Miao Qingsong was certain that his nose was more sensitive than a dog's, and he was sure he couldn't be wrong about it.
He immediately began rummaging through the wooden cabinet.
An oval-shaped, black, oily pellet of poop landed silently with a soft thud. Miao Qingsong, with his sharp eyes, looked down and, without minding the dirt, picked it up with his bare hands.
It really was rabbit droppings.
Rabbits have loose anuses and straight intestines, so they can't hold their poop in.
That one stray turd is enough!
"Village chief! We've found rabbit droppings!"
"Our rabbit was indeed stolen by those educated youth!"
The moment those words were spoken, the village chief's worldview began to tremble violently.
The village chief couldn't possibly imagine a scholar stealing rabbits and the other being the same person.
He looked around the door and then climbed inside.
Not satisfied with just finding one speck of poop, Miao Qingsong crouched down under the bed and in the corner, peering over to take another look.
Sure enough, he smelled the stench of urine again under the bed, and there was a small puddle of rabbit urine right in front of his face.
"There's rabbit urine in here! It was definitely them!"
After personally confirming the irrefutable evidence, Miao Qingsong immediately scurried out the window to return to the cafeteria and tell everyone the truth.
The village chief was still completely bewildered, his mind reeling from the shock of the situation.
Scholars, stealing?
He always respected scholars, and he always thought the best of people who were educated.
And then...?
Miao Qingsong had already disappeared from sight, so he hurriedly supported his old body and laboriously climbed out of the window to follow Miao Qingsong back to the canteen.
The canteen was still buzzing loudly, and the angry villagers were still spitting as they accused Chen Gang of looking down on them, the farmers.
The dozen or so educated youths who had been called to the canteen for a meeting saw this scene and immediately understood what was going on.
How could I not feel guilty?
"Brother Ting, what should we do? How did this cause such a commotion? The village even held a meeting overnight," Liang Zhenguo was extremely panicked.
"It's just a few rabbits, is it really that big of a deal?"
Liang Zhenguo was unaware that each of the educated youth had their own ulterior motives.
Xu Zhenting secretly encouraged Liang Zhenguo to steal Wang Junjun's rabbits, and also encouraged Chen Xin to steal Miao Wang's rabbits.
He went to steal from Miao Qingsong's house.
While roasting rabbits with my good friend Wang Jian in the woods at night, I happened to see Aunt Lin carrying a lively burlap sack.
Wang Jian was craving rabbit meat and hoped to eat it tomorrow. Xu Zhenting, knowing his thoughts, encouraged him.
Unable to resist his craving, Wang Jian, after being urged, grabbed the short, thick stick left over from burning firewood and quietly followed behind.
In his panic and nervousness, he lost control of his strength and knocked Lin Da Niang unconscious, causing her to roll down the slope.
In short, everyone has different information. They only know what they did, but not what others did, and they all think it's just a matter of a few rabbits.
In reality, after everyone gathered together, an extremely serious mass incident occurred in the village that day.
"Nervous my ass." Xu Zhenting was full of confidence, which came from the fact that he was a scholar, meticulous and had hidden everything that needed to be hidden.
He has a million reasons to believe that these rough, peasant farmers have no ability to find evidence:
"Stop panicking! Are you trying to make sure everyone knows you're flustered?" Xu Zhenting reprimanded sternly.
"They stubbornly deny it, and since they have no evidence, there's nothing they can do about it."
"With their pig brains, they think they have any sense of evidence? Hmph, if they can find any evidence, I, Xu Zhenting, will change my name to Xu Dog!"
Hearing Xu Zhenting's confidence, the group of educated youth felt more at ease.
Thinking about it, it makes sense. These farmers usually just deal with crops; they don't know anything about the details.
Thinking about it this way, I stopped panicking and sat down in a well-dressed and dignified manner. Before long, I started to doze off.
The village chief yelled and shouted at Miao Qingsong to slow down, and finally caught up with him. He held him down so that he wouldn't start yelling as soon as he rushed into the canteen.
He'll be the one to talk to the captain about everything.
The honest and simple Miao Qingsong nodded in agreement.
Back in the canteen, the village chief ignored the villagers' deafening clamor and went straight to Chen Gang's ear, whispering and shouting:
"It really was done by the educated youth."
Upon hearing this, Chen Gang's face turned pale, his eyes filled with endless astonishment and disbelief.
The village chief explained the matter of rabbit droppings and urine in detail, leaving Chen Gang, who was originally full of opinions, completely bewildered and at a loss.
"Could it be a frame-up or something..."
"Tch!" The village chief had already realized what was going on, and upon hearing this, he immediately glared at him:
"Do you really think farmers are inferior to scholars? Farmers can steal chickens and dogs, but scholars can't?"
The two men were glaring at each other, their faces flushed, but the villagers couldn't hear what they were shouting at each other.
It's the middle of the night, and I'm sleepy. I don't have much patience to begin with, and now I'm even more impatient.
"Are you two eating pig's ears together? What are you muttering about!"
"Exactly, why can't we just say it directly!"
"We've found the dung heap, let's discuss who should get the tip!"
Some angry villagers, in their impatience, started using very foul language.
Seeing that he could no longer contain the villagers' surging emotions, Chen Gang decided it was no longer appropriate to go against the tide and obstruct them.
I had no choice but to turn my head away and say, as loudly as possible, yet as softly as possible:
"The village chief found rabbit droppings in the educated youth dormitory."
These words caused another uproar among the villagers.
Xu Zhenting's heart sank. "Damn it, you peasants actually found out something."
He was alarmed, and the other educated youth panicked, hurriedly reaching out to tug at Xu Zhenting's coat, urging him to think of a solution quickly.
