Chapter 41 The Lu Family's Young Wife (1/2)

Qiao Wanyue carried a lunchbox in one hand and held Lu Hui's hand in the other.

Lu Hui was holding a small teapot in his hand. The little guy was still a bit unsteady on his feet, swaying as he walked, but his face was beaming with a smile.

"Grandma, Auntie's cooking today smelled amazing!" He couldn't help but lick his lips, as if he was still savoring the aroma.

Lu Rong was surprised to see his daughter-in-law and grandson.

"Oh, so the little wife's showing off." A sarcastic voice rang out.

Without turning around, I knew it was Yang's mother's voice.

Lu Rong scoffed, "My daughter-in-law dotes on me, unlike some people who are always making a fuss. At the wedding banquet, they cook cabbage for everyone, but on their wedding night, their son isn't there."

The daughter-in-law didn't even have a dowry.

"If you don't have it, you don't have it. You tried to act like a big shot, stealing from others, and now you've gotten yourself arrested."

Yesterday was the Yang family's wedding banquet. Everyone had high expectations for the Yang family, but they fooled everyone. They stewed cabbage and didn't even have tofu, let alone meat. Although things are difficult now, the Lu family's wedding banquet had four large bowls of meat.

Without comparison, there is no sense of disparity. Although it's not said openly, everyone is cursing the Yang family behind their backs.

Yang's mother's face darkened, and she glared at Lu Rong with a sinister look.

"Young lady of the Lu family, what kind of meal did you make for your mother-in-law?" the villagers asked with smiles when they saw Qiao Wanyue.

Lu Hui said in his childish voice, "Auntie, it's cabbage stew with tofu. My second aunt makes it so delicious." The little guy spared no effort in praising his second aunt.

"Ha, I thought it was something special. You dare to bring out cabbage? It's hilarious. Lu family, your mother-in-law wants to eat meat, not vegetables," Yang's mother said sarcastically.

Qiao Wanyue said, "You said I'm from the Lu family. What my mother-in-law wants to eat is none of your business."

She retorted without holding back.

Qiao Wanyue carried the lunchbox to Lu Rong's side. Lu Rong and his wife were together, while Yang Lin was with the Yang family. Qiao Wanyue only glanced at them and thought to herself that she had been careless and had prepared too much.

She deliberately asked, "Mom, are there only three people eating?"

Lu Rong understood perfectly what she meant, but he was too lazy to get angry. "Yes, three people."

Since Yang Laoda passed away, Yang Lin has used the excuse that his sister-in-law's family is not doing well to help Yang's mother and daughter with their work every time he goes to work, which results in him always getting zero work points, while Yang's mother and daughter always get full marks.

Men get ten points a day, women get eight.

Yang Lin always got zero points. Lu Rong had argued and made a fuss, but Yang Lin, as the second son in the family, felt it was only right to help his older brother, given the difficult situation of the Yang family's orphaned mother and son.

Gradually, her heart grew cold.

"Mom, sister-in-law, my brother is ready to eat." Qiao Wanyue lifted the lid.

A strong aroma instantly filled the space. Everyone had been working all morning, and with the sun so strong, they were all starving. As the aroma wafted out, many people grumbled and cursed, complaining that the cook was inconsiderate.

Qiao Wanyue didn't care and directly divided the dishes into three portions. Lu Dage's portion was larger, and he did more work. He took on most of the work, and after finishing his own, he also helped his mother and wife.

"Thank you, sister-in-law." Brother Lu couldn't suppress his smile when he saw the bowl full of meat and tofu.

Sister-in-law Lu also received a large bowlful.

Neither of them were polite; they took the large bowls, accepted the flatbreads their son handed them, and started eating, enjoying the delicious flavor so much they almost bit their tongues off.

Lu Rong, on the other hand, was more elegant. She picked up the pancake soaked in soup, broke it apart, and put it in a bowl. She said to Qiao Wanyue, "There's some left here. Take it to your uncle." Her uncle was naturally Lu Mantang's family.

The son of Lu Rong's father's brother took good care of their family.

Qiao Wanyue nodded. Lu Mantang's family wasn't large; his wife had given birth to two sons, neither of whom were married yet.

"Wanyue, you can eat it yourselves, why did you send it to my house?" When Aunt Qiao saw the bowl of meat that Qiao Wanyue was carrying, she was very worried. Every family has a hard life, and this young woman was being too generous.

Qiao Wanyue glanced at Yang Lin next door. The Yang family had made white flour today, but Yang Lin didn't get any. He looked at it longingly, but Yang's mother didn't seem to care about giving him any. Instead, she said sarcastically, "Second son, your wife is unfilial. It's one thing to be filial, but she doesn't know how to be filial to her father-in-law."

Lu Mantang frowned.
