The Nenjiang River, which flows from north to south, makes a bend in the section near Laoshu Village, and the river channel changes to flow from east to west.
This section of the Nenjiang River is already in its lower reaches, and the current is not as strong, but the river channel is still very wide, more than fifty meters wide.
The rudimentary net could only be pulled by people wading through the water, with one end fixed to the shore.
Miao Wang and Wang Junjun took off their shoes and rolled up their trouser legs to test the water temperature. Even with the sun shining brightly overhead, it was still bone-chillingly cold.
But none of that matters when it comes to eating fish!
"You two better stand firm, or you'll be swept away by the water. Once you fall, it'll be hard to get back up."
"I'll go east with your Miao brother to dig a hole."
The two naive young men waded in the water, clinging tightly to the rope, one above the other.
Miao Qingsong rolled up his trousers and waded into the water, following Lin Mo's instructions to scatter bait into the water as he walked.
The gray-skinned creature's flesh and blood had a fishy smell; it was quite unpleasant to smell.
Lin Mo quietly observed the fish, holding a stick. Once he saw any movement from the fish, he went behind it and tapped the water's surface with the stick.
The fish were startled and moved westward.
"Ouch!"
Suddenly, just a few minutes after Miao Qingsong started digging the bait, he felt a sharp pain in his ankle.
Looking down, lo and behold, a long, dark blue, pointed fish, as thick as an arm, was nibbling at his ankle.
This is the first time I've been bitten by a fish, and it actually hurts quite a bit?
Lin Mo arrived at the riverbank at the opportune moment, carrying a stick. The bottom of the river was already covered with dark streaks of all sizes.
"Slap!" "Slap!" "Slap!"
The wooden stick was swung a few times on the water. While one side was still busy working, a burst of excited squeals came from the other side.
"We've got it! We've got it!"
When Miao Wang saw the swarms of dark creatures rushing into the net, he was both excited and panicked. He instinctively tried to catch them all with the net!
However, when one end of the net loosened, more than a dozen sharp-nosed fish took the opportunity to slip through the gap and escape from under the net.
Upon seeing this, Miao Wang and Wang Junjun panicked.
Lin Mo quickly ran back to the two of them, grabbed a bamboo basket from the bank, and waded into the water.
Press the bamboo basket to the bottom of the water, block it from left and right, and then try to lift the bamboo basket out of the water.
This thing is so heavy, one person can't even lift it!
"Qingsong, come and lend a hand."
Without a second thought, Miao Qingsong plunged into the water and, with a powerful shovel, lifted the bamboo basket from the bottom.
As soon as the basket came out of the water, the two simple-minded young men let out a series of excited squeals.
Wow! They're all black spiky!
"That's a huge basketful!"
Lin Mo, an experienced hand, was managing three greenhorns. The greenhorns made a lot of noise and squeals at the slightest movement, making it very difficult for him.
"Stop yelling! Quickly swirl the net around and pull it ashore! Otherwise, all the fish will get away!"
After being scolded, the two hotheads hurriedly obeyed his orders.
When we went into the water, the net was light and sparse, but this time, dragging it ashore felt like it was filled with huge rocks. We had to use all our strength to finally climb ashore, panting heavily.
He was almost completely soaked.
Miao Qingsong excitedly looked back and forth at the basket and net.
After all the water in the basket leaked out, only half a basket of fish remained!
They were all as long and thick as half an arm! There were at least twenty or thirty of them, all black and sharp!
Looking into the net, the two seemed to be clumsily trying to catch fish, but they only managed to catch six fish of the same size.
The fish that came from the internet were tiny, two-finger-long fish; there must have been a hundred or so of them.
"Oh dear, what a pity, all the big fish got away, only these are left..."
Comparing the gains from both sides, the vast difference filled Miao Wang with regret.
"Brother, I'm sorry, we've been dragging you down." He apologized while feeling bad.
Meanwhile, he was also thinking to himself that he couldn't make the same mistake again next time.
So many black scorpions escaped because I tried to move the net to catch them.
"What good are you! You already have someone to guide you! They even taught you step by step! And you still managed to make this mess!"
Miao Qingsong angrily reprimanded his two younger brothers:
"Otherwise, this trip would have netted at least fifty big black spiky bream!"
"Fifty articles!"
"Our Brother Lin can catch more than twenty fish with a net even with a broken bamboo basket! You two idiots! You can't even catch any with a net!"
While scolding him, Lin Mo gathered some dry leaves and branches and started a campfire on the spot.
Soaked to the bone, Miao Wang and A Jun hurriedly gathered around the fire to dry themselves, rubbing their hands and faces to keep warm while being scolded.
Lin Mo patted Miao Qingsong on the shoulder, telling him to stop cursing:
"Alright, practice makes perfect, there's no need to scold like that."
"There are still about thirty left. Once we've done it once, we'll be able to catch even more next time."
Lin Mo wasn't angry, and Miao Qingsong breathed a sigh of relief.
That's because they were afraid Lin Mo would think they were a burden and wouldn't take them next time.
It's good that you're not angry.
Miao Wang and A Jun scratched their heads sheepishly, swallowed their apologies, and then their eyes darted around the little fish:
"If we could get more oil, we could fry these small ones thoroughly, and even fry the bones until they're crispy. That would be delicious too."
Slurp!
Lin Mo glanced at the small fish in the net, then at the two men wiping their drool, and said with a smile:
“No, those are all fish fry. Let them go. We need to catch more fish before winter to store them for the winter. If we eat the small fish, there won’t be any big fish left next year.”
Despite hearing their reasonable words, Miao Wang and A Jun were still somewhat reluctant to part.
