After leaving Anning, Yinyi immediately took the gifts to the Xilinjueluo Mansion.
"Master, Madam, the Sixteenth Prince is here! The Sixteenth Prince is here!"
Ebai and Niohuru were together, and they had been trying to find out about Yinyi and Anning through various channels.
However, the two kept a low profile, and since Yin Yi did not live outside the palace and had not officially taken up his post, there was not much information. The two only managed to find out some rumors that they did not know were true or false.
Therefore, both of them were unsure about Yin Yi and An Ning's attitude towards their daughter.
Now that Yin Yi has taken the initiative to come to their door, they can breathe a sigh of relief for the time being. At least Yin Yi seems to be a respectable person, and respectable people care about their reputation. Such a person will at least respect the rules.
Furthermore, although their family background wasn't particularly high, it was still more than enough compared to the Fifth Prince's wife's family.
The two hurried to greet Yin Yi.
"This servant greets the Sixteenth Prince."
Before the two could even bow, Yin Yi quickly helped them up. Since he was going to use their services, he naturally wanted to be polite.
“Lord Ebai, Princess Consort Niohuru, please rise. We are all relatives from now on, so there’s no need to be so polite.”
Seeing Yin Yi's attitude, the two breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that the Sixteenth Prince was not difficult to get along with.
Yin Yi followed the two into the mansion.
Niohuru arranged for someone to prepare lunch. Yinyi followed Ebai into the study, where the two talked for a long time. When they came out again, Ebai's gaze towards Yinyi was less polite and distant, and more admiring and respectful.
When Ortai heard that the Sixteenth Prince had arrived, he hurriedly returned from the yamen. Yinyi chatted with his future brother-in-law for a long time in the study. When they came out again, Ortai looked at Yinyi with more appreciation and admiration.
Well, neither Ebai nor Ortai expected that Yinyi would have such knowledge and insight at such a young age. Neither of them were ordinary people, so they naturally understood Yinyi's abilities.
Ortai was capable, and it wasn't that no prince tried to win him over, but he was used to being cautious and was a master at playing dumb, which is why he hasn't held a high official position over the years.
No one appreciated him. To gain recognition, one had to choose sides. Even if he wanted to be a royalist, he couldn't get to Emperor Kangxi's side. He could only protect himself.
Now that he saw Yinyi, Ortai felt that an opportunity might have come. He hadn't thought Yinyi had a chance to compete for that position before, but after talking with Yinyi, Ortai was no longer sure.
With his knowledge and experience, is Yin Yi really content to be just a prince?
If it were Yin Yi with those thoughts, even Ortai would feel it would be a pity.
He had met several princes, but none of them could give people such a calm and composed feeling as Yin Yi, as if no problem could stump him.
It's a kind of personal charm, a wonderful feeling he'd never experienced from anyone else before.
The father and son, Obai and Ortai, admired him greatly, and Yinyi also admired the father and son quite a bit.
Although Obai's abilities are not as good as his son's, his insight is not a problem. Ortai always speaks incisively and has a sharp point; he is a man who can get things done.
Judging from the character of this father and son, Yin Yi knew that this marriage was a good deal.
Yin Yi was once again impressed by his mother's shrewd judgment; she was truly accurate in judging people.
The wife's family can be an asset or a burden. The Xilin Gioro family is just right. He doesn't need his wife's family to fight for him right now. What he wants is for the future when Kangxi can only pass the position to him.
He intends to use a perfectly legitimate and aboveboard strategy.
After discussing matters of the court, Yin Yi suddenly brought up his residence.
"I've been urging the Ministry of Works to build the mansion recently, so I didn't visit you right away. Please don't misunderstand, Lord Obai and Lord Ortai."
The wives' families of the emperor are different from those of ordinary people; it's okay if they don't come to visit.
Obai: "Sixteenth Prince, you are too kind. The residence should be inspected more carefully, since we will be living here for a long time. It should be renovated to our liking."
The Sixteenth Prince nodded: "Thank you for your understanding, Lord Ebai. I won't be living alone in this mansion from now on. I'll have someone send over a map later, and Princess Xilinjueluo can take a look and make some modifications to the backyard so that I won't be uncomfortable living here later."
Both Obai and Ortai were stunned. Wasn't this being a bit too considerate to their family?
This is the residence of the Emperor, why are they sending their unmarried princesses to take the lead?
Obai: "Isn't this a bit inappropriate? It's not proper to interfere in the Emperor's residence, is it?"
Yin Yi waved his hand: "You don't need to worry too much. Princess Xilinjueluo is the daughter-in-law that Mother values, and she is also the Fujin I personally approved. You can't be too lenient with her. I will have someone send you the map later, so don't be shy."
Obai and Ortai were stunned again, but now they could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Now I finally understand why my daughter (younger sister) became a prince's wife. It seems that I don't need to worry too much about mother-in-law/daughter-in-law issues or marital harmony.
Ebai glanced at Ortai, then said to Yinyi, "Since the Sixteenth Prince is so, we should not stand on ceremony. How about this, my son is quite capable. If the Sixteenth Prince doesn't mind, he can be at your service."
Although their family was low-key, the marriage relationship was already established, and Obai felt there was no need to put on airs. He should just surrender when necessary and be more straightforward to show his sincerity.
Yin Yi laughed: "That's great, I'm the one who benefits. But it's not about giving orders, we can discuss things together."
It wouldn't sound good for a prince like him to order around court officials.
After leaving the study, Ebai asked Ortai to take Yinyi for a stroll around the Xilin Gioro Mansion, as he was old and had difficulty walking and could not accompany him.
