After the first body was unearthed, the police officers at the scene realized the seriousness of the situation.
Because that piece of paper and those physical evidences all showed that the victims were not just one or two people, but more than a dozen people.
The director covered his forehead and sighed, "We're doomed..."
Then he immediately shouted, "Search carefully! There should still be some! Search diligently!"
A major case involving more than a dozen deaths occurred in a town, and it has gone undetected for so long. If the town mayor and the police station chief can handle it properly, that's only to be expected. But if they handle it poorly, they will be implicated and made to take the blame.
Moreover, with such a major case occurring in the town, there has already been a serious lapse in public security management, so the police station chief must bear responsibility.
A dozen minutes later, another police officer shouted, "Chief! We've found the second one!"
Two hours later...
Looking at the dozen or so pits dug out containing corpses, the police chief, weary and supporting his back, said, "Go and call the town mayor... then send a report to the county public security bureau."
One of the officers hurriedly returned to the police station and then sent a notification to the county.
Upon hearing that more than a dozen unidentified bodies had been discovered buried in this town, the county government immediately formed an investigation team and rushed down to the scene.
The plainclothes officers investigating the village found Wu Zhendong tied to a tree on the hill behind his house, starving and on the verge of death.
He was taken back to the police station on suspicion of murder.
After conducting an on-site investigation and collecting evidence, the police transported the bodies directly back to the county town.
But all the bodies were intact, with no missing limbs.
Since the torso of the skull couldn't be found, the only way to find out where the rest of the torso was is by asking the killer.
Back at the county public security bureau, all the physical evidence was laid out one by one, and someone had prepared the information about the physical evidence in advance.
The forensic experts then determined the sex and age of the individuals from the skeletal remains and the tattered clothing.
They checked the physical evidence again, and many of the items that could prove the identity were still there.
But after the handover was completed, they discovered that a few people were still missing.
A total of sixteen bodies were unearthed from that rubber plantation, but there were items belonging to twenty people as evidence.
It should be said that three and a half are still missing...
After interrogating Wu Zhendong, the police quickly learned that he had an accomplice.
That's his older sister, Wu Zhenmei.
Wu Zhenmei married into a village next to Dahe Village, which is not far from Dahe Village.
One of them is a stay-at-home dad who doesn't have a proper job, and the other stays home to take care of his parents-in-law and children, but they both need money.
Wu Zhendong doesn't want to work; he's lazy and only knows how to eat and be good at nothing, always dreaming of getting something for nothing.
A few years ago, Wu Zhenmei went to the county town on business and suddenly fainted on the roadside because of her poor health.
Then she was rescued by a kind person who took her home.
This man came to do business and carried a lot of money with him.
When Wu Zhenmei accidentally saw the large amount of cash he was carrying, she immediately had the idea of keeping the money for herself.
So she used the excuse of thanking the other party to keep them there and treated them to a good meal and drinks.
Then they got the other person completely drunk.
The businessman never expected that the person he saved would repay kindness with enmity, so he wasn't very wary.
After being plied with alcohol by Wu Zhenmei and her family, Wu Zhenmei called her younger brother, Wu Zhendong, over.
The two men killed the businessman under cover of darkness when no one was around, and then buried the body in a rubber plantation.
They also took all the businessmen's money.
Having suddenly struck it rich, the siblings seemed to have discovered a way to get rich, so they resorted to their old tricks and went to the county town to swindle people.
They specifically target out-of-towners, pretending to be unwell to get someone to take them home, and then kill them and steal their valuables.
After committing the first murder, the subsequent ones became much easier.
They kill someone once, gain money and ill-gotten gains, and then continue their actions after using the money.
They defraud an average of three to five people each year, and the two have been committing these crimes for five years.
When the police went to Wu Zhenmei's house to arrest her, they found that she was not at home. Besides her elderly parents-in-law, there were also her two sons and two grandsons at home.
When her family saw the police coming to find her, they said she had been missing for three days and they didn't know where she had gone.
The police assumed she had received a tip-off and realized the matter was about to be exposed, so she fled.
However, just as the police were preparing to issue a warrant for her arrest, one morning at the entrance of the Public Security Bureau...
"Wait a minute? What's going on?" Police officer Xiao Fang, who was getting ready for work early in the morning, stopped abruptly as he walked to the entrance of the Public Security Bureau, eating his breakfast. He stared blankly at the utility pole across the street.
A woman was tied to the telephone pole, and a piece of paper was stuck to her chest.
Xiao Fang was stunned for a moment before realizing what was happening: "Who is it?! They actually tied someone up in front of the police station???"
He then looked left and right at both sides of the road, and only after confirming that there were no cars and it was safe did he walk across to the other side.
Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the bound woman had her head down and appeared to be quite old, probably in her forties or fifties.
The note on her chest had three words written on it: "Wu Zhenmei".
Upon seeing the three people, Xiao Fang's eyes widened in surprise. He immediately stopped eating his breakfast and asked, "Wake up! Hey, wake up. Wu Zhenmei? Wu Zhenmei."
After calling her twice without her waking up, he patted her shoulder and said, "Wake up, Wu Zhenmei."
Wu Zhenmei slowly came to her senses, looked up with a bewildered expression, and rolled her eyes blankly.
When she saw Xiao Fang in front of her, she was stunned for a moment before she came to her senses.
"Are you Wu Zhenmei?" Xiao Fang asked, looking at her after she woke up.
Upon hearing this, Wu Zhenmei suddenly snapped out of her daze and vehemently shook her head in denial: "No, no, no, I'm not! I'm not!... What is this? Let me go!"
As she spoke, she suddenly realized that her body was tied up, and she immediately began to struggle in a panic.
Seeing her reaction, Xiao Fang said meaningfully, "It seems you are the one."
Then he stuffed the half-eaten bun into his mouth, untied Wu Zhenmei's rope, and dragged her toward the Public Security Bureau.
While struggling and resisting, Wu Zhenmei said, "I'm not Wu Zhenmei... Why are you pulling me... Let me go... I haven't done anything wrong, why are you dragging me inside? Why don't we go!"
While pulling her along, Xiao Fang chewed the bun in his mouth and then swallowed it.
Then he said, "Whether it's you or not, let's go in and find out first. Don't worry, we won't arrest the wrong person. If you're not, we'll let you go. Don't worry."
"No! I won't go! Let me go!" As the police station gate drew closer, Wu Zhenmei's reaction became increasingly intense.
