Chapter 8 The Lu Family Comes to the Door (2/2)

Qiao Wanyue didn't have to wait long before the Zhou family sent money.

Qiao Wanyue put the money in her pocket, but actually she put it in her spatial storage. Qiao's mother had been watching her from the shadows until she saw her put the money in her pocket. Then she decided to sneak the money over that night.

After this incident, no one dared to provoke Qiao Wanyue again.

Qiao Wanyue carried a hoe and weeded in the fields, but she only managed to remove three weeds in the entire afternoon.

Aunt Peach Blossom was chatting enthusiastically with the people around her, and in less than an afternoon, the news of Qiao Shanshan and Yang Huaiyuan's marriage had spread to the neighboring Xiahe Village.

When she finished work, Qiao's mother felt that the people around her were looking at her strangely. She was the wife of the brigade leader, and these people usually looked at her with respect, but today it was inexplicably strange.

She didn't pay much attention.

When I got home, the sky fell.

Qiao Wanyue had a very relaxing afternoon. As the hard-working ox of the Qiao family, she worked her way up every day just so that her mother would praise her for being able to be the pillar of the family.

When she slowed down, she realized how easy it was not to work.

Qiao Wanyue returned to the team headquarters. The scorekeeper wrote down the three points in the notebook, looked up and glanced at it several times until he confirmed that it was Qiao Wanyue.

His eyes looked as if he'd been struck by lightning; had the Qiao family's old workhorse gone on strike?

The scorekeeper was a young educated youth who came here in the 1970s. He later married a villager. He was kind-hearted and had advised Qiao Wanyue to take care of her health and not to work like a workhorse all day long, because she would suffer from overwork when she got older.

But every time Qiao Wanyue listened to her mother's words, her mother would praise her, saying that she was the pillar of the family, that she had to work hard both at home and outside, and that she worked even harder.

She wouldn't listen after being told several times, so the scorekeeper gave up.

This time, she actually refused to do any work.

Qiao Wanyue took out three large white milk candies from her pocket, which she had scavenged from Qiao Shanshan's room, and stuffed them into the scorekeeper's pocket. "Sister Qingqing, take these back to the children."

Not many people are kind to her, but Sister Qingqing is one of them.

Qingqing glanced down at the White Rabbit candy and frowned. "Go back and eat it yourself."

"I have."

After saying that, Qiao Wanyue slipped away.

Qingqing sighed and changed Qiao Wanyue's score from three to five.

After returning the tools, Qiao Wanyue shuffled home at a snail's pace.

Before they even reached their doorstep, they heard the deafening shouts of Qiao's mother, Liang Xiu.

"That damned bastard emptied my house!" Liang Xiu's wailing and crying could not be stopped.

"Liang Xiu, let me tell you, if you don't give me an explanation today, I'll go to the village committee and accuse your family of marriage fraud." It was Lu's mother's voice.

Qiao Wanyue quickened her pace, humming a little tune.

I mentally gave Aunt Peach Blossom a thumbs up.

As expected of Aunt Peach Blossom, the little gossip.

The Lu family arrived very quickly.

As Qiao Wanyue entered, the Lu family members stood menacingly in the Qiao family compound. Apart from a few trees, even the washbasins on the ground were gone; the place looked like it had been robbed.

Liang Xiu felt dizzy again and again.

Qiao Shanshan's head was pressed to the ground by Lu's eldest sister-in-law, who was still holding a knife in her hand. No one dared to approach her.

The eldest brother of the Lu family, holding a club, had already knocked Qiao Xingjia, the second son of the Qiao family, to the ground, who had just returned from his mother-in-law's house.

The Lu family members arrived in a menacing manner.

Lu's mother put her hands on her hips and kicked Qiao's mother.

"Liang Xiu, my second son, the 800 yuan dowry was given to you half a year ago, and the wedding is in three days. Now you're telling me that your Shanshan has already married the Yang family boy? Isn't this a slap in the face to my Lu family?"

I don't care if you were robbed or not. If you don't give me justice today, we'll go to the police station, and I'll even file a complaint in the provincial capital. I want to see if I can get justice then.
