Chapter 40 Delivering Meals (1/2)

"I am your father-in-law, how dare you question me?" Yang Lin started putting on airs again, acting like a father-in-law.

Actually, it was his mother's idea. Old Mrs. Yang was unhappy that Qiao Shanshan didn't have a dowry. She secretly went to the Qiao family to inquire and found out that Liang Xiu treated Qiao Wanyue very badly. How could she possibly prepare a dowry for her? She felt that Qiao Wanyue had stolen Qiao Shanshan's dowry.

He was told to return the dowry. Yang Lin felt it was wrong to steal someone else's dowry, so he sent the dowry chest to the Yang family. When Old Lady Yang saw that there was nothing in the chest, she led a group of people to storm the door.

She believed that Qiao Wanyue had deliberately taken the things ahead of time. As for the Qiao family being robbed, she didn't believe it at all. This wasn't the old society anymore; how could there still be bandits? It was just an excuse for the Qiao family not to give Qiao Wanyue her dowry.

Qiao Wanyue looked at her father-in-law, who was both unreasonable and arrogant, and scoffed, "Father-in-law, I don't have a father-in-law who would send his daughter-in-law's dowry to someone else's family."

Lu Rong's face darkened, and his brows furrowed.

"Wanyue, what did you say?"

Qiao Wanyue said, "I just went to my uncle's house, and my aunt told me that her son saw that it was his father who secretly delivered the box to the Yang family."

"Yang Lin, I'll fight you to the death!" Lu Rong pounced on Yang Lin and started fighting.

Sister-in-law Lu was afraid that her mother-in-law would be taken advantage of, so she wanted to help, but Qiao Wanyue pulled her away.

They even thoughtfully closed the door to the main room.

"Wanyue, why are you pulling me? Mom will suffer the consequences."

Qiao Wanyue shook her head, "Sister-in-law, Mom won't suffer any losses."

Lu Rong didn't dare to lay a hand on Yang Lin in public, simply to save face for him and prevent his son from being looked down upon by the villagers.

Sure enough, the next second, Yang Lin's painful sobs and Lu Rong's cursing could be heard from inside the room.

"Mom is awesome!" Sister-in-law Lu gave a thumbs up.

Qiao Wanyue looked up at the sky, which was gradually darkening. People in the countryside don't have alarm clocks; they go to sleep and get up by looking at the sky. She patted her sister-in-law's shoulder and said, "Sister-in-law, you've worked hard today. Go and rest."

Sister-in-law Lu nodded, fetched a basin of water, and carried it into her room.

The Lu family is particular about things, and everyone has their own designated washbasin. Qiao Lu's mother prepared a large red enamel basin for Qiao Wanyue in advance and placed it at the door of her room.

Wanyue took a basin, filled it with water, and after a quick wash, went inside.

As for Lu Rong and Yang Lin, she didn't bother with them.

Back in her room, Qiao Wanyue turned off the light and stared at the ceiling with wide eyes. She could still smell the fragrance of the new cotton quilt. Lu Rong had prepared good cotton for her, and the thick quilt felt very warm and cozy against her body.

After a while, all the lights in the Lu family's house went out, and Qiao Wanyue used her consciousness to enter the space.

She wandered around the space. The apples and bananas were all ripe, and even the green ones were growing quickly and would ripen in a few days. Qiao Wanyue looked at the food in the space and felt a sense of joy from the harvest.

She picked the ripe fruit, only to find that there was nothing in the space to store it. The Qiao family's baskets were all used up, and she planned to have her eldest brother weave a basket for her. But with nowhere to put it, she gave up on harvesting the fruit.

They simply harvested some vegetables from the ground and put them in the small wooden house.

Then, she went into the cabin and opened the book she had bought at the scrap yard a few days earlier.

In her previous life, although she had briefly attended some classes at night school, reading was still very difficult for her. It took her a lot of effort to solve a few problems and memorize some poems and texts before she felt sleepy.

He closed his textbook, came out of the space, and lay down on the bed.

Then, the sound of wailing and crying came from next door again.

Moonlight streamed through the window into her room, and she could vaguely see the bright lights of the Yang family's house and hear Old Mrs. Yang's loud, stern voice.
