263 Forgotten Opportunities
Wei ran to her father's study, not even bothering to look around. It was the tycoon's study. She jumped onto the big executive chair, picked up the phone from the large desk, and dialed the few numbers she could remember.
The phone rang for a long time but no one answered. After hanging up, she thought for a moment and realized that her aunt had apparently gone to Ding Anni's house. She really didn't remember Ding Anni's house number.
After all that commotion, Li Wei calmed down. She stared at the numbers on the diary in her hand for a long time, feeling a strange sensation. It seemed as if she had unlocked the code to some treasure, and she had obtained the code by accident. She was just waiting to open the door to the treasure. Suddenly, she felt a sense of unreality.
When Li Wei earned money hand in hand, she always felt a joyful sense of accomplishment. Even if, for some reason, it had a touch of prophecy, she knew that she had earned it through her own hard work and never felt any unease about having stolen anything.
Looking at the few numbers she had hastily written down from memory, if she had actually done it and succeeded, the financial reward would have been substantial. But did she really need that much money? Was it the right thing to do?
In her past life, Li Wei had an office colleague who strongly encouraged women to save money on the side. This colleague was knowledgeable and well-versed in various financial management techniques, especially stocks and insurance.
Li Wei had always felt that she had no concept of numbers and was not good at math, so she wasn't interested in it. However, when she learned that the woman had doubled her original funds in a bull market in just one month, everyone in the office started to drool and became enthusiastic about it.
When Li Wei had nothing to do, she thought to herself that she had at least gone to university, and this older woman, who only graduated from junior high school, could trade stocks, so it must not be a very technical skill.
So Li Wei specially bought a few books on stock trading by expert investors and studied them. At first, she was very studious and made tables to study the index trend of the market from the early 1990s.
She soon discovered that this was not a job she could do at all. Looking at the piles of data, she was completely confused. At first, there were fewer numbers, but later the numbers became larger and larger, and there were more and more stocks. Li Wei was completely bewildered.
As for those candlestick charts with positive and negative lines, I've never really understood them, so I've given up on making money from them and just read those books like legendary novels.
When Li Wei kept this diary, she had a vague idea: could she make a fortune from it in the future? But she didn't remember much. She only remembered a few typical ups and downs from those two or three years. Because the numbers at the peaks were very close, and the intervals between the ups and downs were very even, she remembered them when drawing the charts and jotted them down.
I've lived a comfortable life these past few years and have never lacked money. So I'd long forgotten about it.
Now, digging through old things, Li Wei realized that this time was just in time to catch the peak of the first May. It's currently February in the Gregorian calendar, and January in the lunar calendar. The timing is just right.
But after calming down, Li Wei hesitated again. Was what she had done considered opportunistic?
I sat there pondering for a long time. It's better to play it safe.
This is something that needs to be done, but no one else can know, especially not the parents. At this time, for most people, stocks are nothing short of gambling, or even worse. Even if my aunt heard about it, she probably wouldn't support it.
Besides, she really didn't have any good reason to give; to anyone else, it just seemed like she was fooling around.
Li Wei planned to test the waters with her aunt first, since she still needed to raise money from the company.
Thinking that her father should have a phone book or something similar, since he makes phone calls frequently, Li Wei rummaged through the drawer and found a small notebook. She looked up Ding Anni's home phone number in it and called.
It just so happened that her aunt answered the phone. Li Wei originally intended to test her aunt's thoughts, but as soon as the call connected, she felt it was a bit naive. After all, no matter what, if you ask someone's opinion on stocks and then ask for money, even a fool would know what you're going to do. As for waiting until later, she figured that by then, cash would be scarce due to business needs. She should do whatever she could while everyone was still at rest during the Chinese New Year. After the New Year, all sorts of projects would start.
Li Wei thought for a moment and asked, "Auntie, do you have time? I'd like to talk to you, right now."
Her serious tone startled Cheng Fei: "Xiaoming, what's wrong? Are you angry with Luo Jianhua? Did that kid bully you? Tell your aunt what happened?"
Li Wei -_-|||
Helplessly, she explained, "No, Auntie, what are you thinking? He has never bullied me, okay? I just have something important to talk to you about. If you can free yourself, please drive over and pick me up so we can talk alone."
Cheng Fei was simply helping her in-laws entertain the guests. Since there was a housekeeper at home, she was just keeping them company and talking. In reality, just like Li Wei, it wasn't very interesting. After receiving Li Wei's call, she made an excuse and went out.
Li Wei received a call from her aunt in advance. After changing her clothes and leaving the community gate, Cheng Fei arrived in the BMW that Li Wei had bought for her, less than two minutes later.
After getting in the car, the aunt drove a considerable distance before stopping by the roadside. Turning to Li Wei beside her, she asked, "Tell me, what's wrong? Don't be afraid of anything. Your aunt will back you up. No matter what your mother says, she'll still help you. She's still your mother, after all." Cheng Fei had always had some reservations about her sister's plan to seize the company, especially the thought of Li Wei leaving with nothing and pitifully going off with someone else, which made her feel heartbroken.
Although Li Wei doesn't seem to be feeling wronged, and seems to be doing quite well.
The most precious thing is that they grew up together as childhood sweethearts, and now they are in love with each other. Cheng Fei can see that Luo Jianhua is really a good person and cares for her from the bottom of his heart. This is better than anything else. Deep down, she is very envious and hopes that they can live happily ever after.
When Li Wei saw her aunt's posture, she was both touched and amused. Wasn't this the typical image of a mother hen protecting her chicks?
Li Wei rushed over across the gearshift lever, tears streaming down her face before she could even speak. She had intended to act coquettishly, but for some reason, she couldn't control herself, and the tears just kept falling uncontrollably.
Cheng Fei panicked and hurriedly wiped away Li Wei's tears: "What are you saying? What happened? Don't cry, talk to me!"
Li Wei found it amusing, realizing that her tear ducts were perhaps a bit too sensitive. She quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe her tears and calmed herself down before saying, "Auntie, how much cash can you raise for me before the end of February? The more the better. Can you give me a rough estimate?"
Cheng Fei wasn't surprised: "What are you going to do?"
Since she started making hair accessories a few years ago, Li Wei seems to have stopped making a lot of noise. She didn't participate much in buying real estate the year before last either; she was mainly left to manage it and didn't interfere much. Now, all those properties are under Ding Ding's name. Ding Ding is young, but she's already a real little rich woman.
However, Cheng Fei always had a feeling that Li Xiaoming was good at making money since he was a child, and it would be strange if he quieted down when he grew up.
Now, has he started thinking about it again?
Li Wei thought for a moment and asked directly, "Auntie, you know about stocks, right? I want to buy stocks. Don't stop me. Anyway, you know I'm not particularly interested in the company, and you don't want it. Just let me have a go. At worst, we can pretend we never made any money. Anyway, we won't touch the money we gave to Dingding. It's enough for her dowry in the future. You have your uncle to support you, and I'm married. We were both single anyway, so what's there to be afraid of?"
These words made Li Wei feel as if she had Luo Sanjiu's blood flowing through her veins, as if she were Luo Sanjiu's daughter.
It would be more natural for their eldest son, Da Luo, to say something like that. Why did it come out of her mouth today?
Cheng Fei was indeed surprised, looking Li Wei up and down several times: "What's wrong with you today? You were fine this morning, and suddenly you want to gamble? We're not at that point yet, are we? Isn't it good to continue building our business step by step? Is it really necessary to take such a risk?"
Yeah, it can't be that bad. Didn't she fall into that big well and damage her brain? Does she just want to have a fit of madness?
She couldn't bring herself to explain the reason; even she found it absurd.
Li Wei touched her face, wondering how to tell her aunt that it was inconvenient because the money wasn't under her control.
Before Li Wei could find a reason, Cheng Fei remained silent for a long time before saying, "If you insist on buying, I won't stop you, but I won't fully support you either. The company's assets cannot be touched. I'll withdraw all the working capital in the account for you. It's a one-time deal. In the future, don't even think about messing with the company. You can do legitimate things, but don't even think about speculative things like this."
Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't need to worry about her aunt because the company had always had a good reputation and was accommodating to both upstream and downstream clients. With her aunt's skills over the years, there shouldn't be any problems. Besides, only a fool would believe that it was all working capital; it was just a way to put her mind at ease.
This was already quite good, saving a lot of trouble than expected. Li Wei felt relieved, but also a little puzzled: "Auntie, aren't you afraid I'll lose everything?"
Cheng Fei said irritably, "Scared? Of course I'm scared! I'm scared that if I don't give you the money, you'll go and get even more from others, and end up losing even more, more than I can handle. Don't think I don't know your personality. If I say I don't agree, can I stop you?"
Li Wei gave a thumbs up: "Auntie, you really have foresight. Don't worry, I won't lose money. Take more, and I'll make you back dozens of times more within a year. I won't lose money."
Cheng Fei glared at her: "Come on, I'm not counting on that. Three million is all I ask for. If you think it's not enough, don't go borrowing from others. Otherwise, if I find out, I'll strangle you."
And another thing, you're not allowed to touch any of your secret stash of money. The kids will need it when they grow up, so you need to have a backup plan. Don't be so reckless as to jump headfirst into it. Let me tell you, there's a limit to losses and a limit to gains. Don't be greedy, or you'll always suffer. This is the wisdom I've gained over the years, lessons learned from countless losses. Remember this!
Li Wei nodded hurriedly: "I know, I know. Do I look like such a greedy person? I have always regarded money as dirt. Didn't you notice?"
Cheng Fei nonchalantly replied, "Tch, like dirt. Why are you getting so worked up about dirt? Just focus on your university studies, get a good job as a couple, and you'll be carefree for the rest of your lives. Don't think I don't know your petty thoughts. You just want to have money to spend easily. I'm already your only laborer, how can you be so ungrateful!"
Having achieved her goal, Li Wei smiled and stopped arguing with her aunt.
But in my mind, I was calculating that there would be a peak in May, and another one in February of next year, making it exactly one year. These two were the clearest records and the ones I was most confident about. The others were a bit blurry, and the timing was uncertain. I'd make a couple of trades and then leave, trying to make as much money as possible.
