176 Going to school

176 Going to school

When Li Wei and Luo Da returned home, Li Lin and Li Lianhui were already asleep.

Luo Da is leaving tomorrow morning, and Li Wei forced him to go to sleep.

Li Wei herself couldn't sleep. She tossed and turned in bed, afraid of disturbing Li Lin, so she didn't dare to toss and turn too much. She quietly got up and lay down on the sofa in the living room.

Later, I heated up a cup of milk, grabbed a few biscuits, and sat on the sofa, eating and drinking at the same time.

But her mind was on herself and Luo Da. She had a strange feeling, a feeling that everything was settled and the big event was over. She felt very at ease and had no trace of the anxiety she had felt in the past few days.

She couldn't remember how she felt in her previous life; it was a very distant memory, like a dream, and dreams are often very hazy.

But the memories of this life are so clear: Luo Da, Luo Er, Luo San, Fatty, Li Lianhui, Wu Feng, Li Lin... Each of them is so vividly and clearly imprinted in her mind, every frown, every smile, every gesture, indelible...

The next morning, after breakfast, Li Wei handed the large food bag to Luo Da, who was sitting on the sofa digesting his food: "Why don't you find a place to sleep tonight? Driving while fatigued is very dangerous."

Luo Da took the bag and put it aside, then took Li Wei's hand, a soft hope in his eyes: "How about... you come with me?"

Li Wei blinked: "Please, I'm not as smart or capable as you. I'm about to start school, and I have to attend classes. Besides, what would I do there? What would that make of?"

Luo Da also felt it was unrealistic, but he really didn't know when he would be released. He didn't want to leave now, but he had to go whether he wanted to or not; he had chosen this place himself, and no one was forcing him. In the end, he had no choice but to reluctantly compromise: "Then will you give me a ride?"

Li Wei felt like this guy was getting more and more like a child. He wasn't like this when he was little. She rolled her eyes: "Okay. I'll take you to the mall entrance from yesterday. I'm going to buy something."

"That's not called giving a ride. That's called hitchhiking, okay?" Luo Da was dissatisfied.

Li Wei: "Take it or leave it. If I don't want it, I won't go out."

Finally, Luo Da gave in. Li Wei told Li Lin to clear the table and wash the dishes. It was her fault for dawdling and being the last to eat. She put on her coat and went out with Luo Da.

He didn't return until noon, wearing a mask. Once back, he went straight to his room and didn't come out for a long time.

Li Lin was leaning back on the sofa reading her new textbook. She never seemed to concentrate well on this. It was strange to see her like this. Didn't her sister say she went shopping? Why did she come back empty-handed?

She threw down her textbooks and ran to her sister's room, only to find her sister already under the covers. Li Lin rushed over, squeezed onto the bed, and nudged Li Wei, "Sis, sis, why are you sleeping again? What did you buy? Did Brother Hua leave?"

"Okay." Li Wei gave Li Lin a single word.

"Oh dear, sis. What did you buy? Did you buy a necklace or bracelet again?" Usually, when her sister comes back so casually after going out, she usually brings back something fun.

"No." Li Wei gave Li Lin another word.

"Oh, sis, let me see! I promise I won't." So petty, he's just afraid she'll take it and then not give it to him. Humph!

Li Wei was furious at being pushed and shoved around by Li Lin. How could this brat be so annoying? Besides thinking useless things, could she do anything worthwhile?

Li Wei suddenly threw off the covers: "I said no, and that's final! I didn't buy it, did you hear me?!" This is infuriating!

Li Lin fell silent, staring at Li Wei's mouth as if she'd seen a panda. Li Wei then realized her mistake and said irritably, "What are you looking at? What's so interesting? Go read your book!"

After saying that, he lay down again. His lower lip still stings. That damned Luo Da!

It took Li Lin a while to come to her senses. She gently nudged her sister and said, "Sis, I think..."

Li Wei snapped, "Shut up and go read your book!"

In a typical case of being embarrassed and angry, Li Lin wasn't afraid at all. She gently nudged Li Wei and said, "Sis, I think your lower lip looks a bit thicker, like a foreign celebrity. Hmm, yes, very sexy, hehe..."

Li Wei felt that she was finished from now on, at least she had to smear Li Lin's reputation. She bit her lip... Ouch... It really hurt!

It's terrifying to think about. I almost got chewed up and eaten by that guy Luo Da. Luckily, I still had some humanity left, otherwise I would have become a cannibal. Oh well, I'm finally out of here.

For the remaining few days, Li Wei didn't go anywhere except for martial arts classes; she focused on reading and doing exercises at home. The day after Luo Da left, she called Aunt Gao over, freeing herself from housework so she could do what she wanted.

However, he did receive calls from Luo Da every few days. After returning home, he was confined by his master for a month, only allowed to sneak out for a short break each evening to make a phone call. Besides martial arts practice, he also had two hours of reading time each day; his senior brother had already bought him textbooks, and his father had returned home after he left. As for himself, his master said it depended on the situation; he would be released when he met the requirements.

Therefore, there is no set date, and the return date is uncertain.

Li Wei both hoped he would come back soon and didn't really want him to come back too soon. This guy was too ruthless; if he came back, she would be in trouble. But to say that she hoped he would stay in Shajiabang permanently wasn't quite right either. Sometimes she would feel restless and think of him. This feeling was strange, but Li Wei's busy reading and doing a lot of exercises distracted her, and she managed not to be disturbed.

The next day was the start of school, and Zhou Xiaoyan returned home. They had dinner together at Li Wei's house that evening, chattering about the trivial matters of the New Year, how many relatives they visited, how many red envelopes they received, and so on. Li Lin's eyes lit up as she listened, shaking Li Wei's arm as she said, "Hey, sister, sister, why didn't we get as many red envelopes for the New Year? Only Grandpa and Auntie gave me some. Uncle and the others didn't give me any!"

Li Wei glared at her: "Grandpa and Auntie gave you more land than Xiao Yan'er, what more do you want? Don't be too greedy!"

Li Lin stuck out her tongue: "Who would complain about having too much money..."

Actually, it's not Li Lin's fault for saying that; even her mother, Cheng Min, was grumbling to her aunt behind her back. These two brothers are really something. At least they should show some consideration for the children during the New Year, no matter how small. They're just trying to bring good luck, but they're not even as good as Uncle Luo San. Last year, when he came to pay his respects, every child received a red envelope. This year, he's away on a long trip, otherwise, it would have been the same. These brothers are truly disheartening.

These days, the small food workshops run by her two uncles are doing quite well, and each family is doing well, but it's a world apart from the Li family's situation. Li Wei guessed that her uncles might have the mentality that their family was not short of money, so she didn't care about this matter and even advised her mother to let go of her worries.

Anyway, my uncles are doing better, so my grandparents feel at ease. Otherwise, every child is a piece of their mother's flesh and blood, and it would be heartbreaking for them if any of them were having a hard time, making it difficult for them to enjoy their old age. Even if it's just for the sake of the elderly, I hope they can have a better life.

Every family has its own troubles. It's normal for Mom to have some complaints about her brothers, after all, she has done a lot for them growing up.

Zhou Xiaoyan went back to her dormitory after dinner. Li Lin followed her for a stroll. Li Lianhui had been spending all his time at the martial arts gym these past few days. Sometimes he would stay there all day, and after dinner, he would go straight to sleep. He was clearly exhausted. But the next day, he would get up very early and stretch his legs in the living room. This was a complete change from his usual habit of sleeping in late; he seemed like a different person.

Li Lianhui came home a little earlier today. After dinner, he took a shower, went to his room to pack his things for tomorrow, and went to bed early.

When Li Lin returned, only Li Wei was left, wearing pajamas and reading a book on the sofa, waiting for her. "Hurry up and wash up and go to bed. You have school tomorrow, so be energetic." After saying that, she closed her book, yawned, and went back to her bedroom to sleep, not noticing Li Lin's restless eyes glancing at her, clearly preoccupied with something.

The next day, the three siblings went to school early. In high school, there weren't as many fancy activities. According to the schedule from the previous semester, they went to class as usual.

The classmates are the same as last year, and the teachers are the same too. Everything is proceeding as usual. However, it is said that the chemistry teacher has given birth, and they will be getting a new chemistry teacher this semester. I wonder who it will be.

Li Wei thought it was good to change teachers. Otherwise, it was really worrying to see the chemistry teacher with a big belly on and off the stage. Anyway, she planned to study humanities next semester, and after this semester she would say goodbye to chemistry. She didn't care who taught her. She was happy with a score of 60 in this subject and had no psychological burden. Although she had never actually done so.

My deskmate Lin Xiao gained some weight after the New Year, which made her look even cuter. After being cooped up all winter break, she became even more talkative. As soon as get out of class ended, she would chatter non-stop with Li Wei. Even the usually composed Cai Lianhua came over to gossip about what interesting things happened during the New Year, how many red envelopes she received, what new clothes she bought, and which classmates from other classes she saw shopping with whom.

The only thing Li Wei could boast about was going to a lantern festival, which left her looking quite disheveled, so she just listened to the two of them with a smile, occasionally chiming in.

Everything seemed normal, but Li Wei still sensed something unusual about it.

Needless to say, Qin Ling and Gao Yue were watching them from a distance, whispering amongst themselves. Anyway, these two had never gotten along with her, so she didn't care anymore. She secretly looked at her little fists and thought, "Hmm, I can probably handle one, but two...maybe that'll be a bit of a problem."

What made Li Wei feel uneasy was the girls in her class. Normally, there were less than twenty girls in her class, and the number of boys was almost twice that of girls. But today, apart from Li Wei, Lin Xiao, and Cai Lianhua, there was also the duo of bad Qin Ling. The remaining dozen or so girls huddled together as soon as get out of class ended, whispering and gossiping.

It wasn't that Li Wei was overly sensitive; she genuinely noticed several pairs of eyes scanning her as they spoke. To say that it had nothing to do with her would be self-deception.

Although Li Wei hadn't done anything particularly bad, aside from her family, it seemed no one knew about her affair with Luo Da. But even at school, she felt a little guilty; after all, she'd always been a law-abiding citizen.

"A beautiful woman like you, why did you become a thief?" It feels like this is describing her.
