Chapter 62 Donghai Community
Zhou Yi and Qiao Jiali, dressed in plain clothes, drove the Santana to the other side of the road at the gate of Donghai Community.
"Sister Qiao, has everything been settled with Officer Miao?" Zhou Yi asked.
Qiao Jiali nodded. "Lao Miao asked me to tell you something. Their director has said they will fully cooperate with Officer Zhou's work."
"Sister Qiao, please stop teasing me. I don't have that much face."
"Really? If you don't believe me, go back and ask him yourself to see if I'm lying."
Qiao Jiali handed over a bottle of water and said, "Actually, you don't have to rush to work today. You were injured on duty anyway. Apply and go home to rest for two days."
"Thank you." Zhou Yi took it and took a sip. "It's just a minor injury, it's okay. Thinking back to the past..."
Zhou Yi was halfway through his words when he immediately realized that he had said the wrong thing and quickly shut up.
"What happened to you back then?"
"Think...Think back then, I was injured in the police academy, but I was back in action the next day."
Qiao Jiali didn't doubt his words at all. She just smiled and said, "It's good to be young. I was like that back then."
Zhou Yi immediately breathed a sigh of relief and secretly reminded himself that he had to be more careful in what he said and did in the future.
"I think you're just worried about this missing person case."
Qiao Jiali was right. Zhou Yi was indeed worried about Zhang Hui's disappearance.
The reason is simple, Xu Jiaguang did not show up on time.
A person who took to the streets holding signs because of the police's "inaction" actually broke the promise made by the city bureau's serious crime squad.
This is so abnormal!
His intuition told him that there was something fishy going on.
That's why he and Qiao Jiali came to Donghai Community now.
"If Zhang Hui was really murdered, then Xu Jiaguang is the biggest suspect." Qiao Jiali certainly knew the problem here.
Zhou Yi nodded. "Sister Qiao, you and I are thinking the same thing. But the tricky part is, if he's alive, I want to see him. If he's dead, I want to see his body."
"Yes, without a body, we can't file a case, and we can't interrogate Xu Jiaguang."
The two got out of the car, Zhou Yi walked towards Donghai Community, and Qiao Jiali walked towards a sanitation truck that was loading and unloading garbage.
In the guard room of the community, a security guard who is over 50 years old was listening to Peking Opera on the radio with his head shaking, and greeting the elderly people coming in and out from time to time.
The security guard just picked up a glass full of wolfberries and was about to drink it when he looked up and saw Zhou Yi outside the window.
"Hey, boy, you gave me a scare."
"What's your name, sir?" Zhou Yi said, casually taking out a cigarette box and handing it over.
The old man took it with a smile and put it on his ear. "My last name is Zhang. What can I do for you, young man?"
"Uncle Zhang, how many years have you worked in this community?"
"Oh, that's a long time ago. When this community was built in 1976, I was here to watch over the construction site. After people moved in, I came here to work as a security guard."
Most residential communities built in the 1960s and 1970s were originally used as dormitories for industrial enterprises. In the early years of economic hardship, many heavy industrial enterprises allocated housing to attract workers. Just like the steel mill dormitories, the Donghai residential complex also served a similar purpose.
"Really? That must be because you did an exceptionally good job and they can't bear to part with you." Zhou Yi praised the other party.
The old man took a sip of the wolfberry water, his face full of an irrepressible smile, but he said, "So-so, so-so."
"I want to ask you about someone. Do you know him?"
"You tell me, there's no one in this neighborhood that I don't know."
"Zhang Hui, do you know her?"
"Of course I know her. Isn't she the one who disappeared last week? Her husband has been... "
The old man suddenly stopped talking and looked at Zhou Yi warily.
"What do you do? Why are you asking this?"
Zhou Yi smiled calmly and said, "It's my fault. I didn't introduce myself. My last name is Zhou, and I work for the Red Sun Food Company."
"Food company? Oh, it's Zhang Hui's company, right?"
"That's right, the grocery store where she worked is owned by our company. She's missing, and the company is worried, so they sent me here to find out what's going on."
The old man gave a thumbs up and said, "Your company is really good, and you have a human touch."
Zhou Yi thought, if this company was really humane, you should have met their people a long time ago.
But since he was there to get some information, he immediately put on a smile.
"Uncle Zhang, when was the last time you saw Zhang Hui?"
"It was the night she disappeared. She bought some groceries and brought her daughter into the complex. I happened to be up and moving around at the time, and she even said hello to me."
"Were you on duty that night?"
The old man pointed to the guard room behind him and said, "It has always been me. I live here."
Zhou Yi took a look inside and saw another room, very small, with a single bed and some daily necessities.
"So what time do you usually close the gate to your community at night?"
“No.”
"What?" Zhou Yi was stunned and asked hurriedly, "Don't you close the door at night?"
"Why close the door? It's so convenient for coming in and out."
Zhou Yi was confused. The community gate was not closed at night and there was no surveillance. That would be troublesome.
The possibility that Zhang Hui had left on her own, or been taken away by someone, increased dramatically. After all, it was difficult to have witnesses in the middle of the night.
“What if a bad guy breaks into the community?”
The old man waved his hand and said, "No, I'm awake when I sleep. I'll definitely hear anyone coming in or out."
Zhou Yi immediately spread his hands and said, come on, this old man is more like a stone lion at the door than a doorman, and his biggest function is to serve as a mascot.
"Uncle, how is the relationship between Zhang Hui and his wife?"
"They have a good relationship and go out together as a couple. But even at their age, they don't know how to avoid suspicion and keep touching each other outside." The old man said with some resentment.
This made Zhou Yi even more confused.
As a bystander, the community security guard could see that the two had a good relationship, so Xu Jiaguang had even less motive to commit the crime.
Could it be that Zhang Hui is really missing?
Zhou Yi asked a few more questions, handed the old man a cigarette, and then left.
After meeting up with Qiao Jiali, the two exchanged information with each other.
"I've asked the sanitation workers, and since Zhang Hui disappeared, no suspicious biological tissue has appeared in the nearby trash cans."
Zhou Yi nodded. This was to rule out the possibility that Zhang Hui was killed at home and dismembered.
To dismember a body, one must necessarily deal with the body.
Dumping the body is the most likely way to deal with it.
Considering that Zhang Hui has a daughter at home, it is unlikely that the body would be disposed of in multiple times over several days. If the body was to be dismembered and disposed of in one night, the distance it was disposed of would definitely not be too far from the crime scene or too complicated.
However, this security guard who doesn't like to close the door has invisibly increased the difficulty of investigation.
Of course, this cannot be blamed on the old man. After all, no one could have imagined that such a thing would happen.
In fact, even after more than 20 years, many places are still like this, without a strong sense of security.
The only difference is that surveillance became more prevalent in cities later on, preventing some incidents from happening.
"Oh, by the way, Sister Qiao, the security guard provided a clue that might be of some value."
