Chapter Two: Dividing the Family



"You little beast, you little beast, you wicked little beast! I am your own grandmother, and you actually want to force me to my death!"

Grandma Lu threw the kitchen knife on the ground and burst into tears.

"What's wrong, Sister-in-law Lu?" A passerby stopped at the door and peered into the yard to ask Old Mrs. Lu.

Lu Yang ignored them, walked past her into the kitchen, and poured out half of the rice, flour, oil, and salt.

When he came out carrying large and small bags, Grandma Lu's face was twitching with heartache. She pounded her cane on the ground, and her eyes looked at Lu Yang as if she wanted to pounce on him and bite off a piece of his flesh.

The onlookers shook their heads in disapproval, and one of the older men, a man in his fifties, said coldly, "Young man Lu, even when your parents are alive, you shouldn't separate from your family. Why are you acting like this?"

"Quickly apologize to your grandma and dad. You're such a big boy, and you don't know any better!"

Aunt Yu, who was standing nearby, chimed in, "That's right. He didn't get into university, yet he blames others for not supporting him properly. Isn't that just raising a wolf for nothing?"

"If you had any conscience at all, you should be filial to your father and grandmother. Why would you want to move out and live separately? What can you do if you move out?"

Lu Yang stared intently at Aunt Yu and said coldly, "Others may not know, but don't you know how we manage to make a living?"

“My mother and my two siblings and I do all the work in the fields and at home. My father is busy with village affairs all year round. He is very busy, but I have never seen him bring back a few cents. My grandmother does nothing and is always cursing and swearing.”

“Lu Yao, Lu Qing, and Guan Xiuqin are like they’re dead. They don’t even know to pick up a fallen oil bottle. In this family, it’s as if my mother and my two siblings are just servants, and the four of them are the masters.”

"They want to be their masters, don't they? We can start our own businesses and make a living without having to support those four!"
