Chapter 44 Treasure Land

One of the military slaves scoffed, "I wonder if it's poison."

Upon hearing this, Nie Yun and Liu Yang glared at him angrily, but they knew they couldn't act on his words, lest they damage the prestige that Lü Tu had worked so hard to establish.

They were well aware of the effects of the garlic extract that Lü Tu had refined, so they remained silent and simply captured Chai Yong and the others.

They roughly grabbed some allicin and smeared it on Chai Yong, causing him to grimace in pain, but he dared not make a sound.

The man who had previously scoffed spoke up again: "See? I told you they weren't that kind. They still treat us like cattle. I think they're using the pretext of applying medicine to torture us again."

Upon hearing this, Nie Yun could no longer hold back and questioned, "What's your name? Do you dare to make a bet with me?"

"My name is Niu San. Why wouldn't I dare? What do you want to bet with me on?"

Nie Yun said coldly, "Let's bet on whether this medicine works or not. Do you dare to bet your life?"

Upon hearing this, everyone present was startled. No one expected that Nie Yun would risk his life against someone, especially against them, the military slaves, without a word.

Niu San sneered, "Let's bet! If I lose, I'll die by your blade. If you lose, you'll not only set me free, but you'll also commit suicide!"

Seeing this, Liu Yang tried to pull him away, but Nie Yun shook him off: "Fine! There are so many people here listening. If they're not dead by tomorrow, I'll come and take your dog's life!"

Following Lü Tu's orders, Nie Yun and the others gave medicine to Chai Yong and the others.

As they were leaving, Nie Yun suddenly stopped, turned back to Niu San, and said, "You can't stay here tonight."

Niu San asked with dissatisfaction, "Why?"

"Because I don't want you to get up at night and kill someone!"

Upon hearing this, Niu San's expression changed drastically! He was secretly shocked by Nie Yun's cunning and daring nature, despite his young age.

His original plan was to wait until everyone was asleep tonight, then randomly strangle one of the people who had been whipped, so that he could say he had won the next day and thus gain his freedom.

But now Nie Yun had disrupted his plan, which annoyed him. He said, "You and I have a bet. I can't go with you. What if you kill me?"

Having followed Lü Tu for the past few days, Nie Yun had also picked up a bit of Lü Tu's domineering manner. He sneered on the spot, "You know I have the right to kill you, so why should I reason with you? Take him away!"

Seeing this, the other slave soldiers all tried to dissuade him: "Nie Yun, you were the one who proposed the bet. Even if you win like this, it's not a fair victory!"

Nie Yun nodded: "I can assure you that I will not kill him tonight. I will let him see for himself tomorrow whether Brother Lü's medicine is effective or not!"

Niu San was taken back to his night watchman's quarters by Nie Yun. There were a total of 8 people on night watch tonight, so they should be able to keep him under control.

The next morning, Lü Tu arrived at the training ground and saw Niu San kneeling on the ground, begging for mercy: "Brother Nie, Grandpa Nie, please don't kill me, okay? Just take it as a joke I was playing on you, alright?"

The other slave soldiers shouted, "A bet is a bet! You said you'd gamble your life, so you must die!"

After listening for a few minutes, Lü Tu understood the cause of the matter. Nie Yun stepped forward to explain, and Lü Tu nodded and said, "Do as you wish."

With Lu Tu's permission, Nie Yun had no reservations whatsoever. In front of everyone, he loudly proclaimed, "Everyone heard me make the bet with him yesterday. If Brother Lu's medicine works, then he will die!"

After recovering from a night of fever, Chai Yong and the others deeply realized how powerful Lü Tu's medicine was.

Upon seeing Lü Tu, they knelt down again: "Thank you for the medicine, sir. From now on, our lives belong to you. If the Wuhuan people dare to come again, I, Chai Yong, will risk my worthless life rather than be a coward again!"

Lu Tu scolded, "Wipe away your tears. My soldiers may be badly skilled, but they are all top-notch tough guys. What kind of behavior is this, crying and sobbing?"

The crowd wiped away their tears and stood up. Even though they had been whipped yesterday and their backs were still injured, they tried their best to straighten their backs.

Because to Chai Yong and the others, Lü Tu referred to them as his soldiers. They didn't mind being military slaves; what they minded was being treated like slaves and abused like cattle.

"Yes, sir!"

Lu Tu looked at Niu San: "It's time to fulfill your bet."

Niu San was so frightened that his feet were wading through yellow water. Seeing that Lü Tu and the others had no intention of letting him go, he gritted his teeth and made a decision that went against his ancestors' wishes, saying, "Lord Lü, I have a secret to tell you!"

"Um?"

Lu Tu beckoned to him: "Come here and talk."

Niu San stumbled and crawled to Lu Tu's side, and the stench of urine made Lu Tu frown.

Niu San lowered his voice and said, "Actually, I am not a military slave. I am a servant sent by Zhou Taishan. He sent me here to incite the emotions of the military slaves and make them rebel against you."

Lu Tu looked at him as if he were an idiot: "Are you done talking?"

Niu San continued, "I know that after I said all this, you would want to kill me even more, but Zhou Taishan left in a hurry when he was demoted that day, and I know the secret location where he hid the gold and silver."

Hearing this, Lü Tu smiled knowingly: "You're just a servant, what makes you think you know such an important secret?"

Niu San, indignant, quickly explained: "Actually, I wasn't a servant before. My father was the steward of the Zhou family. A few days ago, I stole Zhou Taishan's concubine. Zhou Taishan found out, but he didn't kill me because of my father. Instead, he demoted me to a military slave."

Lu Tu kicked Niu San in the chest: "Trying to trick me, huh?"

"My lord, I wouldn't dare! There's no benefit in plotting against you. I just want to take you away from Zhou Taishan before he has time to retrieve the hidden gold and silver, in exchange for my life!"

From Lu Tu's heart, he couldn't possibly trust Niu San even a little bit, but Niu San was now facing death, so should he give it a try?

If what Niu San said is true, given that Zhou Taishan had been colluding with the enemy and selling salt and iron for many years, the amount of gold and silver he had hidden would be frighteningly exaggerated!

Now that I have more and more people under me, and expenses are needed everywhere, I am indeed short of money.

After pondering for a moment, Lü Tu finally decided to take a gamble. As long as he brought more people and took all necessary precautions, there shouldn't be any threat.

He looked at Niu San and said, "I can promise you that as long as what you say is true, I will let you go. But if you dare to lie to me, I will make you know what it means to wish you were dead!"

Niu San waved his hands repeatedly: "I dare not deceive you, sir. If I have lied even once, you may kill me at any time!"

Lu Tu said loudly, "Zhao Liang, bring your horse here. Nie Yun, bring your men and come with me!"
