Qiu Yulan shook off his hand. She looked at Xie Yiran with no affection in her eyes. "We've agreed to marry our own spouses and have nothing to do with each other. So, are you going to give up Su Wenxia and remarry me?"
Her questioning tone startled Xie Yiran.
Qiu Yulan would never have spoken to him like this before; she would only lower her head and acquiesce.
She actually contradicted herself.
Xie Yiran had no idea where this idea came from.
His inexplicable anger.
Before he could speak, Aunt Xie rushed over.
"Get out of here."
"Don't embarrass yourself here, Yulan, Suiyu, come with me." Aunt Xie pulled them directly to a corner.
She looked at Xie Yiran with disappointment, "What exactly do you want to do?"
Xie Yiran said, "I'm afraid Yulan will get hurt."
Aunt Xie laughed in exasperation, "Are you afraid that Yulan will get hurt, or that she will find someone better than you and that makes you unhappy, or that Yulan has changed and you want to marry Su Wenxia but can't bear to part with your ex-wife?"
"Xie Yiran, I don't care what you think. When I asked you whether you wanted a divorce or not, you chose divorce. Once you signed the divorce agreement, you had no other choice. Since you chose Su Wenxia, then live a good life with her."
Xie Yiran was somewhat bewildered by the scolding.
He didn't know what was wrong with him. Ever since Yulan came, Wenxia had hardly ever given him a kind look. She even secretly went on blind dates. He was furious and tried to stop her, but Su Wenxia questioned him about his right to stop her from going on blind dates.
He pressured Qiu Yulan to divorce him during the Lunar New Year.
Liu Wang and Cuihua weren't the only ones to get divorced during the Chinese New Year.
And then there's him and Qiu Yulan.
But he didn't expect Qiu Yulan to find another job so quickly.
He knew Sui Yu. He was an orphan. His wife used to work in a cultural troupe, but she passed away from an illness. He never remarried. He started looking for a partner three years after his wife's death, but he was said to have high standards and hadn't found anyone yet.
How could Sui Yu possibly be interested in Qiu Yulan, a country bumpkin? Although he was an orphan, he had no children, was decent-looking, and earned a good salary. He just couldn't understand why he would be interested in Qiu Yulan.
I'm definitely going to lie to her.
Xie Yiran spoke his mind, having expected his own mother to object.
The result was a slap across the face.
"fraud?"
"I don't know if he's a liar, but I can tell you're regretting it."
“Since you’ve chosen to divorce and don’t like Su Wenxia, go find other women. Don’t come and ruin Yulan’s life. Since you despise her from the bottom of your heart, don’t interfere in her affairs. With me here, there’s no need for you, her ex-husband, to worry about her.”
"Xie Yiran, you're not doing this for her sake. You think Yulan is uncultured, can't sing or dance, and doesn't know how to charm people. How could someone like Sui Yu possibly be interested in Qiu Yulan? Let me tell you, not everyone is as foolish as you."
“Yulan is uneducated and a bit timid, but she listens to advice, knows how to change, and is perceptive. She is a master of everything, inside and out. She washes your son’s clothes clean no matter how dirty they are, and she keeps the stove and pans spotless. When I come home from get off work, I’m never hungry, and there’s always a light waiting for me at home.”
“She can make clothes for department stores herself, she can hoe the ground and grow vegetables. Apart from her education, she is a hundred times better than you.”
"You only see her lack of education, but others see her strengths."
"Don't embarrass me here, get out of here."
He kicked Xie Yiran away.
Xie Yiran was unwilling, but seeing his mother's anger, he dared not provoke her any further.
He left with the comment, "She'll regret it later."
She stormed off in a huff.
Aunt Xie didn't get involved in the young people's affairs. She apologized on Xie Yiran's behalf and then left.
Sui Yu looked at Qiu Yulan with gentle eyes.
Qiu Yulan looked rather unwell. She had always known that Xie Yiran looked down on her, and he would say the same things over and over again. She had long since stopped caring, but hearing him say such things in front of outsiders still made her feel really sad.
The couple had been married for ten years, and although they spent most of their time apart, they endured so many hardships in the countryside by relying on their hopes and dreams.
Magnolia.
Sui Yu called out to her.
Qiu Yulan was somewhat stunned. "Xie Yiran is right. You are not as cultured as those intellectuals."
