Lu Rong paused, his hand still holding the pancake, and looked at her with a puzzled expression.
She whispered in her ear, "Children's digestive systems aren't fully developed yet; they can't eat these pancakes."
She lowered her voice, but the person on the other end still heard her.
The woman across from me said, "Auntie, thank you for your kindness, but everyone has their difficulties. Our children aren't hungry."
Whether it was a coincidence or not, the words were spoken in an instant.
The child started crying loudly.
Qiao Wanyue frowned.
The girl held the little boy in her arms. The little boy was wearing a leather jacket and imported shoes. Although he was crying with his mouth open, his eyes were fixed on Lu Rong's hand. He would lick his lips from time to time, which made him look so pitiful.
Lu Rong felt a pang of tenderness, thinking that her child used to eat everything, so eating a little bit of pancakes wouldn't be a problem.
But the daughter-in-law must have her reasons.
Qiao Wanyue said, "Sister-in-law, why don't you ask your husband to find the train conductor? There are children on the train too. Ask the conductor if there's anything to eat. The children are too young. We've never raised children before, so we don't know what they eat."
This was a polite way of refusing to give them food.
The woman's face immediately fell.
She looked at Qiao Wanyue with displeasure.
Qiao Wanyue ignored her gaze completely, took the bag from Lu Rong's hand and stuffed it into the corner.
Even the crying baby froze.
They never expected Qiao Wanyue to be so ruthless.
"Brother, if you can't speak, you can hold the child and let your wife talk to the train conductor." She kindly tugged at the corners of her mouth, looking at the man with a smile. The man was slightly taken aback, his gaze somewhat intense.
The woman, unwilling to accept defeat, stomped hard on the man's foot.
"Awooo!"
The man yelled and gesticulated wildly, his eyes filled with dissatisfaction towards the woman.
The woman glared at Qiao Wanyue and slapped the child across the face without saying a word. "All you do is cry! You've cried away all my good luck. If you cry again, I'll beat you to death."
The little boy's eyes were red from crying, and his face was slapped several times. The harder he cried, the harder the woman hit him. After three slaps, the little boy's face was swollen, and he looked at Qiao Wanyue with a pitiful expression.
His eyes were full of resentment.
Qiao Wanyue: ?
Blame her?
She couldn't bear it either, and looking at the little boy's face, she felt a little guilty. After all, she knew perfectly well where the woman's resentment came from.
A sense of doubt arose in her heart. The woman didn't seem to be an educated woman at all, and the little boy was fair-skinned and very perceptive. He wouldn't have cried unless he was extremely hungry.
Unlike children raised by such a volatile woman.
She shouted, "Train conductor, there are children here who have been hungry for three days and three nights!"
This sound had a significant impact. The woman in the slanted seat pulled out a crumbly piece of sponge cake from her bosom. It was clear that she had been hiding it for a long time, and carefully handed it to the boy's mother.
"We can make the adults suffer, but we can't let the children suffer."
"Auntie, thank you. Unlike some people, you're so cruel." The woman cursed indirectly, but Qiao Wanyue pretended not to hear, closed her eyes, and leaned back to squint. The woman then pulled the auntie close and spoke to her affectionately for a while.
The boy ate half a piece of sponge cake, then snuggled into the woman's arms and fell asleep.
