Chapter 4 Showdown (1/2)

Qiao Shanshan refused.

She wants to go to university and become an intellectual. Cooking is a menial job that an uneducated woman like Qiao Wanyue should do, but she has already angered her mother and doesn't dare to confront her directly.

He pulled Yang Huaiyuan into the kitchen.

Of course, she couldn't bear to let Yang Huaiyuan do it. Her eyes darted around a few times, and then she smashed the pots and pans with a loud bang under Yang Huaiyuan's puzzled gaze.

Qiao Wanyue returned to her room, turned around, closed the door, and locked the bolt. The room was a storage room made of thatch and mud. She used to live in the living room of the main room, but later, when she got older, her mother let her live here.

She locked the door and drew the curtains made of tattered cloth. She sat on the bed. The room was full of farm tools, with only a one-meter-wide wooden board in the corner and a basket with a few faded clothes on the bedside table.

The air was filled with the smell of dead rats, and you could hear rats digging holes from time to time.

Qiao Wanyue tightened her grip on the large coin. She looked around the room; the earthen walls had holes of all sizes, and there were messy farm tools. This wasn't a place to keep money. Her mother had ransacked the room.

No place can escape her eyes; there's simply no place where money can be stored.

After a moment's thought, Qiao Wanyue realized that the most dangerous place was also the safest place. She knew every part of the Qiao family home very well, and the safest place for money was still in her mother's room.

There was a small, secret box in Qiao's mother's room that she rarely opened. She had seen it before when she was cleaning the room and put the money in there temporarily, planning to deposit it in the county town the next day.

Having made her plans, Qiao Wanyue took out a cloth bag, which she had made from Qiao Shanshan's old clothes. It was a rectangular bag that could be tied around her body. She tied the bag around her waist and covered it with her coat.

Qiao Wanyue didn't come out of the kitchen even after falling for a long time.

Then came the sound of Qiao Shanshan cursing.

Every time it was Qiao Shanshan's turn to cook, she would make a huge racket, and Qiao Wanyue would feel sorry for her sister and take her portion to cook herself.

Over time, Qiao Shanshan got used to her efforts, and the Qiao family took it for granted that she was the one who did all the cooking and laundry at home.

Qiao Wanyue pretended not to hear, plugged her ears with cotton, and lay on the bed pondering what to do next.

Qiao Shanshan and Yang Huaiyuan have already obtained their marriage certificate. To protect Qiao Shanshan's reputation, Qiao's mother will surely tell the outside world that she coveted her sister's husband and seduced Lu Yunzhou to get the certificate first, leaving Qiao Shanshan with no choice but to marry Yang Huaiyuan.

The Qiao family will also protect Qiao Shanshan's reputation.

There's another tough battle ahead.

Although she didn't care about Lu Yunzhou's reputation, there were still two years until the 1977 college entrance examination. She didn't have a letter of introduction or a job, and she needed to live in the village until the exam. Her reputation couldn't be ruined.

Qiao Wanyue still plans to take the college entrance exam. In her previous life, she was blind and only attended primary school for three years. Her mother made her drop out of school because the family was poor. Ironically, Qiao Shanshan and the two Qiao brothers all graduated from high school without any problems.

The eldest son of the Qiao family even went to university.

In her past life, she was ridiculed by the Yang family for being uneducated. Yang Huaiyuan would often use her illiteracy as a pretext to insult her.

A persistent look flashed in her eyes.

She is determined to go to university in her lifetime.

There are still two years until the college entrance examination. She had inquired in her previous life that the first year of the college entrance examination was open to all, regardless of identity or educational background. Anyone could participate. She had read the books in her spare time in her previous life. Although she had never officially taken the college entrance examination, she would try again if she failed in one year.

You'll pass the exam eventually.

When she opened her eyes again, they were clear and bright.

In this life, she will definitely live well.

Live life to the fullest.

"Have a meal."

The door was pounded on loudly.
