121 Relaxation

121 Relaxation

The diagnostic tests conducted by the teachers of various subjects have gradually come to an end. Li Wei's usual hard work has truly paid off. The teachers wanted to help students adapt to the future high school exam format, focusing on assessing their previous foundation, their ability to apply that foundation, and their understanding of basic concepts. Therefore, the questions were not too difficult, covering only the content required by the syllabus in the textbooks, which suited Li Wei's learning approach perfectly.

Therefore, Li Wei achieved the highest score in the class. Except for math and physics, which were a few points short, she got full marks in all other subjects, and her scores in each subject were in an absolutely leading position in the class.

A student's ability is demonstrated by their grades. Although this was just a small, practice-like test, it still reflects their abilities. Moreover, the monthly exam is the day after tomorrow, and even if some students want to work hard, they won't have enough time.

In fact, there are many students in the class who score above 90, and almost 90% of the students have scored above 90 in some subjects, but none of them are as well-rounded as Li Wei.

Li Wei's deskmate, Lin Xiao, is a case in point. Lin Xiao's student number is 26th in the class, which is not bad. She does not have any obvious subject biases, but because she is rather careless, she makes a lot of careless mistakes, so her scores are not very high.

Regardless of what others think, Li Wei doesn't care much. She believes in doing what she can and letting fate decide the outcome. She's done her best, and the result isn't something she can control. Besides, what's the big deal? It's just a test, like a classroom exam, not even the first step in a long journey. She can check her weaknesses, enjoy the good scores, and then move on.

But some people just couldn't stand her. Passing by Li Wei's desk, they saw her casually toss her test paper into her desk and sneered, "Hmph! What's so great about her? If you're so capable, get high scores on monthly exams, midterms, and finals!"

Li Wei glanced up and saw it was Qin Ling again, that nemesis. Arguing with her would be beneath her dignity, and besides, Qin Ling looked like a loser making a declaration of defeat. Li Wei hadn't really paid attention to how Qin Ling had done on the exam.

Actually, Li Wei really wanted to say, "Midterms and finals are nothing, getting a high score on the college entrance exam is what really matters." But Qin Ling's perspective was limited, so there was no need to remind her.

Another person who felt uncomfortable was Gao Yue, but she was clearly much smarter than Qin Ling. She didn't say anything, but simply borrowed Li Wei's perfect score test paper to observe. As for the final result of the observation, only she knew.

These are all petty things girls do; boys don't have that many of those double-dealing tendencies. Especially with girls.

Geng Xinyang and Gong Jianzheng from the sports committee were considered top students among the boys. However, their performance this time was not outstanding. On the contrary, several boys who were not particularly noticeable before were more eye-catching. Li Wei vaguely remembered one of them, a bespectacled, rather quiet boy named Hong Wei, who also got full marks in two subjects, just like her. She couldn't remember the names of the others.

But Li Wei thought. She'd probably soon be able to match the person and the name to the description. They always did odd jobs like collecting and distributing papers, copying grades, handing out homework, and other local chores. It would be hard not to be familiar with them.

During breaks, Ding Anni often came to visit Li Wei. Her junior high classmates were also in Class 2 of the first year of high school, making her feel very comfortable coming and going, as if it were her own class.

Through Ding Anni, Li Wei got to know two girls in her class: Ji Lili and Cai Lianhua. Cai Lianhua was from the Korean ethnic minority and had a very gentle personality. Ji Lili, although quite lively, was also a very easy girl to get along with.

These were girls with completely different personalities from Ding Anni. However, Li Wei could also tell that the two girls seemed to have only a casual relationship with Ding Anni, just ordinary classmates. Moreover, judging from their words and actions, both girls spoke with considerable discretion and behaved in a proper manner. Clearly, they didn't come from as prominent a family as Ding Anni, and therefore lacked that kind of arrogance.

Li Wei had a rather favorable impression of the two of them. She felt that these were normal high school girls. As for Ding Anni and Qin Ling, they were obvious. Even Gao Yue was too calculating.

Students should focus on their studies and get along with their classmates at school. Engaging in so many unhealthy social habits is really boring. Besides, even students who don't do well academically aren't necessarily doomed. The saying "better to underestimate an old man than a poor young man" simply reflects a lack of understanding.

Because she didn't care much about the quiz, Li Wei didn't bother with Ding Anni and Zhou Xiaoyan. Instead, she casually asked Li Lianhui. Although he didn't get a perfect score, his average score was over 90. It seemed he hadn't put all his energy into playing games, so Li Wei was relieved.

As for Li Lin, there was no such quiz at all. The monthly exam was held at the same time as Li Wei and the others. It was said that this exam was conducted uniformly by several good high schools, and the test papers were also uniformly provided, with the aim of assessing the overall quality of this group of students.

Therefore, all schools attach great importance to it, and Li Lin's school, which is known as the third-best high school after No. 1 High School, is no exception.

Li Lin had clearly put in a lot of effort, especially after learning about her sister's test scores, which made her feel even more threatened. She worked on her workbook until midnight for two consecutive days. Li Wei went to bed early and didn't know anything about it.

Time seemed to fly by the more scarce it was, and before we knew it, it was exam time. The school made a very serious arrangement of exam rooms and invigilators. Li Wei's student ID number was 1, which is an odd number, so she stayed in the classroom, while students with even numbers were assigned to other classrooms.

There were five subjects in the exam: math, Chinese, English, physics, and chemistry. The first three subjects were tested on the first day, and the last two subjects were tested on the morning of the second day. There were no lectures during the rest of the time; it was all self-study.

This monthly exam was more difficult than the quizzes of the previous two days, but not too extreme. It was within the students' capabilities and covered various subjects that they hadn't yet learned.

So, on their way home for dinner after finishing their physics and chemistry exams the next day, Ding Anni and Zhou Xiaoyan both condemned the school, asking why they had to test subjects they hadn't learned before—it was utterly unreasonable. For the first time, the two, who usually didn't get along, found common ground and immediately became allies and victims.

Li Wei remained silent. She had only briefly read through her Chinese lessons, focusing mainly on classical Chinese texts and poems. She had spent considerable time on the other subjects, completing two sets of workbooks from the first lesson to the last. Ding Anni was unaware that Zhou Xiaoyan knew, and it was best for her to stay silent for now. Otherwise, she would become the target of both of their frustrations.

Li Wei sighed inwardly, realizing that people shouldn't overestimate their intelligence; on the contrary, sometimes the simplest methods of a seemingly foolish person are the most practical and effective.

But her silence didn't mean the two grumbling girls would ignore her. Finally, Zhou Xiaoyan's grumbling came to an end, and she turned to look at the silent Li Wei beside her: "Huh? I remember now. Li Wei, it seems you've self-studied all of our textbooks this semester, so why are you joining us in this commotion?"

Li Wei —

"Big sister, I didn't even say anything, okay? Which eye of yours saw me complaining? I'm happy! God is so good to me! I'm so happy I can't even speak, I'm so excited!" Li Wei ran into the building with both hands raised; she had to go back for dinner. She had nothing in common with those two complaining women.

Zhou Xiaoyan and Ding Anni

The four of them, including Li Lianhui, ate lunch in silence at the table. Li Wei ignored the two of them and went to her room for a nap. Aunt Gao would wake her up when it was time, so she could sleep peacefully.

Although there's an alarm clock by the bedside, Li Wei generally doesn't like using it. She finds being woken up by the ringing too painful and inhumane. Aunt Gao, on the other hand, starts her alarm fifteen minutes earlier and wakes her every few minutes. This is gentle yet efficient.

Whether it was afternoon school or self-study, Li Wei didn't want to look at her textbooks for the time being. But looking at other books wouldn't be good, since she sat in the first row. Right under the teacher's nose, she finally compromised and took a copy of "Analysis of Classical Chinese Poetry and Prose for High School Students" and a four-color pen from home, planning to draw an illustration in the book while reading during self-study, just like doodling.

Of course, Li Wei had already wrapped the book in kraft paper and even wrote the English word "hehe" on the tree bark.

Li Wei managed to pass the afternoon looking at poems, writings, and drawing pictures. After the teacher assigned homework, she put on her schoolbag and went home.

Li Wei felt she might be suffering from post-exam syndrome; she suddenly didn't want to study anymore, which wouldn't do! She figured it was probably because she hadn't rested well during the holidays, and she'd been quite stressed these past few days, so she was a bit tired. Sleeping wouldn't solve the problem, and she never lacked sleep anyway; she figured she needed to relax and adjust her mindset.

So when Li Wei got home and saw Li Lianhui, the first thing she said was, "Little brother, shall we go see a movie?"

Before Li Lianhui could speak, Li Lin, who had returned first, ran out of the room and said, "Okay, okay, I'll go too!"

Finally, the three siblings took a bus directly to the children's cinema, but they disagreed on what movie to watch. Li Lin wanted to watch a romance film starring Brigitte Lin, while Li Lianhui wanted to watch a martial arts film starring Jet Li, and neither of them was willing to compromise.

Li Wei looked at this and that, really in a dilemma. She was fine with watching anything, but if she had to choose, she would still like to watch a romantic movie with beautiful women. However, Li Lianhui was someone she had brought in to bolster her courage, so of course she couldn't offend him.

Just as Li Wei was in a dilemma, an acquaintance came over and greeted her: "Oh? Li Wei, you're here to watch a movie too?"

Li Wei turned her head and saw that it was Geng Xinyang. There was also a pretty girl with him. She didn't recognize her. She wasn't wearing a school uniform, so she didn't know which school she was from.

Li Wei really didn't like Geng Xinyang, so she nodded reluctantly: "Yeah, you're watching a movie too."

"Oh, which movie do you want to watch? How about we watch it together? It's on me, how about it?" Geng Xinyang was generous and didn't seem to mind Li Wei's coldness.

Li Wei glanced at him, worried that Geng Xinyang might see Li Lin and want to watch the movie with them. That wouldn't do. So she said, "We want to watch a martial arts movie. What about you? Oh, that's my brother, Li Lianhui."

Sure enough, after thinking for a moment, Geng Xinyang said without consulting the girl who came with him, "I also like martial arts movies, so let's watch a martial arts movie together. I'll buy the tickets."

Li Lin, standing to the side, objected: "I want to watch Brigitte Lin's movies, I don't want to watch martial arts films."

Li Wei smiled shyly at Geng Xinyang: "How about... you buy us two tickets to a romance movie, and you and my brother go see an action movie together? You like those kinds of movies too, hehe, sorry about that." You little rascal, I'll let you have your wild imagination.

Geng Xinyang smiled and said nothing. He bought two kinds of tickets, and the two groups entered two different screening rooms.

When it was time to part, he even bought each of Li Wei and her sister a bucket of popcorn and water, and he also carried a bunch of his own. He was quite the go-getter.

Although she knew that Geng Xinyang might have ulterior motives, he still acted quite politely. Li Wei couldn't help but wonder if she had overreacted. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all?

However, no matter what, as long as he doesn't provoke Li Lin, let's just consider him a good person. After all, I didn't personally witness him doing anything bad.

There are a few boys like Luo Da who have done a lot of bad things, and it seems that not many people have a bad opinion of them.
