Chapter 173 Guilty Feelings (2/2)

"I didn't pay," Lu Rong said in a muffled voice.

Qiao Wanyue remained silent, staring intently at her.

Lu Rong felt very guilty. "You were busy at the team headquarters, and he asked someone in the village to pass on a message to me, telling me to pay the medical expenses, or I would be kicked out of the hospital. I kicked the person who passed on the message out." She didn't give any money.

"So, what do you want to say?" Qiao Wanyue laughed in exasperation.

Should we praise her for being a good child for not giving money?

Lu Rong stammered and couldn't say a word.

She lowered her head like a bullied little wife.

"Mom is just worried that it will affect your and your older brother's reputation."

Qiao Wanyue rolled her eyes.

I didn't expose her.

"Let's go to the hospital to pick up my sister-in-law first. We can talk about it when we get back." Qiao Wanyue planned to have Boss Lu talk to her. After all, the aggrieved party was Boss Lu's family. If he couldn't figure things out either, then she would have to consider starting her own business.

Qiao Wanyue borrowed the team's oxcart for a day for 50 cents. Her sister-in-law was still not fully recovered and would be exposed to the wind if she rode a bicycle back and forth. So she took a quilt and put it on the oxcart, then wrapped it around her when they got back.

When she arrived at the hospital, Brother Lu had already packed up, completed the discharge procedures, packed all his luggage, and dressed Sister-in-law in thick clothes, a hat, and a scarf.

Sister-in-law Lu's health had improved somewhat, but her face was still pale and she walked with a shaky gait. Perhaps because of her strong desire to go home, she was in good spirits.

They helped Sister-in-law Lu onto the oxcart and placed the bottles and jars beside her.

Lu Rong and Lu Yunqi were also in the car, sitting in the corner one in front of the other.

Old Uncle Yang was driving the cart. He raised his whip, and the oxen obediently moved forward.

"Brother, if you encounter bumpy spots, get off and push the cart."

"Um"

After she finished speaking, she turned around and looked for her bicycle, without a smile on her face, and didn't even glance at Lu Rong.

Lu Yunqi found it strange. His mother and sister-in-law usually had a good relationship, but today they didn't exchange a single word. Moreover, his sister-in-law seemed angry, and his mother seemed quite guilty.

He wanted to ask his mother and siblings what had happened.

My sister-in-law is a reasonable person, unless my mother is confused and won't listen to my advice.

Otherwise, her sister-in-law wouldn't have given her such a cold shoulder in public.

He opened his mouth, then looked up and saw Uncle Yang, who was driving the cart, trying to make conversation with Lu Rong. He stopped talking, thinking that family matters should be discussed at home.

"Uncle Yang, please take your time," Lu Yunqi said, worried about his wife.

"Don't worry, I, Old Yang, have been driving carts for twenty years. I won't let your wife suffer any bumps." Uncle Yang said with a smile.

The road from the county town to Xiahe Village is bumpy in a few places, but Uncle Yang is a very skilled driver. When there are bumps or uphill sections, he will ask Lu Yunqi to come up and push the cart, trying his best to keep Sister-in-law Lu from moving.

Sister-in-law Lu arrived home safely.

"Big brother, the room is all ready for you. Xiao Hui brought out the blankets and bedding to air them out. The little guy was overjoyed to know you were back." Qiao Wanyue opened the door.

The oxcart stopped at the door. Lu Yunqi picked up his wife, and Qiao Wanyue walked over in a few steps to open the door to their room. As soon as they entered, they were greeted by a warm and cozy atmosphere, and the room was spotless.

"Thank you, sister-in-law."

He knew in his heart that his sister-in-law had specifically mentioned Xiao Hui, but how much the little guy could do was definitely still what his sister-in-law and mother did.

"Go in first."

Lu Yunqi placed his wife on the bed. Lu's wife hadn't experienced much bumping along the way and was in good spirits.

Qiao Wanyue went to the kitchen and boiled a bowl of egg and brown sugar water, then brought it to their room.

Lu Rong gave Uncle Yang a dollar for travel expenses, which Uncle Yang couldn't refuse, so he happily accepted and left.

"Big brother, the captain is lenient. You can rest at home today and go to work tomorrow." Qiao Wanyue said and walked out.

Lu Rong walked in, carrying a can of malted milk powder. As the two entered and exited, Lu Rong opened her mouth as if to say something, but Qiao Wanyue didn't give her a chance and turned to leave.

Qiao Wanyue walked into the kitchen with a blank expression.

"Mom, what's wrong with you and your sister-in-law?" Lu Yunqi closed the door.

He is a straightforward person.

Lu Rong pursed his lips, "Your sister-in-law is so disappointed in you."

Sister-in-law Lu thought she was angry with Qiao Wanyue. "Mom, your sister-in-law is a good person. If you have something to say, just tell her directly. She won't take it to heart."

Lu Yunqi did not understand Qiao Wanyue.

But he understood Lu Rong.

"Mom, is it related to Yang Lin?" His face suddenly darkened.
