Wu Fengshou was initially surprised by the sudden entry of someone into his home.
When he came to his senses, Jiang Ying, who smelled of soap, was breathing warm air onto his face.
When the beautiful and young female educated youth suddenly came so close, he was so distracted that he almost lost his balance.
"Hey village chief, what's wrong? Did you hurt your foot?" Jiang Ying continued to skillfully put on a smile.
The village chief stared at him, completely bewildered.
"you……"
What are you two doing?!
Suddenly, a shrill cry came from behind.
The village chief turned around and was shocked to see his wife returning with a hoe on her back.
After finishing her meal in the canteen, Liu Juan carried her hoe home. As soon as she got home, she saw the two of them standing so close together in the yard, whispering to each other face to face.
She instantly bristled.
"You old bastard! You were secretly whispering with that vixen behind my back!"
"I think you're tired of living!"
Liu Juan's anger surged to her head, and she picked up a hoe and smashed it at the two of them.
"oops!"
The village chief was startled and quickly jumped away to avoid it.
Jiang Ying was also quite frightened and quickly took the opportunity to run out of the yard and slip away.
As he rushed out of the yard, Wu Ji happened to return, and the two bumped into each other.
Before Wu Ji could react and say anything, Jiang Ying covered her face and ran away.
"What?! What are you doing?! Are you crazy?!"
"I'm taking care of the piglets! What am I doing!"
Wu Fengshou had never seen his wife act so crazy before, and he was so frightened that he ran around the yard in a panic.
Liu Juan chased after him but couldn't catch up; anger and resentment exploded violently inside her at the same time.
She threw down the hoe and plopped down on the ground, bursting into tears and wailing, kicking her legs and flailing her arms.
"We must have been blind! How could we have married such a lecherous old man like you!"
"He actually cheated on his wife at home behind our backs!"
"You're so capable of having affairs! If you're not, go open a hotel!"
"No more alive, no more life!"
Hearing his mother's wailing, Wu Ji looked blankly at his father:
"Dad, what are you doing? Ah..."
Recalling what had just happened, Jiang Ying had actually rushed out of his house, and he couldn't help but widen his eyes in disbelief:
"Dad, how could you! What were you thinking?!"
The village chief, his slow-witted mind finally caught on; his face was full of anxiety, yet he couldn't utter a word.
"My God, I've been wrongly accused!"
"I don't even know when Jiang Ying came in. I was really busy settling the piglets!"
"What do you mean, 'slutting'? You're talking nonsense! Do you think I'm that kind of shameless person?!"
Liu Juan lost her temper, feeling both angry and aggrieved:
"We won't listen! We won't listen!"
"I'll beat you to death!"
Enraged again, Liu Juan grabbed a broom and hurled it at Wu Fengshou.
The house was thrown into chaos, and Wu Ji was caught in a dilemma – whether to stop them or not.
Both of them were furious and argued fiercely.
...
When Lin Mo arrived at Su the carpenter's house, he was about to knock on the door when he heard Su Xiaoxiao talking to her father in the yard.
“Those educated youth only studied halfway through their education, and only after the college entrance examination was reinstated were they able to take it. You’ve already finished junior high school, that’s about right.”
“Dad, the college entrance exam has been reinstated, and so has the middle school entrance exam. Maybe if we study for another three years, we can find a decent job in the city with our diplomas.”
"You'll be twenty this year, going to high school with a bunch of teenagers. Just thinking about it makes me feel ashamed. Can you handle that?"
"From ancient times to the present, books have never been for ordinary people. Our family has been rural people for generations, like little ants. Even if you study well, how can you compare to those in the city who have connections and backgrounds?"
"Dad, I used to have excellent grades."
"Hehe, how long ago was 'back then'? It was six or seven years ago. Besides, what kind of person goes to high school when they're of marriageable age?"
“My dear daughter, when you were little you said you wanted to go to school, and I did not let you down. I sent you to first grade when you were seven. There are so many thirteen or fourteen-year-olds in the village who have not yet started primary school. Compared to them, I have been very good to you.”
"Listen to my advice. Books are for people with connections and backgrounds, not for us. As long as you can read and aren't illiterate, that's enough."
Lin Mo stood outside the courtyard, straining to hear clearly.
It turns out that Su Xiaoxiao wanted to study, but Su the carpenter didn't quite agree.
"dad……"
“Oh, daughter, even if Dad agrees, the family’s situation doesn’t allow it. Actually, I inquired a few days ago and found out that the minimum tuition for a semester of high school is fifty yuan. We need to prepare a hundred yuan.”
"I heard there are also miscellaneous fees of several tens of yuan, not including food and accommodation expenses."
“Your mother and I work hard in the production team all year round, and our combined year-end settlement is only forty or fifty yuan. We really can’t afford it.”
From then on, Lin Mo, who had been eavesdropping, heard no more of Su Xiaoxiao's pleading.
I glanced down at the sack; inside were two rabbits.
I'm hesitant to trade wild game privately in the village, but the village chief seems to be allowed to.
After all, he didn't refuse to trade coal for wild boars.
Go to the village chief's house and see if he's willing to buy his rabbits and pheasants.
The promised gift money and the three gold items and five pieces of jewelry, when converted into cash, should amount to two thousand yuan.
Get two thousand yuan as soon as possible so that Su Xiaoxiao can go to school.
When we arrived at the village chief's house, the gate to the courtyard was not closed.
As soon as I got close, I could hear what sounded like a battle raging inside.
The woman's cries, the man's roars.
"What's going on?" Lin Mo asked, peeking into the courtyard from the gate.
Good heavens, the village chief had several bloody scratches on his face, while his wife, Liu Juan, had her hair pulled into a mess.
