312 deserve a beating
The next day was October 1st, and Li Wei's school was also on holiday.
During class in the morning, Maria told Li Wei with a strange expression that Xu Ting had returned last night and went home this morning, saying that she would come back to see Li Wei after the National Day holiday, and asked Li Wei to tell Li Lianhui.
Li Wei was unhappy to hear this. Was it really that complicated? Couldn't she just make a phone call? Li Lianhui was so busy every day, couldn't she just call and check on him?
What on earth is going on here? It's all so weird.
However, Li Wei didn't say much in front of outsiders, saying she would talk about it when they met after the National Day holiday.
When I got home in the afternoon, there were suddenly three more people in my house.
Li Lin and Ding Anni came, saying they were here to celebrate National Day. Li Lin, in particular, even brought her boyfriend for Li Wei to get a DNA test.
The man's name was Xu Zhixiang. He was tall and thin, with a refined and fair complexion, and quite handsome. He greeted Li Wei politely and seemed to be a good person. According to Li Lin, he was a third-year student at the University of Finance and Economics, but a year older than Li Lin.
Li Wei secretly pulled Li Lin aside and interrogated her: "How long have you been dating? What does his family do? Have you checked his character?"
Li Lin almost rolled her eyes: "Sis, you're even more nagging than my mom. We just started dating this semester. His dad is a doctor and his mom is a teacher. They're reliable people."
Li Wei gave an "oh," and thought, "So he comes from an intellectual family, his background is pretty good." But the boy's gaze was sleazy, especially when he looked at her just now. His eyes inadvertently drifted over her chest, and she wouldn't have noticed if she hadn't turned around at that moment.
He cautioned Li Lin with some unease, "You should investigate thoroughly first. Don't jump to conclusions too soon. Wait a while before making a decision. Be careful and don't suffer any losses."
Li Lin noticed that her sister seemed to have some opinions about her boyfriend, Xu Zhixiang. She said unhappily, "Oh, sister. You don't need to tell me this. I understand this way much better than you do. Back when you were dating, Mom nagged me so much I was sick of it. You weren't home, so you didn't hear it, but I was completely influenced by her. So you have no right to tell me this. Early dating, early marriage, early childbirth..."
"You!" Li Wei was furious. Seriously. A person can't afford to make a single wrong step. Otherwise, they'll never recover. Luckily, her mistake wasn't too drastic.
It wouldn't have mattered if others said it, but Li Lin's words really angered her: "Never mind what I said. You should really observe your friend carefully. I'm doing this for your own good." After saying that, she turned and went into the kitchen to arrange for Aunt Gao to prepare lunch.
Li Lin realized she had spoken too harshly and regretted it. But the words were already out, and her sister had left. She didn't know how to make amends, so she had no choice but to let it go for now.
As for Ding Anni, she went straight to the guest room to sleep as soon as she arrived. She said there was no need to call her for lunch; she'd wait until she'd had a good nap.
During lunch, Li Wei barely paid any attention to Li Lin. Although she disliked Xu Zhixiang, she still had to maintain a polite facade.
Li Lin felt a little embarrassed and thought that she should secretly apologize to her sister later.
After dinner, rooms were arranged for Li Lin and Xu Zhixiang to rest. Li Wei could tell that they seemed to be in a similar situation to Ding Anni; they probably hadn't slept much last night, and she wondered if they had been watching a movie or playing cards.
Seeing that the two had gone to their respective rooms to rest, Li Wei told Aunt Gao and went upstairs as well, planning to read some books and newspapers while waiting to see if Da Luo would call.
I grabbed a newspaper, leaned against the headboard, and hadn't even read a few lines when Shen Tao called.
It's said that Wei Yan had a fight with the head of internal affairs. She accused the internal affairs staff of embezzling company money by buying inferior holiday gifts for everyone. The head of internal affairs objected, and the two went from a minor argument to almost coming to blows.
Li Wei rubbed her temples: "So, the General Manager can't handle this? He's afraid of the most powerful people? The boss has to step in to mediate? Is that what you mean?"
Is this trivial matter even worth him calling? Where did his usual competence go? Is this guy trying to make a fool of her? He's really dreaming!
Thinking of this, Li Wei stopped talking and slammed down the phone. "Hmph! Does Wei Yan really think she's royalty? A mere cashier, yet she's meddling in the internal affairs department. She's really overstepping her bounds."
Want to save the company money? Whether you can actually save money or not, you'd better save yourself the trouble first!
Li Wei didn't bother to ask how Shen Tao handled it. If he couldn't handle this kind of thing, he would be a failure. Besides, she had already told him the whole story, and he knew what to do.
Luo Er and Wei Yan came over for dinner that evening. Luo Er had been following Shen Tao around lately, but no one knew how he was doing. He hadn't come over since, and Li Wei didn't know what was going on either.
Although he had a good relationship with Shen Tao, there were some things he wanted to say that Shen Tao was, after all, an outsider, and he was afraid that saying too much would cause resentment between the uncle and sister-in-law, so he would be careful with his words.
So Li Wei had been wanting to ask Luo Er what he thought, and today she finally got the chance. After dinner, Li Lin, Xu Zhixiang, and Ding Anni went for a walk in the neighborhood.
Li Wei, Luo Er, and Wei Yan sat in the study drinking tea and chatting: "Xiao Er, have you gained anything from Shen Tao lately? Have you seen that huge pile of books he has? Any thoughts?"
Luo Er scratched his head and smiled wryly: "Sister-in-law, I still think I can do better than him. Take his books, for example. I've seen them and flipped through them. To be honest, they're not practical. He would be better off doing more business with that time."
Before Li Wei could speak, Wei Yan interjected, "Sister Xiaoming, it's not that I'm complaining, but I heard that you gave Shen Tao shares. He's an outsider, and his salary is already high enough. Giving him shares is like giving him money for nothing! We're practically relatives, yet we have to listen to him. What are we? Especially this morning, I noticed the blankets and mooncakes weren't very good quality, and they weren't cheap at all. I said a few words, and he actually called me in and gave me a good scolding, while that woman, the internal affairs director, got away scot-free. Isn't he blatantly abusing his power? I said a few words to him, and he kicked me out. I was so angry that I cried. I rarely cry, and if Xiao Er hadn't comforted me, I would have quit long ago. Sister, you have to see clearly that outsiders can't be trusted."
Li Wei asked expressionlessly, "Are you done?"
Wei Yan looked up at Li Wei, unable to discern anything, so she simply blurted out, "And also..."
"Alright, shut up!" Li Wei was truly angry, her heart burning with rage, but her face remained unusually calm. She turned to look at Luo Er: "Do you share her thoughts?"
Luo Er hesitated for a moment, probably realizing he had angered Li Wei, and said somewhat hesitantly, "Wei Yan shouldn't be meddling in other departments' affairs, but I really don't think Shen Tao is very capable."
Li Wei couldn't listen anymore, so she raised her hand and threw the cup at Luo Er. Luo Er instinctively tilted his head and dodged it.
Li Wei pointed at him angrily and said, "You bastard! I should have cut off your little brother when you were a kid. Otherwise, you would have grown up to be a good-for-nothing who was fooled by a money-grubbing woman and lost your brains. What nonsense are you talking about? Have you even run a business before? Think about the lousy businesses you've run. Which one of them was done so easily with just a few words? Have you forgotten the embarrassing experiences you had, running around looking for people, cars, and pulling strings? Your business, which only costs a few dollars, was like this. Think about what kind of businesses are in the company. Do you think it's as easy as eating and drinking? You're really blind. I sent you to train and learn from Chen Tao. Do you think you can do whatever you want just because you're someone's brother or brother-in-law? You think it's easy? That's because you're stupid and didn't see the tricks of the trade. And you still have the nerve to say that? If people hear this, they'll laugh at me for having such a brainless brother-in-law. It's shameful. Get the hell out of here!"
Li Wei was still not satisfied after scolding him, so she picked up apples and pears from the coffee table and threw them at Luo Er. Luo Er was so frightened that he dodged left and right. He had been feeling quite annoyed by Li Wei's scolding, but was he really that bad?
But when he saw Li Wei getting into a full-blown fight, he suddenly felt that the scene was very familiar, so familiar that it felt very intimate. Originally, he wanted to turn around and leave after being scolded, but seeing her dodging left and right like this, he suddenly found it quite funny and was not so angry and annoyed anymore.
So Li Wei later concluded that this was a recipe for disaster; if no one disciplined them for too long, they would become stupid.
At the time, Li Wei was only focused on being angry and didn't think much. When she saw that Luo Er had dodged very nimbly and hadn't hit her with a single piece of fruit, she was furious. She grabbed the fruit knife next to the fruit plate and said viciously, "I'll castrate you first, just to fulfill my childhood dream. I'll make sure you have a wife but no brains. You're just a stupid worm who thinks with your lower body!"
When Wei Yan saw Li Wei pull out a knife, she screamed and ran outside. She accidentally stepped on an apple, tripped and fell, and continued running out, yelling, "Help! Help! Murder!" She was practically tumbling and crawling.
His voice was so loud it sounded like a ghost howling, as if his own mother had died.
Not to mention Li Wei, even Luo Er felt embarrassed and roared, "Stop yelling! What are you yelling for? I'm not dead yet, what are you wailing about!"
Li Wei was just bluffing, and now she burst out laughing. She bent down to pick up an apple, sat down, and slowly peeled it. She glanced at Luo Er and said, "If she's a pig-brain, then you're even worse than a pig. Go back and think it over. If you want to work here, think carefully about how you want to do it before you come. If you both think this place is just for raising parasites, then don't come. The parasites here are extraordinary; they can create value, not just fight amongst themselves. Also, tell your wife not to come. She's a natural troublemaker. With her shrewishness and drive, she's better suited to be her own boss. Working for someone else is a waste of her talent."
Luo Er had been used to being disciplined by Li Wei since he was a child. In the past few years, he hadn't been disciplined, so he was itching for a beating (probably because he was being a jerk). So when Li Wei almost beat him up, he didn't think much of it. Instead, he felt it was natural and thought that Li Wei was really doing it for his own good.
Luo Er put it down, but some people didn't see it that way and spread the news to Zhao Chunyan's ears.
