"Is this price real?"
Fang Yunyun stared blankly at the labels on the shelf, somewhat questioning the meaning of life.
Banxia and the others nodded silently upon hearing this. It had only been half a month since they last came to the supermarket, so how come the prices had increased several times over?
Rice is averaging 50 yuan per jin (500g), vegetables 300 yuan per jin, pork 1500 yuan per jin, seafood 2500 yuan per jin, and even a 550ml bottle of ordinary mineral water is selling for 15 yuan...
Today is February 1st. The purchase limit has been refreshed, and there are many people out shopping, but the supply is still sufficient.
The group didn't dare to linger and quickly selected items from their lists from the shelves.
After filling both shopping carts, Nanxing and Suyao went to check out first, while Banxia and Fang Yunyun took another shopping cart and continued shopping. It was a rare occasion to go out in the cold weather, so they naturally wanted to fill the carts before going home.
As Fang Yunyun took things from the shelf, she chatted with Banxia: "Banxia, I heard that Han Biao's family is planning to sign up to live at the base?"
After the news of the base's completion came out yesterday, several families discussed it in the group chat. Banxia and her two companions, the Su family of three, and Cai Yuan and his two companions decided to stay at home, while Han Biao's family planned to sign up to live at the base.
Banxia put the salt and sugar into the shopping cart and nodded: "Brother Biao's neighborhood isn't very safe. Several families were robbed last month. Their families are old and young, so they're easy targets for bad guys. It's safer to go to the base."
They and their husbands, along with Zhao Xuan, were orphans; Su Yao and Su Xiao lost their parents early, and their grandparents also passed away a few years ago; Fang Yunyun and Cai Yuan had a stepmother and a stepfather, and had long since stopped contacting their families; Han Biao was the only one among them whose parents and relatives were still alive, so naturally he couldn't be as carefree as them.
Fang Yunyun sighed softly: "That's true. Although he can fight, one fist can't fight four hands. It's safer to go to the base. I just don't know if the base is really as good as advertised?"
Banxia recalled her life at the base in her previous life. The first group of people who came to join her all had jobs and income. She casually said, "Brother Biao is good at fighting, and Sister-in-law Biao is a teacher. Together they are both literate and martial, so they can definitely find good jobs. With income, they have a basic guarantee for their lives."
Her only concern for Han Biao was that his parents and in-laws were getting old. If they didn't win the lottery, the family couldn't possibly be separated, could they?
But there was no point in thinking about it. She checked the list in her hand and turned to Fang Yunyun: "Sister Yunyun, let's go buy..." meat.
Before she could finish speaking, a hand patted her shoulder. She instinctively grabbed it and twisted it hard, and the owner of the hand immediately screamed, "Ah! Ban-Banxia..."
Banxia released her grip, frowned, and looked at the woman who had patted her: "Do we know each other?"
The woman, her hand trembling as she gripped the aching flesh, said, "Ban... Banxia, it's me, Huihui. Don't you recognize me?"
Banxia thought back to the name but had absolutely no recollection of it: "I don't know him, stay away from me."
After saying that, she pulled Fang Yunyun toward the meat stall. The woman quickly caught up, her eyes filled with grievance: "I'm also from the Little Sunflower Welfare Home. I used to play with you and Nanxing when we were little. Don't you really remember me?"
Banxia still had no recollection of her. Fang Yunyun carefully examined the woman and then suddenly remembered something: "Isn't this Sun Huihui, the one who used Nanxing to promote their childhood sweetheart relationship?"
Ignoring the embarrassment and resentment in Sun Huihui's eyes, she turned to look at Banxia and said, "She used to impersonate you and claim to be Nanxing's girlfriend quite often."
Banxia stopped in her tracks; now that she heard that, she did vaguely remember it.
Sun Huihui was an orphan from the same welfare home as Nanxing and was three years older than Nanxing. When they were little, she loved to bully the younger children with her gang, stealing their toys and snacks.
She was the youngest and weakest, with no power to resist, and was the child who was bullied the most.
Nanxing fought many times with Sun Huihui's clique because of her, and the two sides became mortal enemies, fighting twice almost every day.
It wasn't until Nanxing earned money from acting that he bought her milk powder and pretty doll dresses and shoes, dressing her up as a little princess that everyone envied.
Sun Huihui and her group then changed their attitude and shamelessly tried to become friends with Nanxing.
Nanxing had always cherished her like a precious treasure since she was a child, so naturally she was unwilling. They didn't say anything to her face, but when Nanxing wasn't around, they would take away her things and bully her even more. Once, in the dead of winter, they locked her in a cold storage room, and she almost lost her life.
It can be said that her timid and shy personality since childhood was related to the bullying she suffered at the hands of Sun Huihui and others.
If Nanxing hadn't worked hard to earn money to send her to a boarding kindergarten, and then to a boarding primary and secondary school, she might have been bullied to death long ago.
After reminiscing, Banxia looked coldly at Sun Huihui: "When you said you were playing with me and Nanxing, did you mean you almost got me killed and fought with Nanxing?"
Sun Huihui looked at Banxia's clear and innocent eyes, a hint of jealousy flashing in her own. Why was this sickly girl always so well protected?
She gave a forced, lighthearted smile: "I was just joking with you. You wouldn't be so petty as to hold a grudge, would you?"
Fang Yunyun scoffed and said sarcastically, "How about we slash you a few times and play around with you? You're so magnanimous, you probably won't take it to heart, right?"
She hates these excuses that are just for fun, but are actually used to bully others!
Her father remarried when she was young, and she was often ridiculed by her peers, facing the threat of being kicked out of the house by her stepmother. She always lived a life of constant caution. After she became famous, those same people started fawning over her, using the exact same excuses as this woman!
Sun Huihui gave an awkward smile: "Banxia, we came from the same orphanage, you don't think that way too, do you?" She muttered to herself as if it were an unintentional remark, "I remember Nanxing saying in an interview that he likes simple and kind girls?"
