"I'll rebel, so what?"
Lin Mo's firm remark nearly caused Chen Gang's brain to shut down.
Chen Gang was furious, but before he could speak, Lin Mo added:
"Why don't you reflect on why we seem like we're on opposite sides?"
"Is it possible that you're rebelling against everyone in the village?"
The accusations suddenly landed on Chen Gang, leaving him even more bewildered.
Meanwhile, the villagers were anxiously pressing Lin Mo for answers.
"Are you telling the truth? There are nearly 500 people in the village. If each person catches one pound of fish, that's 500 pounds. Can you really catch that many?"
"If you're really not bragging, then we're definitely not going to back down either!"
Xu Zhenting, who was discreetly hiding in the crowd, unexpectedly noticed that the villagers seemed to be leaning towards Lin Mo.
As a sent-down youth, he subconsciously sided with Chen Gang, who represented the county's opinion:
"Utter lies! This is a perverse and evil trend! You dare to echo their nonsense!"
"They're completely disregarding the brigade!"
This attempt at flattery landed squarely on Chen Gang's backside.
But no matter how loudly he yelled, it didn't help.
Miao Qingsong had nothing on his mind but the thought of being able to eat meat every meal:
"Brother Lin wasn't bragging. Yesterday, he caught more than twenty black bream using only a bamboo basket! Each one weighed over three pounds!"
"If we had a good net, Brother Lin could definitely catch even more!"
"Yes, yes!" Miao Wang added hastily.
"And if we can still make so much money even with those greenhorns who are just getting in the way, we can make even more money without them!"
Wang Junjun, savoring the grilled fish he had eaten the night before, smacked his lips and said:
"Black scallops are delicious. They're tender, have few bones, and the flesh is snow-white. They're not fishy at all. Just grill them and sprinkle some salt on them, and they're wonderful."
The villagers were already craving meat, and hearing such a detailed description of its taste made them even happier.
I could no longer contain myself.
"Lin Mo! Go quickly! Let's finish harvesting the wheat today!"
Suddenly, it seemed that Chen Gang was no longer needed in the production team. After the villagers reached a consensus, they each picked up their sickles and went to their assigned fields.
They yelled at each other to get to work quickly and not to slack off.
Wu Fengshou silently moved behind Lin Mo, arched his backside, and nudged Lin Mo's buttocks:
"Still standing there? Go now."
"I'll take care of things in the team."
Wu Fengshou shoved and pushed Lin Mo away, then smiled and hooked up with Chen Gang, whose face was dark and sour, and pulled him toward the supply and marketing cooperative.
"Village chief, you..."
"Oh dear, stop talking, stop talking. We'll see what happens tonight," the village chief said with a smile, trying to smooth things over.
Chen Gang was filled with a sense of crisis.
The production team members bypassed me and assigned the work themselves.
What's even more critical is that if we could really harvest all the wheat in the assigned fields today...
We haven't been able to do that in the past few years.
If I really succeed, then what am I, as the captain of the brigade?
That would truly make them the most detrimental pest to production in the team!
No, what am I thinking? It's a good thing if production efficiency can be increased.
But why did I suddenly start thinking like this?
Chen Gang wasn't the only one whose mind was in turmoil.
The villagers were completely confused, and Lin Mo's head was throbbing.
The initial excitement of stirring things up has subsided, and now that things have calmed down, the three followers who were following Lin Mo around are starting to feel immense pressure.
Five hundred catties of fish is a minimum requirement, which is no small amount. You'd need ten baskets to hold it all, and three people would have to make two trips back and forth to carry it to the team.
But this is just something Lin Mo confidently said; should he be able to do it?
The three of them can't guarantee that, but there's one thing they can do right now.
“Brother Lin, you delivered all the fish to the supply and marketing cooperative yesterday. The three of us brothers each took two fish last night, making a total of six.”
"Come on, let's go to our house and get it first."
Hearing this, Lin Mo was immediately surprised. Oh my, he had never thought of taking anything from them, yet they actually brought it up on their own initiative.
It was actually quite touching.
"You've only had one meal of meat, and you're already being so generous?" Lin Mo joked, but his heart was warmed.
“What do you mean by being poor but generous?” Miao Wang said with a grin.
"We only know that if we follow Brother Lin, we'll definitely get plenty of meat!"
"Can I become your apprentice, Master? From now on, I'll be your good disciple!" A-Jun made a gesture of bowing to Lin Mo.
Startled, Lin Mo jumped to avoid it.
"No, please don't treat me like that. I'm not some highly respected person."
Miao Qingsong led the way, heading straight for his house, chatting and laughing all the way:
"It's great to become an apprentice! From now on, our master's flesh will be our flesh, hehe."
"You're so vain!" Lin Mo rolled his eyes with a speechless laugh.
"According to age, I am the eldest brother, A-Jun is the third brother, and A-Wang, you are the second brother."
"Go to hell! You're the one who's Pigsy!"
During their playful banter, the mention of his second senior brother reminded Lin Mo that he hadn't checked the trap he'd made to catch anything yet.
"We'll get the fish tonight, and we'll go fishing around noon. It's still early, so let's go to the mountains and check out the traps I set up earlier."
"Let's see if we caught a wild boar."
These words caused the three friends to shout with excitement. If they caught a wild boar, they might not even need to fish anymore.
A wild boar weighs at least two or three hundred pounds!
The traps were set up earlier because they knew that wild boars roamed the mountains and had injured people.
If you plan ahead, the chances of getting caught are not small.
