149. Turning defeat into victory

149. Turning defeat into victory

Finally, the arrival of junior coach Li Hai ended Song Xuejiao's lecture on dressing, makeup, and beauty, rescuing the students who were arriving one after another from her nagging.

Cai Lianhua secretly breathed a sigh of relief on Li Wei's other side and whispered in Li Wei's ear: "If we were like her, wouldn't we end up as pigs?"

Li Wei wanted to laugh but held it back, but thought to herself, "That's a beautiful pig too."

On the contrary, Song Xuejiao regarded Li Wei as a confidante from then on. She felt that among all her classmates, including those in school, Li Wei was the one who understood her best and had the most in common with her. This made Li Wei feel flattered and somewhat confused.

Could it be that in Song Xuejiao's eyes, she was just a pretty face? Well, anyway, even a pretty face has flowers, so she's quite beautiful, isn't she?

As soon as class started today, Coach Li announced that the main focus of today's lesson would be practical application. After learning for so many days, we want everyone to have a real-world experience. Otherwise, if you only learn the theory but also try to figure out how to kick and where to strike when something unexpected happens, you'll just be waiting to get beaten up.

After this period of training, and with Luo Da, her unofficial coach (otherwise, Li Wei always felt it was unfair that Luo Da ate her food), Li Wei has become much bolder. She is no longer afraid of others, and since they have no grudges against each other, no one would resort to underhanded tactics.

If I'm unlucky enough to be paired with my rival, Cousin Zhong, I might just fight her if she dares to do anything to me. I've got protective gear, so I won't die. At worst, it'll just hurt for a bit and then it'll pass. After more than twenty minutes of warm-up and regular physical training, and a short rest, the coaches started pairing us up and preparing us for our turn.

The first two groups of students started putting on protective gear, covering their heads, chests, elbows, knees, forearms, and calves. Especially the helmets; Li Wei couldn't help but think they looked like pilot hats.

The other trainees who weren't going to perform sat down to watch from one side of the area. Li Wei was assigned to the fifth group. Surprisingly, she was paired with Song Xuejiao—

So Li Wei was very relaxed. She dared not speak for others, but Song Xuejiao was just a little girl who loved to slack off and skip classes. She was also weak and lacked any backbone during training. Li Wei estimated that she could defeat her with seven-tenths of her strength.

Li Wei wasn't familiar with the two students in the first group. However, they were both remarkably tall and robust. This made Li Wei think of herself. Was she, in the eyes of their young coach Li Haidi, just someone of Song Xuejiao's weight class?

They had been practicing diligently in class, their moves were all very proper. But then, the two students stood in the middle of the field. At the coach's command, neither moved for a long time. Finally, the junior coach lost his patience and shouted, "Stop thinking about moves! Punches and kicks! Attack where the opponent has protective gear!"

The other students sitting on the ground couldn't help but laugh.

The two students on the field listened, quickly discussed it, and decided to fight. They charged at each other, punching and kicking. Before long, they were tearing at each other, rolling around on the floor. The coach, exasperated, rushed over to separate them: "I told you to kick and punch, not to pull clothes or hair! Can't you even dodge?! Just standing there letting yourself be kicked and punched! All that footwork training you've done has been for nothing!"

The two trainees, panting and flushed, looked at their opponents, then at their coach, thinking to themselves, "Who remembers anything after getting hurt?"

The junior coach yelled, "Play it again!"

These two truly lived up to their status as the coach's first choice as role models; they picked it up quickly, and after a few practice runs, they were finally exchanging blows and kicks without rolling around in a heap.

But what about the techniques? Isn't it supposed to be like what you see on TV, where you have to use techniques?

The time for the two girls in the first group to practice was up, and it was still impossible to tell who was the winner. One of them forced the other into a corner of the field, so she should be considered the winner, right?

Seeing this, Li Wei wanted to laugh, recalling a joke about rural people going to the city and not knowing whether a football match would win or lose. Actually, they were similar; they wouldn't be able to discern the specific winner or loser even when watching a martial arts competition.

After the two students stepped off the field, the coach stood in the middle with their hands behind their backs and addressed them: "Some of you might be wondering why we didn't see them use the moves we've learned. Aren't martial arts movies on TV all about exchanging blows with different moves? Now, let me tell you something. With the half-baked moves you're practicing now, can you even remember them the moment you get hit? The two students who just stepped off the field probably understand. They get angry as soon as they feel pain, and they don't care about anything else. They just fight back, and it's all about who has the strength and whose punches and kicks are more cunning. So, my requirement for you at this stage is that you use what you've learned as soon as you can. If you can't remember something, don't keep thinking about it. If you've already been knocked down and you're still hesitating about what kind of stupid move to use, that's just being an idiot. So, this stage of learning is just to improve your strength and agility. As for applying what you've learned, that's a further requirement for you in the future. As you all saw just now, while trying to hit your opponent, you also need to find ways to protect yourselves. We've been doing agility training for footwork, right? Now's the time to use that. Do you all understand?"

The trainees answered in unison, "Understood."

The student who understands: So it's about figuring out how to hit others without getting hit in return.

The student who didn't understand: ...

Song Xuejiao was the classmate who didn't understand, and she quietly asked Li Wei, "What does that mean? How do you play it?"

Li Wei was one of the more understanding types: "Just hit me however you want, whatever." Then, she glanced warily at Song Xuejiao and added, "No pulling my hair or scratching my face! If you dare scratch me, I'll kill you!"

Hehe, it feels so good to threaten the weak!

Song Xuejiao didn't like hearing that: "I wanted to tell you that too. I'm prettier than you. Don't hit me in the face, or I'll fight you to the death!" Her father said that she would rely on her looks to make a living in the future, and anyone who dared to ruin her livelihood was going against her.

Li Wei took Song Xuejiao's small hand and shook it twice: "Happy to cooperate." Maybe in this peaceful and friendly atmosphere, she and Song Xuejiao could pull off some fancy moves or something like "Rhinoceros Gazing at the Moon" or "Black Tiger Steals the Heart".

The second group consisted of Li Lin and a girl of similar height. Although Li Lin was young, she had always been an athlete and had some talent in sports. She was also a person who never gave up. Li Wei wasn't worried about her getting beaten up; if she got angry, this girl could scratch people.

Sure enough. After Li Lin entered the ring, at the coach's command, she unleashed a barrage of punches and kicks, and then with a flying leap, she actually pinned her opponent to the ground.

Everyone stared in disbelief. This was too incredible! Even laymen from miles around could tell who would win or lose, let alone the women.

Li Wei suppressed a laugh. This was a combination of Li Lin's long-term training with Li Lianhui, akin to Wu Song fighting a tiger. It relied on gaining the upper hand in one fell swoop. If it were Li Lianhui, she would be in trouble next. He would flip her over with a somersault and give her a good beating, then Li Lin would scream for help, someone was bullying the weak and forcibly taking a woman—

For a while, the two of them enjoyed playing this scene repeatedly.

Song Xuejiao commented in a low voice, "Your sister is really amazing. Luckily, I didn't run into her. I could only beat someone like you."

Li Wei>

After being praised by her coach, Li Lin bowed triumphantly and left the field in a victorious manner.

After the third group came the fourth group. This was the group with Cousin Zhong and Cai Lianhua.

Cousin Zhong is quite clever. Probably inspired by Li Lin's dashing style, she deliberately distanced herself from Cai Lianhua. As soon as the coach said "start," she took a few steps and leaped up, intending to unleash a series of Li Lin-style kicks and punches.

"One minute on stage requires ten years of practice off stage." Clearly, she didn't know that Li Lin's move had been tested in real combat, honed through years of training with Li Lianhui, combined with Li Lin's athletic talent. This wasn't something just anyone could immediately imitate.

And so this scene unfolded: on one side, Cai Lianhua stared blankly at her opponent; on the other, Cousin Zhong ran a few steps, jumped up, kicked her arms and legs, and landed less than a step in front of the dazed Cai Lianhua. She lost her balance, tripped, and fell flat on her backside, not getting up for a long time.

This match ended much faster than Li Lin's. Cai Lianhua won without a fight, and was filled with confusion and bewilderment.

Ha ha!

Li Lin laughed loudly first, showing no mercy, and the others couldn't help but follow suit.

Song Xuejiao couldn't help but whisper, "What's going on? Why doesn't it work for her anymore? Li Wei, your sister knows this trick, you know it too, right?" If only Li Wei could be like Zhong Xin, hehe.

Li Wei immediately replied, "Don't worry, I won't. After seeing how my cousin Zhong did it, even if I knew how, I wouldn't use it. If I don't use it well, you'll benefit, haha." She didn't mention that her cousin Zhong went down to recover from her injury. Actually, it wasn't a serious injury. Li Wei estimated that she hadn't jumped very high, maybe only about the height of Luo Da's bed. She herself had fallen once and rubbed it without any problems, let alone her cousin Zhong, who seemed much more mature and thick-skinned than her. At least she had a lot of fat on her buttocks.

The next pair was Li Wei and Song Xuejiao. The two were wearing bulky protective gear and flight caps. They stood facing each other. Just before going on stage, Song Xuejiao whispered in Li Wei's ear, "Don't hit me too hard, okay? Lian is my good friend."

Li Wei: "Don't worry, I'm not excited."

As a result, at the coach's command, Song Xuejiao, that little devil, rushed forward like a locomotive, knocking Li Wei over.

This infuriated Li Wei. "You little brat, I didn't even mean to teach you a lesson, but you've got a screw loose!" She rolled over to Song Xuejiao in one go. There was a trick to it, Luo Daqi's, a non-authentic "lazy donkey roll" specially made for Li Wei.

She stretched out one foot and kicked Song Xuejiao in the back of the knee. Given Song Xuejiao's already obviously unbalanced body, she immediately knelt on the ground. Li Wei quickly got up, straddled Song Xuejiao, and bounced her around a couple of times. "You little brat, I'll teach you to be naughty! You dared to bump into my chest! If you make it too small, I'll disfigure you!"

If Li Lin is a positive example of seizing the initiative and striking first, and Cai Lianhua is a negative example of winning without fighting, then Li Wei is a classic example of turning defeat into victory.

The junior coach praised her and said he would arrange a stronger opponent for Li Wei in the next match.

Li Wei —
