Qiao Xiaoni quickly returned home with her basket. Qiao's yard was very large, with five brick houses in the center, the kitchen in the middle, and two living rooms on each side.
Qiao Xiaoni lived in the leftmost room, while Li Xuemei and Qiao Haisheng lived in the room next to hers.
There are some stones and bricks on the far left of the courtyard, which are intended for building a new house this year, in preparation for my second brother Qiao Xiaoshan's wedding.
Qiao Haisheng, wearing a tank top and trousers also heavily patched, was squatting in the yard weaving baskets. Seeing his beloved daughter return, he put down his work and asked with a smile:
"Why are you back so late today? It's too hot. I shouldn't have let you go to check on the land. Don't go tomorrow, I'll take care of it myself."
Qiao Xiaoni looked at the bamboo baskets scattered on the ground: "Dad, what are you thinking? You're just looking at the field for a while, right? Your skills are really good; you could sell them for money."
Qiao Haisheng smiled happily: "This is the first time you've praised my basket weaving. Have you had lunch yet? Your mother specially boiled eggs for you. The chickens at home don't lay eggs much because of the hot weather, otherwise I would have boiled a few more for you."
Qiao Xiaoni put the bamboo basket in her hand on the ground: "I didn't eat the eggs, I gave them to Manli. The child is growing and needs to eat more good things."
Qiao Haisheng was taken aback for a moment, then burst into laughter and said, "My daughter has finally grown up and knows how to share things."
Qiao Xiaoni: ...
"What are you laughing at, honey?" Li Meihua walked in from outside, carrying a basket filled with seedlings she had picked from the backyard.
Do you know what our daughter just said?
"What did you say that made you so happy?"
“The eggs you boiled for lunch today, she gave them to Manli, and she even said that children need to eat good food to grow. Our daughter is so sensible.”
The elderly couple asked and answered questions, and Qiao Xiaoni didn't know what to say. The original owner's personality was just too selfish.
Li Meihua's face darkened: "Why did you give the egg to Manli? You're feeling better and should eat more nutritious food. It was a rare treat for the chicken to lay an egg, so I specially cooked it for you."
Li Meihua felt guilty towards her daughter because she loved her dearly. If she hadn't gone out at the time, how could her child's face have been injured?
"Mom, I'm perfectly healthy now, aren't I?" Qiao Xiaoni explained. Before her rebirth, she didn't receive care from her parents, but after her rebirth, she had parents, and that deficiency was made up for. She would take good care of them.
Li Meihua sighed: "I'm worrying so much because of your health. You were unconscious for a day and a night. You have no idea how worried I was. I was afraid you wouldn't wake up again."
Qiao Xiaoni decided to change the subject and took the basket back from Li Meihua's hands: "What are we having for dinner tonight?"
Li Meihua sat down on a stool and said, "Didn't you see how many vegetables I picked? We're making vegetable dumplings tonight. They're not very tasty, but they're filling! They say that a half-grown boy can eat his father out of house and home. Your two older brothers can eat a lot, so if we don't make enough, it won't be enough for them."
They went out to work early this morning, and they didn't even have time to eat anything while they were out. We must make sure they have a good meal for dinner."
Qiao Xiaoni thought that her two older brothers were going out to do manual labor, so she brought some of her family's dry food with her and asked others for water when she was thirsty.
"Mom, will you teach me how to make vegetable dumplings tonight?"
"Ah!" Li Meihua exclaimed in surprise, "Girl, did someone say something about you? Don't listen to their nonsense, this guy doesn't need you to do any work."
