Chapter 323 Cleverness Backfires (Part 1)

When Qiao Tianli heard his granddaughter's explanation, he would have believed her if they hadn't already dealt with each other before.

What a load of lies! My granddaughter is quite something! I wondered to myself how I hadn't noticed before. Thinking back, every time my son brought his granddaughter over, I barely glanced at her. Maybe I'd been missing something. Luckily, it's never too late to mend things; everything can be started anew.

Yang Lanying realized that buying the house cost over 1,000 yuan, which was indeed unaffordable for the Qiao family based on their income. Perhaps they really had taken out debts and weren't as wealthy as the rumors suggested. It was all for nothing; they'd even had to pay ten yuan for a wedding gift. No matter how you looked at it, it didn't seem like a good deal.

If she had known this would happen, she definitely wouldn't have come to Old Qiao's house and embarrassed herself.

Yang Lanying had no choice but to channel her grief and anger into her appetite, picking up her chopsticks to eat without uttering another word. The storm passed just like that, and everyone resumed their previous conversations, chatting and occasionally having a couple of drinks.

Qiao Xiaoni likes to eat fish, but she hates picking out fish bones because she always feels like she can't get them all out and is afraid of getting pricked in the mouth.

After observing her, Su Chenhao picked out the fish bones and then put the fish meat into her bowl. He didn't care if she ate or not, as long as she was satisfied.

Qiao Xiaoni liked the feeling of being pampered, so she decided to eat her fill first and then quickly put food on his plate.

Qiao Haisheng watched from a distance, thinking that his son-in-law was quite capable; he had already done a great job for his daughter.

"Has anyone seen Qiao Lingling?" Wang Qin's voice rang out from outside.

When Qiao Tianli heard that his granddaughter was missing, he hurriedly said to Qiao Haisheng, "Go out and see what happened."

"Hey!" Qiao Haisheng got up, slowly got off the kang (a heated brick bed), put on his shoes, and hurriedly went out.

Upon entering the outer room, they saw Wang Qin sweating profusely, while Qiao Haixing kept scolding her.

"Didn't I tell you to keep an eye on our daughter? What kind of mother are you? How could a perfectly healthy person just disappear?"

"I just went out to chat with someone, and when I turned around, I couldn't find her. I thought she would come back when we ate, but she hasn't returned yet." Wang Qin looked very anxious. She couldn't imagine where her daughter could have gone at this time.

"What happened?" Qiao Haisheng couldn't figure out what was going on, so he asked directly. Because of the unpleasant incident last time, there wasn't enough room in the house, so they were arranged to sit in the next room.

Qiao Haixing: "My daughter is missing. At first, I didn't notice and thought she was eating in your room."

Qiao Haisheng frowned: "Where could a grown person go? Have you searched everywhere?"

"I've checked the area in front of and behind the house, and they're not outside. What should I do?" Wang Qin was frantic with worry.

Qiao Dongdong then stepped forward and said, "When I went to the toilet earlier, I saw my sister heading towards the east end of the village. I wanted to call her, but before I could, I saw her turn and go in the opposite direction."

"Huh?" Qiao Haixing slapped his son's head again after realizing what was happening. "Why didn't you say anything when I was talking to your mother?"

"When would I be eating?" Qiao Dongdong said, looking aggrieved. "Besides, who knew she'd never come back!"

Qiao Haisheng stepped forward: "Now is not the time to hit the child. Come out with me and let's look for him outside. Maybe he's lost in the village. If we go out and call out a couple of times, we can find him."

He thought to himself, "I'm not a three-year-old, how could I get lost? After all, the village is so small, it only takes a few minutes to walk there."
