"I understand. If I can't handle it, I'll go home and rest." Tao Chunfang raised her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead.
"The weather suddenly got hot again; this 'autumn tiger' is really fierce!"
Qiao Xiaoni noticed that her complexion seemed okay; she probably vomited because she ate too quickly earlier.
"Sister-in-law, sit here and rest. I'll go help you. Take a rest and don't rush."
"Okay, you go ahead and do your work. I can manage on my own." Tao Chunfang waved her hand. She felt that she was probably just too tired. She seemed to have been sleeping late these past few days. She would recover after resting for a while.
Qiao Xiaoni and Su Chenhao were peeling corn together, exchanging a few words every now and then. Time passed by unnoticed, and when they looked up again, the corn behind them had been almost completely peeled.
Before it got completely dark, the first truckload of corn was loaded. Su Chenhao rode his bike back to deliver it, and everyone took a short rest. When he returned, they loaded the second truckload, and then Qiao Dashan rode it back.
After three trips, all the corn in the field was delivered home. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and walked home together under the cover of night.
Back home, Qiao Xiaoni took the initiative to cook noodles; everyone was exhausted. As long as there was something to eat, they ate with relish.
Su Chenqiu put down his chopsticks: "I'm done eating."
Su Chenhao patted his younger brother's head and said, "Go back to your room and sleep after you've finished eating."
"Okay!" Su Chenqiu responded and jumped off the kang to put on his shoes.
"Uncle, I want to sleep with you tonight, you promised me during the day." Qiao Manli exclaimed innocently, her little bottom twitching as if afraid Su Chenqiu would run away.
Everyone was taken aback at first, then they all started laughing.
Su Chenqiu was no longer a child, and everyone was laughing at him as he watched Qiao Manli walk towards him step by step.
"I was just saying that offhand. How can you sleep in the same room as me? You're a girl, you should sleep with your parents. If you don't behave, I won't let you play with me tomorrow."
"Waaah...you lied to me." Qiao Manli opened her mouth as if to cry.
Su Chenqiu couldn't stand her crying the most. "Okay, stop crying. If your parents agree, I'll let you sleep in the same room as me."
Qiao Manli turned her head and looked at Tao Chunfang with a wronged expression.
"Mom, can I sleep over there tonight?"
Tao Chunfang considered it for a moment. They were all just children, and Su Chenhao was sleeping in that room too, so nothing should happen.
"I can only go there for one night; I can't go there again tomorrow night."
Qiao Manli jumped up happily: "Great! I can sleep with Uncle tonight!"
Su Chenqiu never expected this outcome. Who would want to sleep with a little girl? He was a grown man now, and although he wanted to refuse, he didn't know how. He could only suffer in silence, unable to express his bitterness.
Su Chenhao shook his head and smiled; his younger brother had met his match.
After dinner, everyone went back to their rooms to rest.
When Qiao Xiaoni returned to the room, she saw Momo lying lazily on the kang (a heated brick bed), and couldn't help but go over and pet him again. Who could blame her for his adorable cat-like appearance?
Ignore the human form in your mind; after all, you're petting a cat, not a person.
Mo Mo vaguely felt someone touching his body. He opened his eyes and saw Qiao Xiaoni looking like she was enjoying it. He was so angry that he turned over and turned away.
After satisfying her urge to touch him, Qiao Xiaoni stopped. She took a book out of the cabinet, planning to go back to her space to sleep after she got home and fell asleep.
