“Son, your idea is good, but how can we let her marry you? I’ve asked many matchmakers for your marriage, but they all refuse to even consider it once they hear that you gamble.”
"These past two years, because of your father's leg injury, no matchmakers have come to our door." After her initial joy, Liu Zhaodi expressed her worries. She had married young and had this son quite early. Her mother-in-law doted on her husband, who was a good earner, and she had thought she could live a leisurely life. Who could have imagined that such a misfortune would strike in middle age? The family's life was getting worse day by day, and the outward appearance of prosperity wouldn't last for more than a few years.
"Do I need anyone to act as a matchmaker for me? I just forced myself on her; her family was practically begging me to marry her," Song Min said confidently.
"What? You want to... her, son? Are you crazy? That's illegal. What if she sues you?" Liu Zhaodi broke out in a cold sweat. This method was too ruthless.
Song Min said nonchalantly, "She won't sue me. If outsiders find out, her reputation will be ruined. I have a brother who did that before."
He's already had a healthy baby boy this year, and everyone says he's very lucky.
"This matter..." Liu Zhaodi didn't want her son to do anything illegal, but she also thought the idea was good. After thinking it over, she spoke again: "Even if I agree, your father won't! According to seniority, you're still relatives. Wouldn't being together be incest?"
"What kind of relatives are we? After all these years, we're way beyond the fifth degree of kinship. You should try to talk to my dad; I'm all grown up and still don't have a wife."
"Aren't you all eager to have grandchildren? My brother's child is old enough to run errands, and I still haven't settled down!" After saying that, he plopped back down on the kang (a heated brick bed): "If this really works out, you'd better take good care of things for me. Not to mention anything else, you should replace all the things on the kang."
"What's with all this smell? I have to sleep here every day."
“My little darling, don’t you know what our family’s situation is? You’ve racked up gambling debts over the years, and you’ve emptied our coffers. Where are we going to get the money to buy you things?” Liu Zhaodi couldn’t help but grumble. “If you had just been a little more ambitious and gone out to earn some money, would our family’s situation be so bad?”
"You're always criticizing me. I'm not talking to you anymore." After saying that, Song Min picked up the clothes that were on the kang (a heated brick bed) and went out.
Liu Zhaodi chased after him for a few steps but couldn't catch up. She could only shout at his back, "Think things through carefully, don't do anything reckless! That girl's personality is different from before."
"If you really cause trouble, your father and I won't be able to clean up the mess for you!" Before he could finish his last sentence, he watched his son leave without saying a word.
Liu Zhaodi's heart was pounding. Her son's idea was good, but could it be implemented?
The thought of what would happen if her son went to jail and she couldn't sit still any longer. She put on her shoes and ran out the door to try and bring her son back, but when she got outside, her son was nowhere to be seen.
I was filled with regret. Why did I agree to my son's request in such a moment of anger?
Qiao Xiaoni had no idea that someone was plotting against her because of an argument.
The pig's head was simmered for more than three hours and then taken out of the pot. Its dark red color looked very appetizing. When I pierced it with chopsticks, the whole chopstick went in, indicating that it was thoroughly cooked and ready to be taken out of the pot.
