Qiao Xiaoni thought of the woman she had argued with during the day. She didn't know much about her background, so she decided to ask her now:
"Mom, her son is 30 and still not married?"
"Isn't that right? He's 30 years old and still not married. He's a notorious slacker who spends all his time idling. He gambles away his money. What girl would marry him?"
"Be careful when you pass by his house in the future, don't let that bastard target you." Li Meihua gave her daughter a heads-up, telling her not to fall into the trap of bad people.
Qiao Xiaoni picked up the wooden stick from the ground: "If she dares to make a move on me, I'll take this stick and break her legs."
Li Meihua coughed as she listened to the girl's bold words.
"What nonsense are you spouting, you little brat?" She turned to Su Chenhao and said, "I've spoiled this child. Don't mind her. Her father and I don't usually say much to her."
She has a very outgoing personality and says what she thinks.
Su Chenhao: "This kind of personality is good. It prevents you from being bullied. I think it's better for girls to be a little assertive."
This compliment touched Li Meihua's heart. "Isn't that right? I also think it's better to be a little assertive, so that you won't be bullied after marriage."
Before, my daughter was so gentle and timid, I was worried she would be bullied when she went to her in-laws' house!
Qiao Xiaoni felt that if the conversation continued, Li Meihua might say something she didn't know what! She stepped forward and grabbed her arm.
"Mom, come back to the room with me and see how the meat in the pot is cooking?"
We have too much to do today, and we still need to refine oil tonight, so we need to speed things up.
As Li Meihua walked, she said, "I checked when I went out, and the pig's head still needs to be stewed for a while longer. The seasonings you bought are really useful; the aroma is getting stronger and stronger now."
The color on top makes it look so appetizing.
Su Chenhao followed behind them, his eyes fixed on Qiao Xiaoni's back. This little girl was really interesting; it was the first time in so many years he'd met such an interesting girl.
...
Two chickens were eating on the ground in the messy yard.
"That damned little bitch, how come she has such a sharp tongue?" Liu Zhaodi sat on the stool, picking up pebbles from the rice while cursing, "A girl with a disfigured face will never be able to get married."
Song Min lay on the kang (a heated brick bed) fast asleep, completely ignoring the insults coming from inside the room. He was used to it all, and when he got really tired of it, he covered his ears with a tattered cotton quilt.
Looking at the nearly empty rice bag, Liu Zhaodi realized that her family was getting poorer and poorer. If she didn't find a way to make money soon, they wouldn't have anything to eat next month.
Looking at her son, fast asleep on the kang (a heated brick bed), her anger surged, as if she had found an outlet. Normally, she would never provoke her son. Today, however, a raging fire seemed to rise within her. She scooped a ladle of water from the vat and splashed it at her still-sleeping son.
Song Min was woken up by the sudden splash of cold water. The entire quilt was soaked through. It was more of a cotton cover than a quilt, covered in a large, dark patch, barely keeping him warm. He sat up and wiped the water off his face.
"Mom, what's wrong with you? Are you crazy?"
Liu Zhaodi put her hands on her hips: "I told you to go out and find a job. When will you be able to find a suitable job?"
Even if you have to go out and do odd jobs for me, earn some money for me! All you do all day is eat, sleep, and gamble. Can't you give the family a break?
Song Min threw the tattered cotton quilt aside: "Aren't you annoying! You keep nagging all day long. I also want to make a lot of money, but I need the opportunity! Don't expect me to do manual labor. I don't want to become like my dad."
