Chapter 35 Toasting (2/2)

However, some villagers who were getting impatient sat down at the Lu family's banquet table instead of the Yang family's, filling all eight tables. When others asked for extra chairs, Lu Rong accepted them all without hesitation.

She prepared four large bowls, each filled with meat, mostly fatty meat. These days, it's not easy for any family to afford meat, and since it's a rare occasion for her family to host a feast, she bought meat in abundance and let everyone eat as much as they wanted.

She was happy that her second son got married.

The villagers used to say that her Lu family line had died out, but she was determined to make everyone see her Lu family prosper!

"Wanyue, thank goodness you let me prepare more, otherwise the little I prepared wouldn't be enough." Lu Rong looked at his daughter-in-law gratefully.

She's a person who cares about her reputation her whole life; she'd rather not steam buns than lose face.

She wanted others to see that she, Lu Rong, could also support the Lu family.

She wanted to prove her parents, who had died young, right!

Qiao Wanyue knew her mother-in-law's thoughts and naturally fulfilled her wish.

A person lives for their reputation, just as a tree lives for its bark.

"Mom, you will be a happy old lady."

Lu Rong smiled broadly, like a Maitreya Buddha, holding her daughter-in-law's hand, "Mom will be a happy old lady."

Qiao Wanyue glanced at the next room; the noise was still going on.

Lu Rong pulled Qiao Wanyue and started toasting at each table, introducing her to everyone. Originally, it should have been Lu Yunzhou, but he wasn't there, so Lu Rong had to stand in for his son. Qiao Wanyue was sweet-talking, and Lu Rong led her to the elders, making her call them whatever they wanted, and she downed her drink in one gulp.

Some people even tried to make things difficult for her, but the young woman was so cheerful that those who had been egging her on to drink more didn't dare to speak up, afraid of losing to her and embarrassing themselves.

Finally, Lu Rongcai allowed Qiao Wanyue to come to the Lu family relatives' place.

“Wanyue, this is your uncle.” Lu Rong pointed to a middle-aged man, the son of Lu Rong’s father’s brother, who had helped her, an orphan, a lot over the years.

Qiao Wanyue knew that he was sincere towards the Lu family, so she spoke with some sincerity as well, "Hello, Uncle."

The man happily accepted Qiao Wanyue's drink and downed it in one gulp.

He looked at Qiao Wanyue with satisfaction. He had been there when the incident happened. He couldn't interfere in the matter between the Yang and Lu families, but the way this new daughter-in-law handled it was completely to protect his sister. He accepted this new daughter-in-law.

"Wanyue, visit our home more often when you have time."

Qiao Wanyue knew that he was satisfied with her.

She nodded. "Okay, I will."

Lu Rong happily paraded through the streets with her daughter-in-law, wanting to tell everyone that Qiao Wanyue was her daughter-in-law, Yunzhou's wife. But after the two finished toasting, Lu Rong took Qiao Wanyue to eat.

"Lu Rong, is she disrespecting her father-in-law?" someone said.

Lu Rong frowned.

"Pockmarked guy, even eating meat can't shut you up." The speaker was the village's notorious leper, but Yang Lin was on good terms with him.

Yang Lin tilted his head back, clearly waiting for Qiao Wanyue to offer him a toast.

Qiao Wanyue laughed in exasperation.

As a member of the Lu family, not only did he not help her save face, but he also helped outsiders bully her.

What was he thinking?

Qiao Wanyue certainly wouldn't go along with Yang Lin. She took a bowl from the table and walked directly to Yang Lin. "Father-in-law, Yunzhou isn't here either. I don't know any etiquette. If I've been disrespectful to you in any way, please forgive me. I'll toast you."

She poured two large bowls of wine, filling them to the brim.

"Please, Father-in-law." She smiled and picked up the large bowl, taking a sip.

Yang Lin forced a calm expression and said, "As your daughter-in-law, shouldn't you do it first? I'll just do whatever."

"Yang Lin, you can't even outdrink a young lady. What kind of head of the family are you? You're just all show and no substance."
