115 Good Starts

115 Good Starts

After staying at home for one night, Zhou Xiaoyan's mother called the next morning. She said that Mayor Zhou was away on a business trip and her elderly father was sick and needed care. She asked Li Wei and her siblings to take Zhou Xiaoyan with them when they went to school, otherwise she was worried about letting Zhou Xiaoyan go alone.

Zhou Xiaoyan arrived soon after, carrying a large bag filled with snacks, meat sauce, salted eggs, and the like. This kind of equipment used to be Li Wei's standard equipment when she went out. Now Li Wei has advanced and only brings books, while Zhou Xiaoyan has degenerated into the kind of baby she used to laugh at Li Wei, so she was a little embarrassed.

Li Wei patted the bag and comforted her, "It's nothing. Food is the most important thing for people. Not being able to eat will delay things. It's normal." The school's communal meals, no matter how good the ingredients are, can't taste good. It is said that the cafeteria at No. 1 High School is very good. Li Wei was curious and ate there once with Ding Anni. As a result, she never wanted to eat there a second time.

Wu Feng and Erpangzi also came to hitch a ride to school. Luckily, Li Lin didn't invite her old friends, otherwise there wouldn't have been enough room.

Even so, it was still quite cramped for six people to squeeze into one car. Luckily, there weren't any particularly large or fat people, otherwise there really wouldn't have been enough room.

Li Wei and Zhou Xiaoyan sat in the front row next to their father. Zhou Xiaoyan was older, and Li Wei felt quite uncomfortable sitting on her lap.

Li Zhaoxing first sent his three children to the newly purchased house, then took the other three to school and settled them in before driving home.

Li Wei returned to her lodgings, changed into her pajamas, smeared some cucumber slices on her face, and leaned against the bed to read. She was now starting to enjoy this simple life of reading; she didn't find doing problems tedious at all. On the contrary, she felt a sense of accomplishment every time she solved a difficult problem. By doing problems and then carefully studying the textbook, repeatedly verifying her understanding, she gained a deeper grasp of the basic knowledge—a process that seemed quite interesting.

Especially sometimes, my confidence inflates. I think about how I could get cosmetic surgery and become a beautiful woman, and also be a top student—wouldn't that be called having both beauty and brains? Just thinking about it is pretty awesome, haha!

So Li Wei tries to do a face mask, hand mask, or foot mask while reading, giving herself positive self-talk as she reads. "I'm a beautiful book-loving woman!"

Li Wei does indeed have a lot of time for reading. After all, many forms of entertainment don't interest her, she has little social interaction, and her spiritual and material needs are basically met, so she can focus on her studies without distractions.

Li Lin, on the other hand, is very enthusiastic about watching TV dramas and collecting celebrity photos. She also collects some strange and unusual trinkets, and she enjoys it immensely.

Li Lianhui, on the other hand, likes to play video games when he has nothing to do. He can sit for one or two hours without moving an inch.

Sometimes Li Wei would come out to get some fresh air or wash her face when she got tired of reading. Seeing the two girls still playing, she'd say a few words or find something to get them moving.

After all, the chances of them spending all their free time reading like she does are slim. It's better to put their activities out in the open. That way, she'll be aware of what's going on and won't be unaware of any problems that might arise during their teenage years.

As for the impact on his studies, Li Wei felt that as long as Li Lianhui didn't go astray and remembered to put in the effort when necessary, it wouldn't be a big problem. As for Li Lin, although she loved to play, she was quite serious when studying. She consistently ranked in the top five in her class throughout junior high. And unlike Li Wei, she didn't study every day. Therefore, she was quite confident.

Although I stumbled in the high school entrance exam, aside from feeling a bit embarrassed, I still felt a strong sense of superiority, a trait cultivated since childhood as a top student.

In short, Li Wei felt that she only needed to keep an eye on them; as long as the two children didn't go astray, they would have no problem getting into university.

Li Wei went to bed early that night. She also put the two younger children to bed, as tomorrow was the first day of formal high school classes. She needed to be full of energy to welcome her new school life, even though it seemed quite tough.

Li Wei did well in the high school entrance exam, ranking second among the new students. The first place was in Class 1 of Grade 11, and similarly, the third place was in Class 3 of Grade 11, which was Ding Anni's class, and so on. However, it is said that the top fifty students were all in Classes 2 and 3 of Grade 11.

Li Wei didn't feel there was anything to be happy about in her grades. After all, she had spent a lot of time and effort on it. If she couldn't even do well in junior high school despite studying so diligently, she would be incredibly stupid.

So when the homeroom teacher, Ms. Cao, asked Li Wei to be the class monitor, she initially wanted to refuse. But then she remembered what her father had said, and realized that she was indeed a bit indifferent to interpersonal relationships. After hesitating for a moment, she agreed. She thought, "I have to serve the people well and try to get along with the masses."

Given that Li Wei got a perfect score in the English exam, and was the only one in the class to achieve a perfect score, Ms. Cao, who taught English, also made Li Wei the English class representative.

When Li Wei came out of the teacher's office, she thought to herself with a self-deprecating smile, "This really is a case of the left hand representing the right hand. I just don't know if I can manage to do both well. I'll just have to try my best."

In fact, she also knew that the most important thing for high school students was to study, and grades mattered. Even if they were class representatives or academic representatives, they wouldn't have much to do on a daily basis.

Unlike what Ding Anni said, their class did not arrange seating according to grades, but rather according to height. The teacher did not set any strict rules for deskmates; everyone could freely form their own pairings.

After military training, the classmates had become fairly familiar with each other. Li Wei sat at the same table as Lin Xiao, who was close to her. In a school like No. 1 High School, where there were significantly more boys than girls, both Lin Xiao and Li Wei were considered relatively short. Lin Xiao was naturally short, while Li Wei was a year or two younger than the average student and hadn't grown as tall.

Lin Xiao was shorter than Li Wei, so Li Wei got a seat in the first row thanks to Lin Xiao. Actually, Li Wei didn't like inhaling chalk dust, watching the teacher's chin, or being exposed to the teacher's saliva, but since the teacher had already arranged it, she couldn't be picky.

Our homeroom teacher, Ms. Cao, is a plump middle-aged man in his forties. He has a very kind smile and is slightly balding. Perhaps because of his background in foreign languages, he is quite open-minded and has a good work ethic. He often consults with students before making decisions and shows them a great deal of respect.

Later, I heard Zhou Xiaoyan and Ding Anni complain that their teachers were very strict and made decisions unilaterally, especially Ding Anni's teacher in Class 3 of Grade 11, who was just as Ding Anni described. Seating arrangements were based on grades.

Ding Anni's grades were average, so she sat in the middle. The students in the same row were arranged from left to right, with the left being considered the most honored position, making it resemble an ancient imperial court. Even more absurdly, after the monthly exam results were released, the seating arrangement was rearranged according to the scores.

This fierce and brutal competition is chilling to even think about, but it does exist and is considered by many teachers as a magic weapon to motivate students to study hard and strive for excellence.

This alone shows how rare and valuable Teacher Cao is.

According to Ding Anni, Teacher Cao is an outstanding teacher in the province for many years and a special-grade teacher in the city. She is very famous. Therefore, Li Wei's class has more than sixty students, which is significantly more than other classes.

They were all freshmen who had just enrolled. Since everyone didn't know each other very well yet, the class atmosphere, while not particularly lively, was harmonious.

Especially the class monitor, Geng Xinyang. He's very lively and knows how to joke around and get everyone excited.

Li Wei really didn't like Geng Xinyang, so she pretended not to know him. It was best to keep her distance from such a refined scoundrel. Geng Xinyang probably also noticed that Li Wei didn't like him, so he didn't come over to acknowledge them as relatives.

Another person who clearly demonstrates competence is the class monitor, a girl named Gao Yue. She has a very generous and cheerful appearance; she's the kind of girl who is approachable and easy to communicate with.

Of course, regardless of their abilities, Geng Xinyang and Gao Yue are both among the top five students in their class, and their strength is beyond doubt.

Another person who impressed Li Wei was the arts committee member. According to tradition, girls with artistic talents are usually quite attractive. Li Wei's class was no exception; their arts committee member, Qin Ling, was a very beautiful girl. Although her figure wasn't clearly visible in the new school uniform, she was quite tall. A beauty is a beauty, even if she seemed a little unapproachable.

Li Wei hated wearing school uniforms the most. They were baggy, slippery, sky-blue fabric made of a chemical blend like acrylic, with a white tracksuit back printed with the pinyin for "High School." She wore them for three years straight, and just thinking about it made her sick of it, but the school made it a strict rule. Apparently, boys got short-sleeved shirts in the summer, and girls got pinafore dresses, but the styles were really disappointing.

As soon as Li Wei received her school uniform, she tucked in the pant legs and sleeves a bit, and although it was still baggy, the length fit perfectly.

Later, Li Wei heard from Ding Anni that freshmen could wear school uniforms for a while longer, while upperclassmen rarely wore them anymore. However, they were required to wear them for the flag-raising ceremony on Mondays.

Sometimes when Li Wei entered the classroom from outside, she would see a room full of students all wearing the same color clothes. At a glance, everyone looked the same, which made Li Wei feel dizzy.

Aside from a few well-known students in the class, Li Wei didn't remember the names of most of her classmates.

Although the homeroom teacher, Ms. Cao, was relatively easy to talk to, she was quite strict about academics. She advocated the slogan "practice makes perfect," and every morning, in addition to leading students in reading English aloud, she also made Li Wei write ten words on one side of the blackboard. There were spot checks during evening self-study, and the amount of homework assigned was actually quite small. Unlike many teachers, she didn't expect students to spend more time on the subjects she taught.

Basically, Li Wei is quite satisfied with her high school life. The teachers are kind, the classmates are harmonious, and there are no difficulties in her studies, at least not so far.

She also discovered that the part-time cook, Aunt Gao, was cooking in a way that suited her and her brother's tastes better and better. Unlike many students who lived in dormitories, she no longer had to eat in the cafeteria every day or run to the convenience store when she was craving something. If she wasn't satisfied, she would be struck by lightning.

However, it seems that very few people are as content as she is.
