Chapter 15 Selling Vegetable Pancakes 1

Qiao Haisheng had already borrowed the bicycle. Qiao Xiaoni called Qiao Xiaoshan over, and the two briefly discussed the route before setting off.

The basket was a bit big, so Qiao Xiaoni could only hold it with one hand and grip Qiao Xiaoshan's lower back tightly with the other. It was a men's bicycle, and it was very fast to ride.

Qiao Xiaoshan was very nervous about giving someone a ride on his bike for the first time, worried that he might accidentally ride the bike into a ditch.

"Xiao Ni, what do you think of my technique?"

“That’s great. I want to learn to ride a bicycle with you when I come back, so that I can ride a bicycle by myself when I go to town to sell things.”

“Bicycles are hard to learn; it took me two days to get the hang of it. Besides, Mom won’t let you go to town alone.”

"Brother, you underestimate me. I think riding a bicycle is quite simple and doesn't require that much time. As for Mom, I'll find a way to persuade her. Just tell me if you'd be willing to teach me how to ride a bicycle, okay?"

After hesitating for a while, Qiao Xiaoshan finally spoke: "Well... if you want to learn, I can teach you."

“Then it’s settled,” Qiao Xiaoni replied with a smile.

Qiao Xiaoshan rushed to the town, worried that the prepared vegetable pancakes would get cold. Fortunately, the road was relatively smooth, and he arrived in the town without any major incidents.

The sun had already risen, and after a long journey, they arrived at the town's market. The market was already bustling with people, and vendors lined both sides of the road selling vegetables, fish, and mostly secondhand items, such as old clothes and shoes.

Qiao Xiaoni had been looking for a suitable place to set up her stall, and after looking around, she finally decided to set up her stall next to an old lady who was selling noodles.

The old man's stall was selling insoles made of scraps of cloth, with many stitches sewn on them. These must be the legendary thousand-layer insoles.

Grandma Sun saw a young couple setting up a stall nearby. Her eyes were drawn to a brand-new basket covered with a thin blanket. Curious about what they were selling, she wondered what it was.

"Young lady, what are you selling?"

"Vegetable pancakes, eight cents each. There's no meat inside, but there's plenty of oil," Qiao Xiaoni enthusiastically introduced to the old lady. Seeing that the surrounding vendors had nothing to sell, and that the originally agreed-upon five cents was too little, she decided to add three cents.

Qiao Xiaoshan had just taken out his water bottle and taken a sip when he heard his sister announce the price. He almost choked. Eight cents for a vegetable pancake? Wasn't that robbery?

You know, cornmeal only costs a few cents a pound these days. He was about to say something when his sister glared at him, but then he decided to just stand there.

Grandma Sun was a little curious about what vegetable pancakes were: "Young lady, can you show me what vegetable pancakes are?"

We usually eat vegetable dumplings, which include both rice and vegetables. This is the first time I've heard of vegetable pancakes.

Qiao Xiaoni lifted the small blanket covering the basket and removed the white cloth, revealing the golden vegetable pancakes, which were slightly steaming and attracted the attention of the people around her.

Grandma Sun: "This is a vegetable pancake, it's still warm. Did you make this so early in the morning?"

Qiao Xiaoni nodded: "My mom and I made this early this morning. It's very oily and juicy. Two of them will definitely fill you up."

Looking at the steaming hot vegetable pancakes, Grandma Sun suddenly felt hungry. She had walked a long way to set up her stall early in the morning, which had been very tiring. Eight cents for a pancake was too expensive; a pair of insoles only cost two cents!
