Little Sanctuary
The origin of the Lesser Sacred Realm is unknown, but the chaotic spatial and temporal laws within it are all caused by countless magical beasts.
These magical beasts were not the common monsters found in the cultivation world; each one was enormous. Even when many body cultivators sacrificed their avatars to the heavens, they were not as large as those magical beasts.
The enormous demonic beasts are rampaging through the Lesser Sacred Realm. If their growth is not curbed, they will enter the cultivation world. At that time, low-level cultivators weaker than the demonic beasts and mortals who have not yet cultivated immortality will perish.
For thousands of years, these demonic beasts have seemed endless, and no matter how many cultivators the various sects sent in or how many times they organized encirclements and suppressions, it was all in vain.
Even though many outstanding disciples tried to survive in this small holy realm multiple times, quite a few still died inside.
However, the training in this Lesser Sacred Realm is something that cannot be done in the cultivation world. Therefore, although sects feel sorry for the failure of their outstanding disciples, they will still send their disciples in.
The only pity is that this enormous magical beast has nothing of value about it. The fur of an ordinary magical beast can at least be used to make armor, and its demon core can be used as a cultivation material, just like spirit stones.
These unfamiliar magical beasts were utterly useless. Their sole purpose was slaughter, devouring every cultivator they encountered.
In order to cultivate and protect the cultivation world, the powerful figures of various sects sealed off the Lesser Saint Realm separately, allowing entry only to those from the major sects with their tokens.
Secondly, the spiritual energy in the Lesser Sacred Realm is different from that in the cultivation world. If the spiritual energy in the cultivation world is the foundation of all things, then the spiritual energy in the Five Elements will favor cultivators.
However, within the Lesser Saint Realm, the spiritual energy is chaotic and disordered. To absorb spiritual energy and transform it into one's own spiritual power, one must endure the scouring of violent spiritual energy. Only by repeatedly stimulating the meridians and even the dantian can one finally transform it into one's own spiritual power.
This is why cultivators who return after a long time always make rapid progress. After all, training in such an extraordinary place, even rotten wood can be transformed into steel.
Hearing this, Ruan Qingyu lowered her eyes thoughtfully. Was the origin of these magical beasts truly untraceable? They also needed spiritual energy, but they lacked consciousness and only knew how to kill.
"It does resemble the cultivation methods of demonic cultivators," Ruan Qingyu said calmly. Since this Lesser Sacred Realm has stood for ten thousand years, the cultivation world has clearly found a way to control it.
Although she suddenly learned so much today, she still followed Mo Wen and the others' advice and went in to help kill some magical beasts. If she gained experience, she could then ascend to immortality inside.
Upon hearing this, both Mo Wen and Ci Hang were taken aback; this perspective was indeed novel. However, it was true that demonic cultivators, after absorbing spiritual energy, used more brutal techniques. Meanwhile, demonic beasts and Lesser Saint Realm beings inherently possessed brutal spiritual energy; there were indeed some similarities between the two.
"Once you're inside, you'll have a good training period." As the senior brother, Mo Wen had already mentioned enough things today.
"Thank you, Senior Brother, and thank you, Elder Cihang." Ruan Qingyu bowed and paid her respects to the two of them.
Seeing this, both of them stepped aside to avoid it.
Seeing that Mo Wen was a little reluctant, Cihang said with a smile, "Leave tomorrow, otherwise your senior brother will cry."
The next day, Ruan Qingyu, carrying the Wutong puppet and her storage bracelet, headed towards the place where the Lesser Sacred Realm was opened.
Inside the Xuantian Sect, Mo Wen murmured to himself as he watched her departing figure.
"The trouble for the sect has been resolved, but why has it turned into a trouble for the cultivation world?" He frowned, looking at the Qiankun Gua beside him with a puzzled expression, only to see the Qiankun Gua spin around and run back to his dantian.
The entrance to the Lesser Sacred Realm is located on the Snowfield of the Far Continent. It is said that it was not originally located here, but in order to prevent the escape of magical beasts, the major sects invited cultivators skilled in the Dao of Space to change the entrance to this location.
This snowy plain is deserted and uninhabited; not to mention cultivators, even demonic beasts rarely come here.
She threw the token in her hand into the open snowfield in front of her, and soon an array opened in front of Ruan Qingyu, and a bright and warm light slowly enveloped her.
Sensing the unusual spatial fluctuations, Ruan Qingyu opened her eyes again and finally saw her location.
It was a spacious, empty hall, thankfully not one where she was completely clueless.
In the blink of an eye, a cultivator rushed over, muttering to himself, "It's not time yet, why is someone already here?"
That person's cultivation level was around the early Nascent Soul stage. In other sects, someone like that would be at least an elder. However, he looked young and acted with great energy.
Ruan Qingyu guessed that this must be a disciple on duty within the Lesser Saint Realm?
Sure enough, that person confirmed Ruan Qingyu's guess.
"I am the disciple on duty in the Lesser Saint Realm. All disciples who enter the Lesser Saint Realm must follow me to register their identity information." As he spoke, the other party looked Ruan Qingyu up and down, with a hint of disdain in his expression.
Seeing this, Ruan Qingyu frowned: "I wonder who this is..."
"My name is Li Chang. I heard that one person is missing from the recent batch of disciples who entered the Lesser Saint Realm. It must be you, right?" Li Chang didn't continue to scrutinize Ruan Qingyu as he spoke, but his tone was extremely unpleasant.
Blinking, Ruan Qingyu said calmly, "Fellow Daoist Li, I wonder if we might see Daoist Qingchen of the Xuantian Sect at the place we are going to?"
She didn't care what this person thought of her. But she still had to pay her respects to her master, whom she had been a disciple of for so long.
Not to mention, after she collapsed from exhaustion, Ling Sha and Wen He from the Demon Heaven Sect were about to attack her, and it was her own master who intervened in time. She definitely had to go and thank them.
Unexpectedly, Li Chang raised his voice and said, "What, you're already trying to get yourself out of this place before it's even been a day?" Although this place is indeed tough, many cultivators who can't endure hardship run away early, and he has seen plenty of that, but he has never seen a female cultivator like this before.
He immediately snorted coldly, "I don't know about that. I'm just helping you with the paperwork."
So what if they are from the Xuantian Sect? If the elders of the other sect knew that their disciple was of such character, they would probably still put righteousness before family.
Immediately, both of them fell silent until they arrived at a grand hall.
Although there were quite a few people here, they weren't many either. Everyone present seemed to be in a hurry, and many of the cultivators were injured. However, it was clearly visible that the cultivators here were filled with killing intent, and their fighting spirit enveloped the palace, causing Ruan Qingyu to involuntarily activate a spiritual energy barrier upon entering.
That's how she wasn't affected by the fighting spirit and killing intent. Li Chang glanced at her with some surprise, but only for a moment, thinking that this person's cultivation level should be quite good.
Just thinking about how the other party was trying to avoid entering the Lesser Saint Realm made Li Chang's attitude towards Ruan Qingyu even worse.
"The name that Xuantian Sect is missing," Li Chang said coldly, standing in front of a water mirror.
Unwilling to get entangled with him any further, Ruan Qingyu said in a businesslike manner, "Ruan Qingyu of Xuantian Sect."
The water mirror lit up, and several lines of text quickly appeared. Ruan Qingyu looked up and saw that the water mirror listed her cultivation level, age, the resources she was entitled to, and even the information about the team she was assigned to.
Li Chang looked at her late-stage Nascent Soul cultivation with some surprise, and felt even more displeased. Such cultivation, yet she was still afraid of death; it was truly laughable.
“Newcomers will receive resources for the first three months, and then they will have to hunt monsters to earn contribution points, which they can then exchange for resources at the Contribution Hall.” After a pause, Li Chang added, “After three years, they can leave the Lesser Saint Realm once. If they leave without permission for a hundred years, they will not be allowed to enter again.”
Finally, Ruan Qingyu raised her eyebrows slightly and looked at Li Chang, saying, "Fellow Daoist, you have been speaking ill of me and being very offensive since just now. Did I hit you before?"
Upon hearing this, Li Chang was stunned for a moment, then became furious: "What are you saying? How could I have been hit by you?"
Upon hearing this, Ruan Qingyu also sneered: "Since there is no conflict, why have you been so sarcastic and strange all the way here and even just now?"
She figured she was new here and could just put up with it. But Li Chang's attitude had been consistently terrible from the very beginning. She wasn't a Buddhist or Taoist cultivator, so why would she keep giving in?
As she spoke, Ruan Qingyu released the aura of a late-stage Nascent Soul cultivator. She charged straight at Li Chang, forcing him to immediately retreat several steps, his face paling slightly.
"How could I be sarcastic? You must have made a mistake. You've only just arrived in the Lesser Saint Realm and you're already so arrogant and domineering. It's really unreasonable." Li Chang thought to himself, and secretly exerted force, causing the water mirror to change immediately.
Soon, the previously assigned teams were upgraded from average to even worse. Li Chang gritted his teeth; this woman deserved to suffer, and it would be even better if she died out there.
He hated cultivators who relied on their status, family background, or even their sect more than anything else. Those people were full of superiority when they first arrived, but in the end, they couldn't endure hardship and tried every means to leave.
Seeing the water mirror change into characters, Ruan Qingyu narrowed her eyes slightly, and her gaze towards Li Chang immediately turned murderous.
"Who is making a scene here?"
An aged voice rang out, and Li Chang's eyes lit up immediately, looking as if he had been saved. The moment the other person slowly descended from the air, he bowed respectfully.
"Elder Jin! This person is the missing disciple of the Xuantian Sect. Not only did he arrive late, but he also spoke rudely to me. He is no good person." As Li Chang spoke, a hint of smugness appeared on his face as he looked at Ruan Qingyu.
Elder Jin? Ruan Qingyu felt a chill run down her spine, and then realized something was amiss.
Upon hearing Li Chang's words, Elder Jin's face immediately darkened. The three parts of disgust he felt towards Ruan Qingyu instantly turned into eight parts.
"Hmph, the Lesser Sacred Realm is not a place for you to run wild. It doesn't matter whose disciple you are. Only by surviving and doing your best to kill the demonic beasts can you be considered an excellent disciple." As he spoke, Elder Jin raised his hand and took the already engraved token from a distance.
He casually tossed it towards Ruan Qingyu, saying, "Since you are lacking in virtue, don't waste time. Go and kill some magical beasts, and you will understand the good intentions of your elders."
Elder Jin was a cultivator at the Mahayana stage, and his attacks were as swift as a whirlwind. The spiritual power contained within the token firmly suppressed Ruan Qingyu, and he was thrown towards a certain direction outside the main hall.
Seeing that Elder Jin had so easily given Ruan Qingyu the jewelry, Li Chang immediately showed a smug and triumphant expression.
