Chapter 219 Thoughts 3

Qiao Xiaoni is a modern person without outdated ideas; she believes a widow must remain a widow for life. That's completely unfair to women. Ma Yulan looks very refined, like she's been to school.

She interfered because her family wouldn't easily agree to it. Whether Qiao Xiaoshan's feelings were just a passing fancy or love at first sight needed to be clarified.

Another question was what Ma Yulan's attitude would be. Considering various factors, she thought it was a good idea to bring someone to the shop. Even if something happened, they could deal with it as it came, since it was just washing dishes anyway. The shop was so busy; once she left, her sister-in-law definitely wouldn't be able to manage alone. Having someone wash dishes and tidy up would also improve efficiency.

Qiao Xiaoshan clapped his hands. "That's a good idea. With this money, she can improve her life."

Tao Chunfang tugged at Qiao Xiaoni's sleeve and shook her head, indicating her disagreement. If the old lady found out, she would definitely cause a huge uproar.

Having been a daughter-in-law for so many years, she understands the old lady. Deep down, she is a very traditional woman. How could she let her son marry a widow in mourning?

Qiao Xiaoni patted the back of her hand to calm her down.

Out of trust for her sister-in-law, Tao Chunfang did not interrupt.

Qiao Xiaoshan stood up and said, "I'll go tell Ma Yulan the good news."

"Second Brother, men and women shouldn't be so intimate. I haven't finished speaking yet!" Qiao Xiaoni said seriously. "I can let her work at the store, but you have to promise me that you won't have too much contact with her until you figure out what she really thinks."

As the old saying goes, "A widow's doorstep is always rife with gossip," and our shop is always bustling with customers. Do you want her to be the subject of idle chatter?

Qiao Xiaoshan shook his head like a rattle-drum.

"I don't want her to be gossiped about. I promise I won't talk to her once she starts working at the store."

Qiao Xiaoni nodded in satisfaction. "You don't need to tell her about this. I'll go visit her and see if she'd be willing to work at the store."

If she refuses, what will you do next?

"I..." Qiao Xiaoshan didn't know what to say.

Qiao Dashan looked at his brother, who was filled with disappointment and frustration, and said, "Every family has its own problems. If she doesn't want to work at the store, then don't do those irresponsible things. What will happen to her, a widow, if people misunderstand? Will she jump into the river?"

Qiao Xiaoshan shook his head vigorously again. He didn't want to cause someone's death out of good intentions. After this discussion, he was also uncertain about his feelings for Ma Yulan.

With lunchtime approaching, Qiao Xiaoni took off her apron.

"I'll be right back. If the shop gets too busy later, just call me from her doorstep."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Qiao Xiaoni left the shop, walked a few steps to Ma Yulan's house, saw that the door was ajar, knocked lightly, and then pushed the door open and went inside.

"Cough cough!" A woman's coughing sound came from inside the house; judging from the sound, it was the old lady coughing.

"Grandma, what's wrong with you?" the little boy's voice came out, followed by several violent coughs.

"Mom, let's go see a doctor!" Ma Yulan said anxiously. She felt that her mother's health was getting worse and worse. The family didn't have money and had been putting it off, thinking that it would get better if they just delayed. But it had gotten much worse in the last two days.

Wang Pozi lay in bed, saying, "I know my body is fine. We need to be careful with the money at home. I'll be alright after a rest."
