Chapter 144 Lu Jianjun Goes Mad

Guan Xiuqin cried and said, "Xiao Yao was beaten in Haishi. I injured my foot and can't walk properly. You need to get Lu Jianjun on the phone right away and have him go to the hospital in Haishi to take care of Lu Yao!"

Upon hearing that it was such a serious matter, everyone stopped joking around.

Someone went to the field and called Lu Jianjun to the village branch office. Lu Jianjun wiped his hands and answered the phone, asking, "Xiuqin, what happened to Xiaoyao?"

Guan Xiuqin broke down and said, "He was beaten up and hospitalized. You need to take the money and go to Haishi to take care of him!"

"He's at the Third People's Hospital of Shanghai!"

Guan Xiuqin only knew this much, and she couldn't explain it clearly in just a few words over the phone.

Lu Jianjun felt his head buzz and his heart clench.

"Don't worry, I'll go buy the tickets right away and head over there immediately!"

Upon hearing that Lu Yao was in trouble, he wished he could grow wings and fly to Haishi.

After hanging up the phone, Lu Jianjun didn't even bother with his work. He rushed home and quickly packed his things.

Grandma Lu's recovery wasn't very good, since no one was taking care of her.

Her family's financial situation has deteriorated rapidly; they can't eat well and don't get any rest, so she's now skin and bones.

"You got chased by the dog, what are you busy with?"

"Grandma Lu said with dissatisfaction."

Lu Jianjun wiped his sweat and said, "Xiao Yao was beaten up and hospitalized. I have to go take care of him!"

"Those damned bastards, if I find out who hit him, I will never forgive them!"

Grandma Lu snorted coldly, then leaned on her cane and went back home with a hunched back.

She wasn't surprised at all that Lu Yao didn't do well in this school, because his spot in the university originally belonged to Lu Yang.

Lu Yao is simply not cut out for studying, and he's been spoiled rotten by Lu Jianjun and Guan Xiuqin, making him arrogant and haughty. It would be good enough if he could live a peaceful life, but they actually expect him to achieve great things!

Grandma Lu was too lazy to say anything more. She went back to her room, closed the door, and lay back down on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Lu Jianjun rushed to the county and bought a train ticket to Haishi, but the train wouldn't depart until after 4 p.m.

Lu Jianjun was getting impatient waiting at the train station, so he simply carried his luggage out of the station and wandered around the streets.

He unknowingly walked to the vicinity of the meat processing plant and immediately spotted Lu's mother's Tianji Noodle Shop, which was doing good business.

Several tables were occupied with noodles, and a few waiters were moving around the shop. Lu's mother sat behind the counter, chatting with a customer with a big smile on her face. The two seemed to know each other very well.

Looking at his mother like this, Lu Jianjun felt a little unfamiliar with her.

They had been together for twenty years, and he had never seen Lu's mother laugh so heartily.

In his eyes, Lu's mother was like a block of wood, stupid and dull, which made him lose all interest in her. He never expected that Lu's mother would have such a vivid side.

He walked toward Tianji Noodle Shop without realizing it, and by the time he realized it, he was already inside.

He simply walked over to a table near the door and sat down. The waiter immediately came over and asked, "What would you like to eat?"

"There are hand-pulled noodles, buckwheat noodles, corn noodles, and hot soup noodles."

Lu Jianjun pursed his lips and glanced at his mother: "Did Tian Zhaodi make it?"

The waitress, Xiao Yuan, was taken aback and turned to look at Tian Zhaodi.

Tian Zhaodi then noticed the commotion. She glanced at Lu Jianjun, but quickly looked away and continued chatting with the other diners.

Xiaoyuan immediately understood and said with a smile, "We have a chef in our shop, and he's very good at cooking."

Lu Jianjun felt a chill run down his spine, and anger surged into his heart instantly.

He has indeed had a lot of bad luck these past two years, but he is still Tian Zhaodi's husband after all.

Tian Zhaodi dared to give him the cold shoulder; she clearly didn't take him seriously.

He absolutely cannot tolerate being treated coldly by someone he used to look down on.

So he shouted, "Tian Zhaodi, stop playing dumb with me and go cook me some noodles!"

Lu's mother raised her head, her face stern, and said, "Have you forgotten about going to the detention center last year?"

"This is very close to the police station. If you dare to cause trouble, I will call the police immediately. The police will be here in ten minutes!"

Lu Jianjun certainly didn't want to go to the detention center, and his momentum immediately dissipated by half.

But he still glared at Tian Zhaodi with resentment and mocked, "You old country woman, you think you're so great just because you run a shabby noodle shop? Who do you think you are?"

"We're not divorced yet, I'm still your man!"

Lu's mother looked at him with a stern face and said quietly, "We didn't get a marriage certificate, but we held a banquet. Legally, we are not husband and wife!"

Lu Jianjun was immediately speechless; he hadn't expected Tian Zhaodi to say such a thing.

Actually, Lu's mother's heart was pounding wildly. These words were taught to her by Lu Xing, and they reminded her of many past events.

Twenty years ago, the village chief of Lujia Village was also surnamed Lu and was Lu Jianjun's great-uncle. The village chief reminded him that it would be best to have a wedding ceremony when he got married.

But Lu Jianjun never liked her and was extremely indifferent to her, only giving her perfunctory treatment and having no intention of getting a marriage certificate.

She didn't take it to heart back then, because at that time, many people who were under the legal marriage age would simply hold a few tables of banquet without getting a marriage certificate, and that was considered marriage. Back then, common-law marriage was respected.

Lu Jianjun took a deep breath, feeling his head buzzing and his face turning a liverish color.

Even though he and Tian Zhaodi were only three square tables apart, he felt as if Tian Zhaodi were tens of thousands of meters away from him, and that he could never be with Tian Zhaodi again.

He felt frustrated and wanted to hit Tian Zhaodi, but then he noticed that everyone in the field was watching him warily.

"You shameless hussy, you've been with me for twenty years, had three kids, and you're in your forties now. How are you going to find someone to remarry? You shameless bastard!"

Lu Jianjun dared not make a move, yet he couldn't swallow his anger.

In his view, anyone could give him the cold shoulder, but not Tian Zhaodi and the three siblings, Lu Yang and Lu Zhaodi!

Lu's mother was so angry that she burst into tears, choking and unable to speak. She had been suppressed by Lu Jianjun for twenty years and had long since become cowardly, lacking the confidence to confront Lu Jianjun head-on.

At this moment, Aunt Xu walked over and shouted sternly, "You heartless bastard, why don't you hurry up and die in place of the good people!"

"You're bullying Zhao Di again! Zhao Di doesn't owe you anything. Get out of here right now, or I'll have the police arrest you!"

Aunt Xu's loud voice immediately attracted the attention of passersby, who all stared at Lu Jianjun as if he were a monkey in a zoo.

Lu Jianjun felt that everyone was laughing at him. He kicked over the table, picked up his backpack, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.

"What a load of rubbish, you idiot! You've been biased for half your life, and in the end, you've lost your wife and children, and you still think you're so tough!"

Aunt Xu was naturally not going to let him off the hook, and continued to stomp her feet and curse loudly.

Lu's mother choked back tears as she went into the small room behind the noodle shop, closed the door, and burst into loud sobs.

After scolding for a while, Aunt Xu immediately ran into the shop to comfort Lu's mother.
