Chapter 27 Dogs Bite Dogs

The truth was only partially revealed, but Chen Gang finally managed to sort out most of the mess in his head.

"Stop arguing, it's late, everyone go home and sleep, don't be late for work tomorrow."

Chen Gang rubbed his temples, trying his best to keep the situation under control.

"I'll go to the county to get people to come down and investigate when it gets light. Let's leave it at that for now."

He adopted a conciliatory attitude to ease the situation, but in reality, he didn't want to offend these educated youths who would eventually return to the city.

Why?

Because the college entrance examination has been reinstated.

These educated people will most likely go on to work in government agencies, or to put it bluntly, become officials.

Therefore, for the sake of the village collective's interests, justice is not important; what is most important is not to offend them now to prevent them from causing trouble for the village in the future.

"As for Aunt Lin's injury, the team will cover her medical and nutritional expenses. She will not be penalized for not working during her recovery period; she will be given a base score of 5 per day."

As soon as he said this, some villagers became unhappy again:

"Captain, how could you do this? It's not that we don't want Aunt Lin to get better, but there's a reason for this."

“If the team takes the blame, isn’t that just making everyone in the village bear the responsibility? In other words, it’s making us admit that we did something wrong?”

"Why should we, honest farmers, take the blame for this?"

Once someone takes the lead, the clamor resumes.

This gave Chen Gang a real headache.

It's neither this nor that; no wonder he had run past more than a dozen production team leaders before him.

I thought the villagers elected him because they valued his abilities, but it turns out he's just a menial errand boy.

"We don't need the team to take responsibility," Lin Mo added.

"Even if we don't get a single penny back, we'll accept it. We just want justice."

Amid the commotion, some villagers, exhausted from sleep, quietly slipped out of the canteen.

Su Xiaoxiao and Su the carpenter had actually arrived earlier and had been listening from the back.

Several times during this period, Su the carpenter wanted to take his daughter home, but Su Xiaoxiao was unwilling to leave.

Actually, Lin Da Niang was probably beaten by Su the carpenter.

A few hours earlier, the father and daughter had been busy weaving narrow-mouthed bamboo baskets with others because the team suddenly had more than a thousand kilograms of fish to put away. They worked until the middle of the night.

When the father and daughter returned home exhausted, they glanced at the village road and saw Aunt Lin walking there, but they didn't know that Aunt Lin had come to their house on purpose.

In that glance, he saw Aunt Lin and two people following behind her.

I thought it was on the way, so I didn't pay much attention. After entering the house and closing the door, I ate and rested.

Several hours later, they learned that the two men weren't actually going the same way; they had deliberately followed them, looking for an opportunity to injure and rob them.

Although she couldn't see their faces clearly, Su Xiaoxiao could make out the outlines of their heads.

The men in the village all had neat buzz cuts, but those two had a lot of hair; one had bangs, and the other had a round head.

Scanning the group of educated youth, only Xu Zhenting had bangs left.

The one with the round head is Wang Jian.

"go home."

Carpenter Su grabbed his daughter and urged her on in a cold, commanding tone.

But they said they couldn't move or pull them.

Helpless, carpenter Su could only resort to reasoning:

“My dear daughter, those educated youths may have been educated, but you saw it for yourself just now. Their faces were terrifying. They just spouted nonsense and even said they would sell people off without a second thought. They had no sense of decency whatsoever.”

"If we stand up and testify, they have so many people and they dare to be so arrogant because they must have connections. They are people we can't afford to offend."

"Offending them will lead to retaliation against our family."

Her father's words continued to shake Su Xiaoxiao's heart.

She simply couldn't bring herself to go against her conscience.

"Dad, you can't do this..."

Carpenter Su's temper flared up as well, and he reprimanded again in a low voice:

"Can't you see? Even the captain is protecting them. We're just ordinary people, like ants, who can be crushed in an instant."

"If we leave this place, how will we ever be able to live our lives again?!"

"Walk!"

Too lazy to argue with his daughter any longer, Su the carpenter decided to use force to drag her home.

Su Xiaoxiao was being dragged out of the cafeteria.

final.

She spoke, and her voice wasn't quiet:

“I know who hit Aunt Lin, I saw it.”

As soon as he said those words, Su the carpenter felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, his heart freezing cold.

The cafeteria fell silent instantly as everyone turned to look at her.

Lin Mo turned around blankly and saw that it was Su Xiaoxiao. He waited expectantly for her to continue.

Su Xiaoxiao glanced at Chen Gang's face and, just as her father had said, he was glaring at her with a dark expression.

Just before her courage was about to vanish, she said in a slightly trembling voice:

“I saw who hit Aunt Lin.”

"Aunt Lin was walking on the village road when she didn't realize that there were two people following her."

"One has bangs, and the other has a round head."

Upon hearing this, the villagers all turned to look at the group of educated youth.

"Stripping his bangs? Only Xu Zhenting does that!"

"Is that Wang Jian with the round head, not Chen Xin?"

Chen Xin was still angrily trying to prove his innocence when suddenly his innocence returned, and he subconsciously touched his head.

His sideburns were shaved clean, not only not round, but square.

After realizing what was going on, he immediately understood why Wang Jian was so eager to pin the blame for the assault and robbery on him.

"You damned servant girl! So it was you who did it! You wanted me to take the blame!"
