“Sun Jie didn’t come to the exam today. I went to his dorm at noon to ask, and he hasn’t come back since he went out last night. Do you think something might have happened to him?” Zhou Meiling voiced her concerns. Most of the people in the classroom had left, so she wasn’t worried about being overheard.
"I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. He didn't come to the exam today. How's your relationship with him going?"
"Are you still planning to stay with him?" Qiao Xiaoni sat down next to her. Thinking about seeing Sun Jie and another girl get on the bus yesterday, she wondered how to tell her what she had seen.
"Well, actually I don't plan to be with him anymore. I just need the right opportunity to talk things out with him."
However, as you know, he's very stubborn. I suspect that if things between us aren't handled well, it could cause me a lot of trouble.
"Is that really what you think?" Qiao Xiaoni asked again to confirm.
Zhou Meiling nodded firmly: "I plan to break up with him, not only because we disagree on things."
Also, I feel like I don't have the same feelings for him as I did before. I can't quite put my finger on what's missing, but I just feel like we're not right for each other, and we shouldn't be together. Rather than this entanglement, it's better to break up cleanly.
After hearing what she said, Qiao Xiaoni told her what she had seen yesterday.
"You mean he took the bus with another girl? What were they doing?" Zhou Meiling asked quickly after her initial surprise.
"I don't know what they're doing. They seem very close, so they must have been together for a while."
"That girl seems to be an older student, but I don't know her name." After Qiao Xiaoni finished speaking, she saw that the girl's reaction was not sad or disappointed, so she felt relieved.
“I had a slight hesitation at first, thinking that I had let him down. But now that you've said that, I feel a sense of relief.” Zhou Meiling put her textbooks into her bag: “When he comes to me again, I will explain things to him.”
“If you’re too scared to tell him, then I’ll go with you another day and we can talk things out face to face.” Qiao Xiaoni patted her shoulder. “We’re best friends. How can I stand idly by when you’re in trouble?”
"I'm content with just hearing that." Zhou Meiling felt relieved and slung her backpack over her shoulder. "Let's go, let's get out of the classroom quickly, or the administrator will lock the door."
Qiao Xiaoni nodded, took her bag, and left with her.
The two parted ways at the bottom of the building and walked in different directions.
Qiao Xiaoni felt relaxed all over after finishing the exam, and even her stomachache was gone.
I walked to the school gate in a cheerful mood and was surprised to see Sun Jie returning from outside. He looked to be in good spirits.
There are so many things you can imagine when a man doesn't come home at night, but thankfully, she's already talked to Zhou Meiling. She's decided to break up with him, and all her previous worries are gone.
Sun Jie also saw Qiao Xiaoni, and quickly lowered his head to avoid her. He hadn't yet figured out how to tell Zhou Meiling. He planned to wait for a suitable opportunity to speak to her.
I never imagined that I would be the one to betray you first in this relationship.
Back in the dorm, the other three were busy with their own things and no one wanted to talk to him.
I was just unlucky; everyone in my dorm was an upperclassman, and one of them was about to graduate. We were all busy studying and rarely talked, except when we did talk, it was when we went out to eat together.
