"Don't tell them. It's better to maintain the status quo than to let them know and be hurt. They'll never know you're not their daughter, and that's better for everyone."
Besides, saying it out loud would only hurt them more. Su Chenhao expressed his opinion, saying that he would have done the same if he were in their shoes.
"Yes, that's what I think too."
Qiao Xiaoni felt comforted and her heart was not as troubled as before.
They traveled a long way to a small shop, paid a deposit, picked up the phone, and made a call to the shop in town.
We're all acquaintances, so the convenience store owner helped call them.
I quickly got through to my family on the phone and told them how I had settled in.
Then they told me about what happened yesterday. The phone call was quite expensive, and finally, at Qiao Haisheng's urging, I hung up the phone.
After hanging up the phone, Qiao Xiaoni settled the phone bill with the shop owner and said angrily.
"Those bad guys, I should have given them a good beating before I left. They almost set fire to my second brother's house, and only one of them went to jail. That's too lenient on them."
Su Chenhao bought two more bottles of soda and pulled Qiao Xiaoni to sit down on a stone bench some distance away: "Drink some soda first, calm down, don't be so angry."
"Hasn't the matter been resolved? The worst member of that family is Xiao Deshun; attempted arson is a serious crime, and he won't be out for at least three to five years."
Qiao Xiaoni took the soda that was handed to her and took a big gulp, which calmed her down.
Su Chenhao also took a sip of soda. He was equally angry. If he had known to teach them a lesson before leaving, this wouldn't have happened.
After drinking the soda, Qiao Xiaoni felt much better and wasn't as upset as before. She returned the bottle to the shop owner and asked where the nearby shopping malls and markets were.
The kind-hearted shop owner gave them directions and also told them where to buy things at the cheapest price.
Setting off again, they had a clear goal: to visit the nearby market and buy some things for their home.
Qiao Xiaoni felt that the large iron lock on the door was unsafe, as it could be easily pried open with a wire, and she planned to go to the market to find a replacement lock.
They soon arrived at the market, where vegetable stalls came into view, numbering more than a dozen.
There was a much wider variety of vegetables than on the stool.
Su Chenhao looked thoughtful after seeing the vegetables, then glanced around at the crowd of people buying groceries. The older folks seemed to enjoy haggling with the vendors, creating a lively chatter.
Further inside, there are stalls selling pork, mutton, and beef. The butchers wear leather clothes, their knives gleaming, and they greet every customer who comes to their stalls.
The first stall was selling beef. Qiao Xiaoni saw that the beef looked good. There was beef on the left, beef bones on the right, and a bowl of beef blood in the middle.
When Master Niu saw a young couple walking towards him, he greeted them with a smile and asked, "We just slaughtered a calf this morning. Would you like to buy some? It's fresh and delicious."
Qiao Xiaoni suddenly thought of barbecue. It seemed that if she bought some fresh beef and mutton, she could process them and set up a barbecue stall tonight.
That way, the two of them can go out and earn money together.
She has the space to sleep without worrying about anything, and can get a good night's sleep even if she goes back in the early hours of the morning.
With that in mind, she immediately set her sights on the beef shank: "How much is this cut of meat? I'd like to buy some to grill. Do you have any good recommendations?"
