Chapter 69 Lu's Father Draws a Pie in the Sky

After all, Xu Zhenzhu comes from a good family background, graduated from high school, and is quite pretty. Now her family has arranged a job for her, so strictly speaking, it's not a bad job.

Her family seems to dote on her. Of her second brother's family of four, three are working, so Xu Zhenzhu will need to take care of her family in the future.

Therefore, they were treated with more courtesy towards Xu Yinlai's family.

Shen Yue'e wasn't really sure herself, so she racked her brains to find a topic to talk about with Sun Chunmei.

Fortunately, Sun Chunmei looked serious and unapproachable, but she could still reply with two or three sentences out of ten, so at least the conversation didn't become awkward.

With Xu Yewen and Lu Kai joining in the conversation, the atmosphere in the room became less awkward and stiff.

Xu Jinlai and Xu Baolai were a little unhappy. What did this mean? What was the second brother trying to do? Was he deliberately showing off?

They were eager to compete and show off their abilities.

But I couldn't get a word in edgewise on that topic; I tried to speak several times, but then closed my mouth again.

Xu Yinlai was very perceptive; he noticed his elder brother and younger brother's actions out of the corner of his eye and felt contempt for them.

That's ridiculous. Anyone with a brain would try to maintain harmony, even if brothers are fighting amongst themselves at home.

If we work together to leave a good impression on the Lu family, the chances of my younger sister being with Lu Kai will be much greater.

As long as my younger sister can marry Lu Kai, my family will benefit. We can pretend to be harmonious for a lifetime.

With these thoughts in mind, the conversation gradually veered towards the daily interactions within the Xu family.

He praised the eldest and second wives several times in his conversation, saying that his own wife worked in the county and rarely came home, and that his elderly mother was well taken care of by his eldest and younger brothers.

He also said that the three brothers had always gotten along well, respecting each other and rarely arguing.

The children in the family are all the same; they respect the elderly and love the young, and they feel most sorry for their aunt, Xu Zhenzhu, and so on.

Xu Jinlai and Xu Baolai were surprised that Xu Yinlai would praise them in front of the Lu family.

Although I don't quite understand why Xu Yinlai did this, who doesn't like to hear nice things? It made me feel much better.

In addition, Xu Yinlai would occasionally bring up topics, and gradually he was able to join in the conversation.

The brigade leader and the party secretary were also smart people. They smiled and echoed each other, saying that the three Xu brothers were always amiable and had nothing to say about Xu Zhenzhu. They said that although she was called their sister, they actually treated her like their own child, and the whole family loved her the most.

In any case, they all expressed the same meaning: Xu Zhenzhu was the most favored in the Xu family.

A hint of satisfaction flashed in Lu Xing and Sun Chunmei's eyes; it was clear that Xu Zhenzhu held a high position in the Xu family.

Lu Kai smiled and looked at Xu Zhenzhu. Xu Zhenzhu glared at him playfully, and the two of them huddled together again, whispering to each other about their private matters.

Xu Yinlai saw this scene and wanted to say something.

However, seeing that Mr. and Mrs. Lu did not seem to be dissatisfied, he thought about it and swallowed his words.

The brigade leader and the Party secretary wouldn't mention a single negative thing; their minds were preoccupied with how to ask Lu Xing if they could get a tractor for their brigade.

Having finally managed to steer the conversation to the higher levels, Lu Xing, being the kind of person he was, had already figured out what the brigade leader and the party secretary meant.

Without even thinking, they can practice Tai Chi skillfully.

They said the factory is currently facing heavy workloads, with tractors in short supply and orders booked until next spring.

Moreover, their machinery factory generally only accepts large orders like these; they won't accept small, scattered orders from production teams.

However, we still need to take care of the production brigades under our county.

Their factory has defective products that fail inspection, which don't involve functional issues but only have some appearance problems. These are usually disposed of to the communes below.

If the Unity Brigade doesn't mind, we can give them a quota, with the price lower than the factory price.

However, this situation is rare, and you have to wait, since there are several long queues ahead of you!

It all depends on whether the Unity Brigade can wait! If they can wait, then they'll give them a quota!

The brigade leader and the party secretary were overjoyed and kept saying they could wait! They were extremely grateful to Lu Xing.

Xu Yinlai listened from the side and felt that this scene was very familiar, just like their factory leaders making empty promises to people.

However, he wasn't foolish enough to expose it, as that would offend people.

Moreover, with this pie hanging in the sky, the eldest and third brothers' lives in the brigade will be much easier from now on.

And then there's that brat Si Ya. While the eldest and third brothers are having a good time, hers is having a hard time!

Xu Yinlai was probably the only one in the room who realized that Lu Xing hadn't actually agreed to anything; the prospect of a quota that seemed so far away had made everyone happy.

After all, having a tractor would save a lot of trouble, so who wouldn't be happy?

Both Xu Jinlai and Xu Baolai's families were happy.

The atmosphere in the room reached a climax in an instant.

Fortunately, the food was ready later, and they said it was time to eat.

Although it was only three or four o'clock in the afternoon, the Lu family had eaten and still needed to rush back to the county town, so this was the perfect time.

That meal was incredibly lavish.

Almost the entire team put together a feast: old hen soup, braised duck with young ginger, stewed bighead carp with cabbage and tofu, green peppers and eggs, stewed eel with pickled vegetables, along with braised bamboo shoots with cured pork, stir-fried broad beans with chives, and an egg drop soup.

One table wasn't enough, so they borrowed another table from next door and combined them to form a long table before they could fit everything.

The aroma was so enticing that all the dogs in the village came running and circled outside the door.

Lu Xing and Sun Chunmei sat at the head of the table, with the brigade leader and the party secretary beside them, as well as Lu Kai and Xu Zhenzhu. Miao Cuihua, Xu Jinlai, Xu Yinlai, Xu Baolai, and the driver accompanied them at the bottom.

No one else in the Xu family had a seat, so they could only huddle in the back yard, swallowing their saliva as they smelled the delicious aroma from the front.

The eldest son's two grandsons were too young to understand, and upon smelling the meat, they cried and begged for it.

On ordinary days, I might even shamelessly go to the table and get a couple of pieces of meat for the children to satisfy their cravings.

Even their most loving parents today had stern faces. If they couldn't be coaxed after a couple of words, they would just slap them twice and they would behave.

The wine was brought by Lu Xing and his group; it was Chihe Laojiao, a local wine, bought from the supply and marketing cooperative, and cost four mao a bottle.

The brigade leader and the party secretary had a drink together once when they went to a meeting at the commune. They looked at each other but didn't say anything.

Lu Xing, however, did not drink alcohol, but instead filled the cups for the captain and the others.

After having a cup of tea with the captain and the others instead of wine, they just ate and talked.

Xu Jinlai and Xu Baolai, on the other hand, kept praising the wine after taking a sip.

The captain really wanted to say that this wine was not as good as the wine that Siya had served them at the warm house last time, but he held back.

Because they were distinguished guests, Zhao Guilan and Wan Chunni were the main chefs for the meal, with the other women helping out.

The two women's skills were not as good as Xu Siya's before, but they weren't too bad either.

In addition, these ingredients are all natural and of good quality. Even if the cooking skills are lacking, the quality makes up for it, which is quite acceptable.

Lu Xing and Sun Chunmei were used to the cooking of the chefs in the state-run restaurants, and their stomachs were never lacking in oil and fat, so they couldn't find too many faults.
