Chapter Forty-Five: The Brother-in-Law Who Created Something Out of Nothing

The four of them sold out all the goods in one morning and then went back.

After seven round trips, Wang Jiang and Xu Yang were both exhausted and looked pale.

Cheng Lin looked at them and burst into laughter, saying smugly, "You two aren't any better! This is my first time traveling out, and I've made thirteen round trips with Brother Lu!"

Wang Jiang and Xu Yang both gave Cheng Lin a thumbs up, their faces full of admiration.

Lu Yang smiled and said, "I'm planning to open an electronics store in the provincial capital. Are you planning to stock clothes or something else?"

Wang Jiang only said one sentence: "Anything is fine, I just want to go home."

Xu Yang leaned wearily against the car and said, "Clothes, let's be safe!"

Lu Yang nodded: "Okay, then let's make another trip to the black market, buy a batch of clothes and mail them back, and then we'll haul a truckload of electronics back with us."

"Electrical appliances are not resistant to drops. If they are dropped and broken on the road, the loss will be huge."

No one else objected, so the group went back to rest.

After resting for a day, Lu Yang bought some rice and oil and took them to Qi Kang's house.

He had just arrived at Qi Kang's door when he heard a quarrel.

"I'm your own sister! How could you keep something from me?!"

“I wrote to my relatives back home to ask about it. Your house was sold for 60,000 yuan. Why did you hide it from me?”

Tan Xia roared in a sharp voice.

Tan Juan shrank back in fright, tears welling in her eyes, and dared not utter a sound.

Qi Kang said coldly, "How much money my family has is none of your business. You don't need to worry about it."

Tan Xia became even more furious: "How dare you, a child, interrupt when adults are talking?"

"Get out of here! Xiaojuan, your money doesn't earn much interest in the bank anyway, you might as well give it to me first."

“Your brother-in-law makes a lot of money every year in his business. His money makes more money, and maybe it will double in a few years.”

Tan Juan hesitated for a moment and said, "We have fixed-term savings accounts."

"I can't withdraw it for now, let's just forget about it, what if we lose money!"

Tan Xia was very impatient, but she still patiently said, "Your brother-in-law is very good at business, he makes a sure profit."

"If you don't believe me, I'll take you to your brother-in-law's shop tomorrow. He makes a steady profit every month."

Lu Yang, unable to bear it any longer outside, quickly carried his things into the courtyard.

"Sister Tan, Xiaokang, Happy New Year!" Lu Yang called out.

Tan Xia turned her head to look at Lu Yang and felt that he looked familiar. After thinking about it carefully, she remembered that Lu Yang was the one who brought Qi Kang and his mother here.

She could tell that Lu Yang was a well-traveled man who was not easily fooled, and a hint of urgency and panic flashed in her eyes.

Qi Kang ran quickly to Lu Yang's side: "Brother Lu, Happy New Year!"

Lu Yang patted his hair: "Can you keep up with your studies here?"

Qi Kang tilted his head and said smugly, "I can now understand what the people here are saying, so my grades are not bad."

Lu Yang breathed a sigh of relief; at least Qi Kang's life was back on track.

As he spoke, he invited Qi Kang and Tan Juan into the house, leaving Tan Xia standing outside.

Her expression twisted, and she pointed at Lu Yang's nose, cursing, "This is none of your business, get lost, or don't blame me for being impolite!"

Lu Yang said coldly, "Why are you being so rude to me?"

"I had a friend check it out. You were swindled out of all your money shortly after arriving in Guangzhou, and now you have to work as a hostess in a disco. You don't even have a husband!"

Tan Xia was surprised that Lu Yang knew her past, and shouted fiercely but weakly, "What nonsense are you talking about!"

Lu Yang scoffed: "Do I need to make things up? You came over without even removing your makeup after get off work, didn't you? Those thick eyebrows, red lips, pale face, and those high heels—isn't that how you all dress?"

Tan Xia's face turned bright red, as if she had been stripped naked and thrown into the street.

Tan Juan stared in disbelief: "Sister, why did you go to a place like that..."

Tan Xia dropped the pretense and glared venomously at Tan Juan: "Aren't you going to go to a place like that and wait to starve to death?"

"Why did that old man pass the house on to you? Why are you not as pretty, not as smart, not as likable as me, yet you're doing better than me?"

Tan Juan clutched her chest, took two steps back in shock, and stammered, "Go away... don't come looking for me again!"

Tan Xia sneered: "You think I'm dirty? And what good are you anyway?"

As she spoke, she pointed at Lu Yang and said, "Do you think he can stay by your side forever? Unless you give me all the money you saved for the house, I'll come looking for you whenever I have free time!"

After saying that, she swayed her hips and walked away quickly.

Lu Yang turned to Tan Juan, who was stunned. Tan Juan's lips trembled, and after a long while, she exclaimed, "My God!"

"She even represented her school's dance team in high school and won first place. How did she end up like this?"

Lu Yang continued, "So, do you want to leave the money to your son or your sister?"

He had long noticed that Tan Juan was in poor health and did not look like someone who would live a long life.

Tan Juan's eyes hardened considerably: "Of course I'll leave it for my son, Xiaokang is so young."

Qi Kang immediately grabbed Tan Juan's hand: "Mom, all I want is for you to live a good life."

The mother and son were instantly overcome with grief, and Lu Yang quickly pulled them out of this sorrowful atmosphere.

"I've brought you rice and oil. Money is something that's most valuable when it's in your own hands. You must remember that."

Lu Yang reminded him repeatedly, and he even thought that if Qi Kang was still as destitute as in his previous life, he would sponsor Qi Kang for a few years to help him complete his studies.

Qi Kang nodded solemnly. The three chatted for a while, and then Lu Yang returned to Zhengjia Village to rest.

Three days later, the four men returned home with a cartload of electrical appliances.

Two days later, they returned to the provincial capital. Wang Jiang and Xu Yang generously helped Lu Yang and his team move the goods into the two-story building.

Lu Yang took them to a restaurant for a meal before they left.
