Chapter 38 Qiao Ling's Taunt 1

Su Chenhao followed the brother and sister, and after many twists and turns, they arrived at an old lady's stall, where a pile of shoe insoles came into view.

When Grandma Sun saw the siblings arrive, she turned around and took out several woven bags from behind her back, spreading them on the ground beside her: "Putting things on these bags makes them look cleaner. I brought them from home specifically for you to use."

Qiao Xiaoni placed the basket containing the vegetable pancakes on top: "Auntie, what time did you get your stall? We've arrived early enough today; I see that most of the other vendors have already come."

"I arrived at five in the morning. I usually set up my stall here. They generally don't compete with me for a spot, but I come early to be on the safe side."

How many vegetable pancakes did you make today? Two people came over earlier to ask when you were arriving, and I told them you'd be here soon and to come back later.

"Ah! They've come to buy vegetable pancakes so early." Qiao Xiaoni quickly took a vegetable pancake from the basket and placed it in the old lady's hand: "This is for you, don't be shy, you must not have eaten breakfast since you came so early in the morning."

Looking at the steaming hot vegetable pancakes, Aunt Sun said, "I can't accept this. You're selling these vegetable pancakes to make money."

"Auntie, don't talk to me about money. You helped me save a stall, and I can't let you help me for nothing. Besides, a vegetable pancake isn't worth much."

Aunt Sun thought it made sense, so she took the vegetable pancake, took a bite, and said, "It's so delicious, even better than yesterday. They really put a lot of oil in it. With a pancake this big, how can you even make a profit?"

Qiao Xiaoni: "They're all our own products, so we can make a little money, but not too much."

After hearing this, Aunt Sun seemed to be thinking. She had corn flour and vegetables at home, and the method of making vegetable pancakes was very simple. Anyone who cooks often would understand how to make them. If she made some vegetable pancakes and took them to the market to sell, could she make some money?

Then she thought again, "There are already young girls setting up stalls. Even if she makes vegetable pancakes, she can't compete with them." She dismissed the idea and decided to stick to selling shoe insoles.

Qiao Xiaoni soon received her first customer, the middle-aged man who had bought the vegetable pancakes the day before. He waved his hand and ordered five more pancakes, making his first sale. Soon after, the second and third customers followed.

Su Chenhao watched from the side, surprised that the unassuming vegetable pancakes were so popular. Thinking about it, it was indeed inexpensive; eight cents for one pancake, and two would be enough to fill up most people.

About an hour had passed, and most of the vegetable pancakes in the basket had been sold. At this moment, the sun was shining brightly, and more and more people were coming to the market.

Qiao Xiaoni took a sip of water when she had a moment to spare. She glanced at the meat stall in the distance. There weren't many people buying meat, and even those who did only bought a small amount.

With a swift stroke of his knife, the butcher quickly added more pork fat to the stall—meat specifically used for rendering lard.

"It'll definitely be expensive to buy meat now. Let's wait a bit and then go buy some more," Su Chenhao's voice came through.

Qiao Xiaoni put down the water bottle: "I know that without you telling me. I just want to see if his business is doing well."

Is he the only butcher stall in town?

Su Chenhao: "He's the only one selling pork. I know him. I'll take you there later to buy some, and we can get a discount."
