Chapter 40 The Director has something to ask of you

Chapter 40 The Director has something to ask of you

"Zhou Yi, let me ask you a question first."

"Director, please feel free to ask."

"Have you met Director Xie of the Municipal Bureau?" Jin Lei asked cautiously.

Zhou Yi shook his head: "To be honest, I haven't had the chance to see him yet."

"Oh, I see." Jin Lei's eyes were suddenly filled with disappointment.

Zhou Yi felt something was amiss. Could it be that he was trying to use his connections? Director Jin wasn't someone like that.

"Director, if there's anything you want me to bring, please tell me. I'll definitely bring it to you when I get a chance to see Director Xie later."

Jin Lei did not answer, but started walking back and forth in the room with his hands behind his back, as if he was having a huge struggle in his heart.

Finally, he stopped and sighed heavily.

Zhou Yi knew that he had already made a decision in his heart.

"I've heard a bit about the case you helped the Municipal Bureau solve. It's said that even the Municipal Party Committee was alarmed. You're considered a major contributor to the Municipal Bureau, so I thought if you talked to Director Xie about it, maybe he'd listen."

"Captain, what's going on?"

Director Jin hesitated for a moment and then said, "I have a friend whose case I'd like to ask Director Xie if he could reinvestigate."

Hearing this, Zhou Yi's heart skipped a beat. He actually needed to rely on connections, and he was immediately disappointed.

"Are there any new clues in your friend's case?" Zhou Yi asked tentatively.

Director Jin shook his head.

"Did he appeal again on his own initiative?"

Director Jin shook his head again and said, "He can't appeal."

Zhou Yi was immediately confused. With no new evidence or clues, and no appeal from the parties involved, how could this case be reinvestigated?

Chief Jin is also an old policeman, it is impossible that he doesn’t understand this.

Then, Jin Lei's next words startled Zhou Yi.

"Because he was shot ten years ago."

"What?"

Jin Lei's next two sentences shocked Zhou Yi more than the last.

"Before he was arrested, he was a police officer, just like you and me."

"Until his death, he kept saying that he was wronged," Jin Lei said angrily.

"Director Jin, why don't you have a drink of water first?" Seeing that he was very emotional and about to cry, Zhou Yi immediately handed him the glass of water that Jin Lei had just poured for him.

Jin Lei took it tremblingly and took a sip.

"Director Jin, your friend, what is this case?"

Jin Lei looked up and asked, "Have you heard about the July 27 shooting incident?"

This sentence made Zhou Yi shudder. He blurted out: "Du Qingming case?"

Jin Lei was also surprised, "You actually know him?"

How could Zhou Yi not know this? Because the policeman Du Qingming who was shot was innocent.

And the person who cleared his name was himself before his rebirth.

But this innocence was twenty years late.

Zhou Yi never imagined that after his rebirth, the course of history would be accelerated by ten years.

On July 27, 1987, a sweltering summer day, a nearby farmer discovered a car in a weed-covered wasteland in Nanming District.

Although private cars were a luxury in the 1990s, at least many wealthy families could afford them and they were common on the roads.

But in the 1980s, cars were definitely toys for the rich, and ordinary people didn't even have the chance to sit in one.

The simple farmer didn't know why the car was parked in such a place, but curiosity made him take a closer look with awe.

It wouldn't matter if he didn't look at it, but once he did, he was almost scared to death.

There were two disheveled dead people in the car, and blood was splattered all over the car.

After receiving the alarm, the Nanming Branch immediately rushed to the scene of the crime to investigate, but the result shocked all the police officers present.

Because they knew the two deceased people in the car.

There was a man and a woman in the car. The man was Wang Hai, deputy director of the Nanming Branch, and the woman was Zheng Xianglan, a civilian police officer in the bureau.

Not only were both men nearly naked, but they were also shot in the chest and died, and the car was full of blood.

Even a fool could see that the two victims were killed while having an affair.

This private car belongs to Wang Hai, and he often drives to the police station.

The most crucial thing is that the Type 77 pistol that Wang Hai carried with him was not found at the scene.

Later, after forensic examination, it was confirmed that the gunshot wounds on the two deceased were caused by the gun that Wang Hai lost.

This was a shocking event. The police on the scene had no idea what to do and could only immediately notify the then director of the Nanming Branch.

Two policemen were killed, one of whom was the deputy chief of the police station. If this incident were to be spread, it would immediately cause great social panic.

The Municipal Bureau immediately took the lead in setting up a special investigation team for the July 27 shooting case, and Xie Guoqiang, the captain of the Third Brigade in charge of serious crimes, was assigned to thoroughly investigate the case.

That was later known as Director Xie.

Back then, Zhou Yi was just a thirteen-year-old kid, and Wu Yongcheng was still working diligently as a police officer in another police station.

The forensic doctor quickly confirmed the time of death of the two victims, which was around nine o'clock the previous evening.

The forensic doctor also extracted a large amount of male body fluids from Zheng Xianglan's body. There was no DNA technology in those days, but it was basically confirmed that it was Wang Hai's.

In other words, the two were shot at close range after having sex and before they had time to put on their clothes.

Losing a gun is a devastating event and a huge threat to the lives and property of ordinary people.

The superiors ordered the task force to solve the case within five days.

Under tremendous pressure, the task force had no time to conduct large-scale investigations.

Therefore, the task force immediately locked on the most suspicious target: Zheng Xianglan’s husband, Du Qingming.

There are three reasons why they believe Du Qingming is a suspect.

First, Du Qingming had sufficient motive to kill. He may have discovered the affair between his wife and Wang Hai a long time ago and killed him in anger on impulse.

Second, Du Qingming is a drug enforcement police officer who has undergone rigorous fighting and shooting training and is fully capable of snatching a gun from Wang Hai, who is also a police officer, and killing people.

Third, Du Qingming did not take any measures regarding his wife Zheng Xianglan’s behavior of not returning home all night yesterday.

Therefore, whether in terms of criminal motive or criminal logic, the suspicion of murder all points to Du Qingming himself.

Although Du Qingming repeatedly emphasized that he was at home with his son sleeping and had no time to commit the crime.

But a sleeping five-year-old can't prove anything.

He did not take any measures to deal with his wife's disappearance. He explained that they had quarreled during the day and he thought his wife had returned to her parents' home.

Such statements not only did not help him prove his innocence, but instead increased his suspicion of committing the crime.

Faced with Du Qingming's refusal to plead guilty and his stubborn resistance, the task force immediately conducted a carpet search of Du Qingming's home, trying to find the most crucial piece of evidence - the Type 77 pistol.

But in the end, nothing was gained.

But what was strange was that just before the deadline given above, Du Qingming actually pleaded guilty.
