Chapter 12 The Qiao Family's House Was Robbed (2/2)

Mother Lu smiled and said, "Yes, those were well said."

"Xiaoju, don't go home. Go to your parents' house and tell them what happened today." Mother Lu squinted.

Wang Xiaoju's mother was a notorious gossip; anything she heard would spread throughout the entire town in less than half a day.

Wang Xiaoju seemed to understand, but not quite.

"I'll go right away."

"Wait a minute." Mother Lu took out five yuan and a snack coupon from her pocket. "Buy two jin of mung bean cakes and take them over."

Wang Xiaoju looked at her mother-in-law with gratitude.

She secretly made up her mind that she must do a good job of what her mother-in-law had asked her to do.

Qiao Family

Liang Xiu and Qiao Shanshan were sobbing in the living room, while two police officers impatiently took their statements.

Qiao Sheng squatted on the ground smoking opium.

"Where the hell have you been? Our house was robbed, do you even know that?" Liang Xiu saw Qiao Wanyue and, with nowhere to vent her anger, unleashed a torrent of abuse on her.

Qiao Wanyue said in surprise, "Mom, my stomach hurt just now, so I went to the outhouse. What happened?" She looked at the police officer in astonishment.

The police officer asked, "Your parents said your house was ransacked. Where did you go this afternoon?"

Qiao Wanyue said, "I was working in the fields this afternoon, and Aunt Taohua stayed by my side the whole time."

What time did you go?

Qiao Wanyue thought for a moment, "After lunch, I'll go around after my parents."

Did you see anything unusual when you left?

Qiao Wanyue shook her head, "No."

The police were in a dilemma. The Qiao family's house was bare, with nothing but plaster on the walls and not even a trace of urine. Moreover, even if it were a robbery, there should have been footprints in the afternoon, but the Qiao family's house was spotless, without a single feather.

The police officer looked at Liang Xiu suspiciously, "Are you sure your home was robbed?"

It wasn't that he had doubts, but rather that everything was so clean and transparent.

It seems more like a pre-arranged transfer.

Liang Xiu fainted three times from crying.

When she returned home, she saw that the people in the bedroom had gone mad, and the house had been completely emptied overnight, leaving her not even a needle.

"Officer, you must catch the murderer." Liang Xiu placed all her hopes on the police.

The police officers exchanged a glance, both seeing helplessness in each other's eyes.

They've been working for quite a while now, and they've seen people lose money, lose their dignity, lose their children, even lose their underwear, but they've never seen an entire family disappear overnight—that's just too outrageous.

They had no choice but to record the data first and then measure it, before going back to develop a research plan.

After seeing the police off, Qiao Sheng squatted in the yard and smoked.

His stomach rumbled, and he wanted to ask Qiao Wanyue to cook, but looking at the truly bare walls of his home, he swallowed the words that were stuck in his throat.

"Wanyue, go to Aunt Taohua's house and borrow a pot and flour. Come back and cook something." Qiao Sheng said wearily, taking out a crumpled one-yuan coin from his pocket. "Buy something and fill your stomach first when you get back."

Qiao Wanyue clutched the money and left in silence.

She bought some cornbread and cabbage from Aunt Peach Blossom's house and came back carrying a large basin. Even the pots, pans, and chopsticks were borrowed.

After the meal, Qiao Wanyue returned the bowl and chopsticks.

The Qiao family squatted in the courtyard, sighing deeply.

Those damned bandits didn't even leave them a blanket.

In the June evening, a warm breeze caressed my face.

The Qiao family, however, could not be happy at all.
