of his legs, one calling him "uncle" and the other saying "great!"

Jiang Zhixing's slight embarrassment immediately vanished.

He then insisted that Jiang Yuan treat them to a meal.

Jiang Yuan didn't discriminate, so she took the whole family to eat at Lao Mo.

Mei was terrified. She had heard of this Old Mo restaurant before; it was very expensive.

It costs five yuan for one meal!

But he couldn't refuse Jiang Yuan, so he had no choice but to go with her.

When we got back, we felt a bit cheated by spending five yuan! We weren't even full!

Others in the alley also received their college acceptance letters one after another, while some failed the exam.

It's a mixed bag of joy and sorrow!

The Jiang family is naturally the most enviable. Two of their children took the exams, and one was admitted to Peking University and the other to Renmin University of China, both prestigious universities.

Others who received admission notices also...

Having been admitted to university, my previous job naturally came to a halt.

School wouldn't start until March after spring, so Xu Ningyan and Jiang Zhixing didn't have to go to work or go to school yet, which meant they had some rare free time at home.

Jiang Zhixing is a restless person. After staying at home for two days, he started riding his bicycle out early and returning late.

Everyone knows he knows his limits, so they don't bother with him.

Xu Ningyan, on the other hand, received a letter from Jingshan County not long afterward.

On Li Jianguo's side, although his eldest son had the information provided by Xu Ningyan, his foundation was still somewhat lacking, and he barely managed to get into a provincial junior college.

Even so, Li Jianguo's family was overjoyed, because a junior college graduate is a real college student!

Their family must be incredibly lucky to have produced a college graduate.

Li Jianguo and his family were overjoyed and immediately took leave to return to their hometown. They said they were hosting a dinner party, but in reality, they secretly went to pay respects at their ancestral graves.

Lin Hong and Lin Feng both took the college entrance examination. Lin Feng was admitted to a provincial university, which was quite good.

Because of her pregnancy, Lin Hong was exhausted and only managed to get into a junior college teacher training school in the city, but it was perfect for her.

The city is not far from Jingshan County; it takes just over two hours to get there by train.

After graduation, I'll have a very secure job as a teacher at the school, no matter what else I'm looking for.

Zhou's mother, who had been complaining all along, has stopped. It's said that she's planning to retire early, rent a place in the city, and take care of Lin Hong's child after she gives birth.

Of the local high school and junior high school students from the Unity Brigade, only two were admitted to junior colleges and vocational schools.

That's pretty good too.

Three of the educated youth from the Tuanjie Brigade were admitted to universities. Besides Chen Fangfang, there were two other educated youth who were admitted to ordinary, unremarkable universities. However, for them, this was already something to be envied.

In his letter, the brigade leader specifically thanked Xu Ningyan, saying that without the materials she sent back, probably none of them in their brigade would have passed the exam.

It was also said that those educated youth who failed the exam were not discouraged. After realizing they had failed, they studied day and night to prepare for next year's college entrance exam.

Xu Ningyan was naturally pleased; at least the information hadn't been given away for nothing.

However, I still had some doubts in my mind: why didn't Chen Fangfang write a letter to share the good news?

Could something have happened?

After some speculation, he decided to write a letter to the brigade leader to inquire about the situation.

Not long after the letter was sent, with the New Year approaching, Xu Ningyan took her two children and Sister Mei out to buy some New Year's goods. Before they even reached their doorstep, they heard the lackey rushing ahead and barking at the gate of their yard.

Looking up, I saw a familiar figure sitting at the entrance of my own yard.

Who else could it be but Chen Fangfang?
