Chapter 170 Exploiting Others

The villagers used to dislike Old Mrs. Lu because of how much Lu Jianjun disliked her, but now they feel sorry for her.

At her advanced age, she was left to guard her old house alone, with no one to rely on, so the villagers took better care of her than before.

Grandma Lu's eyes flickered; she suddenly remembered the color TV in Lu Yang's house.

The people in their village were so poor that they could only watch open-air movies in the factory during the dead of winter.

She sighed deeply, feeling a lump in her throat, and waved her hand, saying, "I'm not going to see it. I don't have the energy. I'm going back to sleep."

Looking at her hunched back, the villager couldn't help but sigh and quickened his pace with his companion.

After returning to her room, Old Mrs. Lu lay down on the cold kang (heated brick bed), wrapped herself tightly in the quilt, but felt no warmth at all.

Her eyes were numb. After thinking for a long time, she suddenly got up.

She thought about how Guan Xiuqin was still the factory director's wife, yet she had ruined her family so badly. She absolutely couldn't let Guan Xiuqin live a comfortable life.

After thinking about this, she immediately found her thickest cotton coat, wrapped it around herself, ate something, and headed towards the county under the cover of night.

Guan Xiuqin's leg had long since healed, and she took on the task of picking up and dropping off the children at school every day.

She used to hate being a housewife, but now she has become one herself, spending her days around the stove.

She couldn't have any opinions, because she couldn't go back to the Lu family. If she left the Liang family and had no money to rely on, she would really end up on the streets.

What's worse is that Lu Qing and Lu Yao are probably unreliable, so she can only cling to the Liang family desperately.

At 7:30 in the morning, she took Liang Min's child to the factory's preschool, then went to the market to buy groceries before rushing home.

After walking for a while, she felt like someone was watching her, but when she turned around, she didn't find anyone behind her.

This made her feel very strange, as if she had a thorn in her side.

She hesitated for a moment, then quickened her pace, trying to shake off the person behind her.

But the person behind her kept following her, which made her break out in a cold sweat, and she ran towards the crowd.

After running to a crowded place, she finally calmed down, ran around in circles, and then ran home covered in sweat.

"Guan Xiuqin, you're doing well now!"

As soon as she opened the door, she heard Old Mrs. Lu's voice behind her.

Guan Xiuqin felt a chill run down her spine. She still remembered the last time Old Mrs. Lu beat her so badly that she ended up in the hospital. That was a psychological trauma for her.

She never wanted to recall this incident again. She instinctively tried to rush into the house and lock the door, but before she could, Old Mrs. Lu rushed into the house with her.

"Mom, don't push me like this. Let's go our separate ways and live our own lives. We've been mother-in-law and daughter-in-law for so many years, and I've treated you pretty well. Why do you have to torment me?"

As Guan Xiuqin spoke, she backed away, not wanting to get close to Old Mrs. Lu at all.

Grandma Lu pressed him relentlessly, sneering repeatedly: "How dare you say such nonsense to me? Have you ever been kind to me?"

"You've been married into the Lu family for twenty years. Have you ever washed a single piece of clothing for me? Have you ever cooked a proper meal for me? When I was sick, have you ever taken care of me even once?"

"Who wouldn't talk back? You bitch. You're the one who broke up the Lu family!"

Guan Xiuqin immediately became angry: "You yourself don't like Tian Zhaodi, so why blame everything on me?"

"You just think she's easy to bully, don't you? You can't control me because Lu Jianjun is protecting me. Otherwise, wouldn't you have tormented me to death, a widow whose husband has died? You're shameless and you're blaming others!"

“Tian Zhaodi is also in the county now, and she’s doing much better than me. Why don’t you dare to bully her? Isn’t it because you’re afraid of Lu Yang? He has someone backing him up now, so you don’t dare to treat him like you used to?”

Guan Xiuqin's words completely enraged Old Mrs. Lu, who grabbed a vase from the doorway and threw it at Guan Xiuqin.

Guan Xiuqin screamed and turned to rush towards the bedroom, shouting as she ran, "Help! Murder!"

As soon as Grandma Lu entered the house, she closed the door behind her, locked it, and headed straight for her kitchen.

She used the kitchen utensils in their house to cook herself a braised pork dish with their white rice, ate a big meal, and made a huge mess of the kitchen.

Guan Xiuqin huddled in her bedroom, too afraid to go out.

After Grandma Lu finished eating, she didn't rush to leave. Instead, she sat in the living room and watched TV with the volume turned up very high.

Guan Xiuqin didn't dare to breathe loudly, pacing anxiously in her bedroom.

She had to pick up her child around 3 p.m., but it was already 2:30 p.m. and Grandma Lu showed no sign of leaving.

What's worse, she acted too impulsively and ran into the bedroom, where there was no phone.

After hesitating for a long time, she was still afraid of offending Liang Min, so she braced herself and pushed open the bedroom door, bowing to Old Madam Lu and pleading, "Mom, what do you want? Just tell me, I beg you, please don't come looking for me again."

Grandma Lu picked her teeth with a toothpick, then casually tossed the toothpick onto the coffee table and said nonchalantly, "Your food is really good. I haven't had meat in a long time. If I crave meat in the future, I'll come to your house for a meal."

Upon hearing this, Guan Xiuqin was so angry that her chest ached.

She couldn't help but mutter a curse in a low voice: "You've ended up like this because of your son, it has nothing to do with me. If you're so capable, go find your son in Shanghai!"

Grandma Lu stared at her expressionlessly and said, "My son still serves your son, so isn't it only natural for you to serve me?"

Guan Xiuqin was so angry she almost fell over. She had always known that this old lady was an unreasonable and stubborn person, but this kind of thing had never happened to her before.

She now felt an urge to tear the old woman to pieces.

She glanced at the time and knew she couldn't delay any longer, so she gritted her teeth and said, "Now that you've finished eating, it's time to go. I have things to do. If you don't leave, I'll call the police. This is the Liang family's place."

Grandma Lu didn't expect to be able to stay here. As a rural woman, she was still a little intimidated by the factory director from the county.

She came here to annoy Guan Xiuqin, so she slowly got up, took out a cloth bag, and stuffed all of Guan Xiuqin's apples, oranges, and pears into the bag.

Guan Xiuqin's face contorted in disgust; not everyone can afford to eat fruit this season.

These fruits were all brought back from the south by someone Yang Jingwei asked for, for his grandson to eat.

But she didn't dare stop Old Mrs. Lu, fearing that if Old Mrs. Lu lay down on the ground, she would start a tantrum and make a scene.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.

Seeing that Grandma Lu had left carrying a bunch of things, she quickly locked the door and hurried downstairs to pick up Liang Min's child.

Grandma Lu stood at the corner, watching her run away, and gave her a mocking smile.
