Lu Tu turned and shouted to his own people in the distance, "There is a foreign invasion! Set off the signal fire!"
Upon hearing this, everyone in Huai Shuo was stunned. Lü Tu's words directly labeled them as traitors.
If they previously had a legitimate claim, these words stripped them of their legitimacy.
This area was originally under the jurisdiction of Wuchuan, but now it is even more passive.
The villagers had long disliked the people of Huai Shuo, and at Lü Tu's behest, they lit a signal fire on the spot, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
It was midday, and the smoke signals were enough to travel across most of Wuchuan.
Upon seeing this, Yuan Lang immediately lost his previous imposing manner. He panicked when he realized that Lü Tu was treating him like a Wuhuan person.
If we don't run now, once the armies from all over Wuchuan arrive to our aid, we won't be able to clear our names even if we jump into the Yellow River!
He barely dodged Nie Yun's slashing blade, hastily turned his horse around, and shouted to the crowd, "Retreat! Retreat back to Huai Shuo!"
Nie Yun spurred his horse and caught up with Yuan Lang, slashing at his back with his sword: "Where do you think you're going?"
Seeing this, Lü Tu simply handed Yuan Lang over to Nie Yun to deal with, while he continued to kill in the Huai Shuo army. At this point, these Huai Shuo soldiers were no longer Dayu people in his eyes, but enemies.
Since they dared to help Xu Jing escape, they must bear this humiliation!
Before the Huai Shuo soldiers arrived, Yuan Lang assured them that Lü Tu and the others were no longer capable of fighting and that they were only sent to go through the motions and regain the face they had lost.
Who would have thought that these remnants of the army would still have such fighting power, each one covered in blood, like ghost soldiers crawling out of the underworld.
Especially Lü Tu, who single-handedly charged in and out of Huai Shuo's army seven times, and no one could stop him!
They had never seen Lü Tu truly fight before, and after witnessing it firsthand, how could they dare to challenge him? One by one, they abandoned their armor and fled back the way they came.
Upon seeing this, Yuan Lang spat viciously and cursed, "I haven't even run away yet, and you've already run away? Get back here right now!"
Nie Yun slashed his back with a single blow, tearing his skin open and causing Yuan Lang to gasp in pain. He then swung his sword back, nearly knocking Nie Yun off his horse.
Liu Hong led his men to pursue the deserters, but Lu Tu stopped him, saying, "There's no need to chase after those good-for-nothings. The main character is right here."
All eyes were fixed on Yuan Lang, who had been abandoned by the soldiers. Yuan Lang felt his scalp tingle and the hairs on his body stand on end.
He bared his teeth and braced himself on his horse, shouting to those around him, "You don't actually dare to kill me, do you? I am the Commandant of the Huai Shuo Border Army!"
Lu Tu spat disdainfully and said, "You're a piece of trash! Colluding with the White Lotus Sect bandits and conspiring with the Wuhuan to sell salt and iron, any one of those things would be enough to wipe out your entire family!"
Upon hearing this, Yuan Lang stared at Lü Tu in horror, his lips trembling uncontrollably: "Impossible...you're talking nonsense!"
Judging from his expression, Lü Tu knew he had hit a nerve. He sneered, "Nie Yun, cripple his tendons first, then use him as a sacrifice for the flag!"
"No, I'm willing to pay the ransom. Lord Lü, we've been colleagues, please spare me!"
Nie Yun pounced and pulled him off his horse. Many people rushed forward to help, but Nie Yun shouted at them, "Get out of the way, I'll take care of him myself!"
Everyone knew about the feud between Nie Yun and the Yuan family, and they stood by shouting, "Cripple him!"
Yuan Lang, still reeling from the shock, realized that Nie Yun wanted to fight him one-on-one. Yuan Lang said viciously, "Let's see who cripples whom today!" With that, he pulled a dagger from his boot and stabbed it right in the center of Nie Yun's chest.
"Watch out!" Everyone only felt a flash of cold light before their eyes. Even Lu Tu couldn't draw his bow and nock an arrow in time. He could only watch helplessly as the unsuspecting Nie Yun was stabbed by the dagger.
Despite the critical moment, Nie Yun remained calm and outstretched his arms to block the attack, while his right fist clenched and slammed towards Yuan Lang's liver.
Yuan Lang's dagger pierced right through Nie Yun's left palm, and he himself was knocked unconscious by Nie Yun's liver-bursting punch.
A man stepped forward and pinned Yuan Lang down, but Nie Yun shouted again, "Brothers, I'm fine. Let me deal with this bastard myself!"
As they spoke, everyone looked at Nie Yun, only to see that he had actually managed to pull the dagger that was piercing through his palm out of his hand, his eyes resolute and confident.
He then took Yuan Lang's dagger and stabbed it into Yuan Lang's ankle, forcefully pulling it back from a brief coma.
"Fuck your mother! You actually dared to try and kill me! I'll haunt you even as a ghost!"
Upon hearing this, Nie Yun's hands moved without hesitation, stabbing Yuan Lang in the tendons of his hands and feet. Still not satisfied, he slapped Yuan Lang away with the knife, shouting, "Yuan Lang, your brother insulted me, and now you've insulted me too! I will never forgive you!"
"Ah!!!" Yuan Lang let out a hoarse wail that echoed throughout the wilderness.
Only then did Nie Yun stand up, cut off a section of his outer garment with a dagger, wrap his hand with the cloth strip, and say to the soldiers beside him, "Take him to the drill ground!"
Lu Tu watched all of this quietly. He saw Nie Yun's growth. Nie Yun had broken through his inner demons and overcome the weakness in his character.
Just then, Nie Yun also looked at him. The man, who had just experienced a series of deadly battles, met his gaze in this desolate wilderness.
Lu Tu burst into loud laughter first, followed by Nie Yun, whose laughter grew increasingly boisterous until it affected all the soldiers around them.
At that moment, everyone burst into hearty laughter, and many of them ended up with tears in their eyes.
