Banxia and the others were not at all surprised by what Lu Zhuocheng said about the mastermind behind it all, after all, they had only offended her recently.
but--
"I'm so hungry, let's grab a midnight snack first," Banxia said, taking out a cup of instant noodles from her spatial storage and handing it to Nanxing. "You need to be well-fed to have the energy to work."
Su Yao's eyes lit up when he saw the shrimp in the instant noodle bucket: "Banxia, you actually have seafood ramen? Can I trade you a bucket of braised beef instant noodles for one?"
"Okay, I have plenty more. If you want, I can trade up to ten boxes with you."
"Change to one, no, five boxes!"
"Okay, I'll switch with you after I finish eating."
...
"Coo coo coo!"
Lu Zhuocheng clutched his stomach and gave an awkward smile, then turned to face the wall in silence.
Banxia hesitated for two seconds, then picked out a bucket of her least favorite mushroom and chicken instant noodles and tossed it to him: "Since you're somewhat sensible, you can have this bowl of noodles. Come and pour yourself some hot water."
Lu Zhuocheng swallowed hard and carefully hid the instant noodles in his clothes: "Can I... go back to eat? My wife hasn't eaten properly in a long time."
Banxia and the others couldn't help but feel a little strange. Even the worst families who could afford superpower drugs had some wealth. How could they suddenly be so poor that they couldn't even afford to eat?
Lu Zhuocheng then told them his story without reservation.
Because his explanation was too fragmented, Banxia summarized it for him.
Zhao Zhuocheng's wife was betrayed by her ungrateful relatives during childbirth, nearly losing both her and her unborn child. Their family property was seized, and she was driven out of the house alone.
If his wife hadn't been so shrewd, dividing the supplies into several portions and using three of them to exchange for a special ability potion that allowed him to join the official guard, the family of three would have either starved to death or been killed by their own relatives.
Zhao Zhuocheng wiped away his tears again as he spoke: "Are you planning to seek revenge? The division commander's wife isn't staying at the base. I'll show you the way. Please help me rescue my wife and daughter, okay?"
Who says fools are simple-minded? Zhao Zhuocheng is so cunning he's practically shoving beads off his face.
Su Yao glared at him: "Have you forgotten that you are a prisoner and have no room to bargain with us?"
Zhao Zhuocheng sat down on the ground dejectedly: "The division commander's wife's subordinates all have superpowers, I really can't beat them."
*
Are you sure this is the place?
Banxia looked at Zhao Zhuocheng with some suspicion. The residential buildings not far away were neither new nor old, and didn't seem like the kind of place where the proud and aloof division commander's wife would live.
Zhao Zhuocheng nodded earnestly: "I woke up for a few seconds on the way here and remembered the location perfectly. I will definitely not make a mistake."
"Alright, then you go up and gather some information first. Be careful not to expose yourself this time. Others aren't as soft-hearted as we are and won't let you off the hook."
After Zhao Zhuocheng disappeared into the building, Fang Yunyun asked somewhat uneasily, "Could this Zhao Zhuocheng be a bait that the division commander's wife specially found to lure us in?"
It wasn't that she was overthinking things, but Zhao Zhuocheng was a man who, while seemingly intelligent, would unconsciously act foolish during conversations, yet also cunning and shrewd. It all seemed rather incongruous.
“His IQ is really not high,” Nanxing had carefully observed Zhao Zhuocheng’s every move, “but his family has put a lot of effort into his education, and he can fool people who are not very familiar with him.”
Fang Yunyun suddenly realized: "Now that you put it that way, I understand."
About half an hour later, Zhao Zhuocheng returned to the ship.
He gestured anxiously, saying, "There are several thermal imaging alarms installed at the entrance of the building, and there are also patrol teams. I dare not go up there, or I will be discovered."
Banxia was slightly surprised that the security was so tight. Could there be other secrets inside?
She immediately became interested: "I'll give it a try."
Su Yao asked, "Do you have any good ideas?"
“Ride silver down from the rooftop, or climb out of the window.”
There are at least a hundred households in this building. It's impossible for every window to have an alarm or a superhuman guarding it. She will always find an opportunity.
Nanxing quickly gripped Banxia's hand, afraid she would run away: "I'll go too, I'll keep watch for you."
"Okay, Yao-ge, you guys stay here and hide. If anything happens, I'll use a flashlight to signal you. Once you see the signal, don't worry about anything else, just start the boat and run."
"good!"
The nights during the rainy season are extremely dark, with not a single ray of light in the entire sky. Even if Silver flies freely in the air, it is not easy to be spotted. However, Banxia still makes it fly as high as possible to avoid any unexpected situations.
The two reached the rooftop without any trouble. Banxia put the silver into her spatial storage and then pulled Nanxing to violently break the lock on the emergency exit door.
No one probably expected someone to come down from the roof, so there were no alarm devices or guards in the stairwell, which saved Banxia and her companion a lot of trouble.
"Honey, there's no one on this floor."
"Okay."
They walked down five floors before Nanxing gestured for Banxia to stop: "There are guards in the stairwell, and—"
He frowned deeply, his expression extremely grim. "The three floors below seem to be all laboratories. I 'saw' a lot of instruments and equipment and dozens of two-meter-high transparent petri dishes, which were filled with zombies, humans, and mutated animals."
Banxia was deeply shaken, unable to suppress the memory of that infamous laboratory from her past life that deceived people under the guise of "for the future of all mankind".
There were always rumors in my past life that the laboratory was supported by high-ranking officials. Could it be that they stumbled upon it by accident today?
She held Nanxing's hand: "The lab is dangerous, you must be careful!"
"Hmm, I'll try to see if I can use my superpower to control the person on night duty."
Nanxing closed his eyes and slowly invaded the mind of the night watchman with his mental powers: "You haven't slept for ten days, your body is extremely exhausted, and you need to close your eyes and rest."
"Ah~" one of the night watchmen yawned widely, "I'm so sleepy, I'm going to take a nap."
His colleague grabbed him: "Hey, you're on night duty, how can you sleep? Do you want me to complain? I'm so sleepy~ I'm going to sleep for a while too."
The two slowly lay down on the ground, breathing softly as they slept.
Banxia and Nanxing waited another minute to make sure the two were really asleep before coming downstairs.
Banxia grabbed the two men by the neck and twisted them, then threw the corpses into her spatial dimension.
She asked Nanxing, "Is anyone in the lab?"
Nanxing shook his head: "They might be resting; I haven't seen them yet. But there's a thermal imaging alarm inside, so we'll probably be spotted as soon as we go in."
Banxia thought for a while: "The Ink Vine is not a real plant, so the alarm cannot distinguish it. I will let the Ink Vine crawl inside and store the alarm in my space."
Without hesitation, she opened her arms, and thin vines, as fine as hair, slowly crawled into the house through the crack in the door.
"Alright, let's go."
The two used their supernatural abilities to break the door lock and enter the brightly lit room.
